(817) 545-4031 AMA Gold Leader Club The Greater Southwest Aero Modelers, Inc. is a nonprofit organization. Membership is nondiscriminatory and open to anyone who agrees to abide by Club By-Laws. A condition of membership for insurance purposes is current affiliation with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Our flying field is located at 6903 Randol Mill Road, 1/4 mile east of exit 26 off of Loop 820 at N 32 46.895 W 97 12.361. Visitors are welcome whenever the gate is unlocked. Free flight training instruction is available to members from 6:00 PM to dusk on Monday and Wednesday while Daylight Savings Time is in effect. Regular Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM at the McDonalds Restaurant, 769 Airport Freeway, Hurst TX 76053. The McDonalds is on the south access road just east of Precinct Line Road. The weather didn t go our way, but the donations were plentiful, the fellowship was great and Lee and Dona Rice did a GREAT job on the food! Please do not forget that our Control Line Contingent (CLoC) is having an event on Saturday, November 16 th. They and friends will be out there doing things in a circle!!. Come on out, watch how they do things, see if your interests lean that direction. I know we have some members that would be glad to help you get involved in this part of the hobby. I know I stand in amazement much of the time they are flying. Mostly, I just think I know I couldn t do THAT without crashing Come on out an support CLoC. 2014 Memberships will be available at the November meeting. Come to the meeting and get fixed up for the new year! We are having a program at this month s meeting about SAM, Society of Antique Modelers. We will learn how those competitions occur and what goes into building and flying the models. I think it will be a very interesting program. Come see it! Also, get in your minds what events you wish to have for 2014 and when you would like them. We will be talking events at the January meeting. The annual Christmas party is coming up. If you don t have your tickets, get with Darrel Abby or Lee Rice. I think there are a few remaining. Cost is $15.00 per person for an evening at La Hacienda Ranch in Colleyville. October Secretary s Report Business Meeting Minutes October 8, 2013 Opening: The regular meeting of the Greater Southwest Aero Modelers Inc was called to order at 7:30 P.M. on 10/8/2013 at the McDonalds Restaurant at 450 W. Grapevine Hwy Hurst, TX. By club President Tim Lovett. A. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as distributed. B. Old Business 1. New Members/Visitors: None 2. 2013 Christmas Banquet: This year s Christmas Banquet will again be held at the La Hacienda restaurant, and like last year there are a limited number of banquet tickets available. To purchase your Christmas Banquet tickets be sure to see Tim Lovett, Lee Rice, or Darrell Abby. Get your tickets before it s too late! 3. Food Drive: We are in need of volunteers to help with kitchen duties. If you would like to participate in joining the kitchen crew during the annual food drive event please contact Tim Lovett or Lee Rice. 4. Club Auction: The club auction will be held on 10/19/13 at 10:00 A.M. Table are available (half tables) for selling goods for $10.00 each. Those auctioning off goodies should arrive by 9:00 A.M to register goods to be included in the auction. C. New Business 1. Low Flying Helicopters: Club members have reported low flying helicopters directly over the club flying facilities runway. Please be aware of full scale aircraft at all times when flying, and avoid being anywhere in the vicinity of any full scale aircraft. 2. Winner of the Newsletter Caption Contest: Darrell Abby s caption response to the picture of Lee Rice carrying a trainer plane Lee Rice Practicing with his Top Gun Entry for Next Year won the contest. 3. Leaning Telephone Poles: Chuck Rovell (and others) voiced concerns regarding the Oncor utility poles leaning dangerously towards Randol Mill road near the flying facilities front entry gate. 4. 2014 Club Officer Nominations: There was a discussion regarding club officer nominations for 2014 and a motion was made and approved to retain current club officers through 2014. 5. Field Operations Changes: Runway mowing will be curtailed to a once a week event (on Fridays). Bob McDuff reported that the sprinkler system will not be watering the facility until further notice. D. Model of he Month 1. Model of the Month for October: Model of the Month award was won by Lee Rice with his Great Planes Dirty Birdy 60 powered by an OS 65 AX engine. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M. by Tim Lovett. The next general meeting will be at 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday 11/12/2013 at the McDonalds Restaurant at 450 W. Grapevine Hwy Hurst, TX. The dates for the listed events and possible new events or activities are open for those that are willing to coordinate or CD. Every club member can coordinate 1 or more events. You do not need prior experience as there are plenty of experienced members that will to help you and stand with you during the event. Dates are up to the coordinator subject to club approval. The only two day event we have been having is the Scale Masters Qualifier. Date and day of fun flies is up to the coordinator. Please post your wishes as reply s to this posting and I will modify the list as events are selected and scheduled. Fun fly events have been on Saturday but if someone wishes to schedule an event for Sunday you are welcome to do so. All Scale Fun-Fly It was a warm and muggy day October 12 but turnout was terrific. Twenty registered pilots with 24 very nice scale planes. No static displays as there were 2 to 3 planes in the air most of the time. CD Barry Ponder and office boss Wes Blair kept the drawings moving with many gift certificates given out. Then came the voting for several categories. Here are the winners who received a picture plaque: Best WW I: Max Ficken-- Fokker Tri Plane Best WW II: Ed Couch-- P39 Air Cobra Best Post WW II: Michael Schultz-- L4 Grasshopper Best Civilian: Mike Kopf -- Cessna 182 Best military 20"-- 35": Alvin Leluc --Corsair Pilots Choice: Dr. Royce Lummus --Spitfire Jim Keller and Joel Jerabek cooked burgers, dogs, and brats for another good GSW lunch.
