The Fair provided the visitors with a diverse look at New Jersey history including military reenactors, an old time baseball game, historical figures, period music, and numerous displays of life in centuries past. The museum presented a History on Wheels display with automobiles representing every decade from the 1920s through the 1970s including posters describing life and major events in each. It was also an opportunity to sell tickets on our Mustang raffle car. The AACA also had a display of several Mercers, the logo car for our museum. Unfortunately, the cool damp weather may have hampered attendance, but those that that did attend were treated to a very educational and diverse look at life in New Jersey in years past. Next year's Fair is scheduled for May 14th. The Battlefield Park is a beautiful location. Representing our Museum was John, Ken, Carl, Denny & Ellen, Ray & Ursula Weber, Ralph & Jean, Dave, Bill Cusick, Ray Liss and Ray Patnaude. Thank you Ken Stalgaitus and John Mahoney for selling raffle car ticket. Special thanks goes to Carl Wunschel for trailering the Model T and assorted accoutrements to the fair, John Morsa of the Citizen's Committee made a contribution to us for the fine display we presented. We delivered every car promised and Mr. Morsa requested more involvement with us. Submitted by Denny Derion, Dave DiEugenio, and John Mahoney. Due to an event conflict the August meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 18th. Location: We have just installed a cooling/heating system for the museum to make it more comfortable not only for our meetings but for our visitors as well. Time: A couple of years ago, the monthly trustee board meeting was opened up to the membership at large. This change has been great in that it allows you all to be updated and better informed. This will continue to happen but the trustees will be having closed business meetings every other month to keep discussing and planning forward moving issues. This meeting will have no effect on the regular monthly meeting expect that the trustees will meet an hour before, from 6:30 to 7:30, the regular membership meeting. To keep confusion at a minimum, the membership meetings will now start at 7:30pm. Not only will this help in building momentum but the trustees also believe this allow the regular meetings to be more productive and...who knows even shorter! There are so many car shows and car displays to enjoy. Another fun event that you might be missing out on is Hosting the Museum. Our Hosts tell us exciting stories about the visitors, who come from all over the country, thanks to our website. The Museum may not be the reason they travel hundreds of miles, but it becomes a destination once they are in New Jersey. The Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 12 noon to 4 p.m., except Saturday, which has 2 shifts: 10 am to 1 pm and 1 pm to 4 pm. So we only have 6 Host shifts to fill per week. Sadly, sometimes we have to close the Museum because no one has volunteered for that day. Hosting is easy and enjoyable. Give it a try. Afraid you wouldn t know what to do? Not a problem. We ll let you host with one of our experienced Hosts a few times until you feel ready to do it on your own. You ll feel the pride of sharing our Museum with children, teens, adults, and seniors who love antique cars as much as we do. Please give me a call to get started. Even once or twice a month would help. Ann Stabile, President Phone: 732-255-2232 Email: TheStabiles@comcast.net Ship Bottom Recap The annual Ship Bottom Car Show in July was a crowd pleaser. The day started off cloudy and breezy before the sun came out. It was a perfect day to wander around the bay front park. The well organized event was organized by Ralph Voorhees and Dave DiEugenio. Some of the many volunteers included Mel Van Pelt, Jean Voorhees, Missy Ippolito and Bill Cusick Thank you to all those came out for the event as both volunteers and spectators. Positive Earth Tim O Rouorke and Ray Patnaude attended the July meeting for Positive Earth Drivers Club.** Ray s presentation was outstanding. I think it would be appropriate to say he "nailed it". Listening to Ray talk about the Museum and its partnership with "Shore Dreams" set the tone for his presentation. I sat in attendance last night feeling extremely proud to be a museum member and realized how blessed we are to be in a position to put a smile on the faces of so many people. We are truly fortunate to have people like Ray on the museum s "TEAM" - Submitted by Tim O Rourke. **Positive Earth Drivers Club was founded in 1990 by a small group of British car owners and drivers to enjoy British automobiles through the quest of finding, restoring, collecting and most importantly driving our cars. Their club is made up of men and women with a common love of the road. Check out their website (http://pedc.org/) for more information on their club and their upcoming car show on Saturday September 19th, Brits on the Beach. Radio Interview On June 27th, Ray Patnaude did a one hour radio interview on Americas Web Radio.com. The interview has been posted so if you wish to hear it, you can listen on Americaswebradio.com. In the interview I gave a little plug in for the Museum of Boating and the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club. The one interviewer was very interested in Auto Racing so there was conversation abut racing in NJ. It is good that the web has been updated, because a lot of the questions came from it. Page 5 732-899-0012 www.vintageautomuseum.org vammembership@gmail.com Museum s Fleet & Warehouse You may already be aware that VAM has a warehouse and rents it out for car storage in Whiting; which is usually always full and the guys have a smooth operation over there. But, did you know that we also have a warehouse of cars owned by us and that are for sale? We have vehicles donated to us for various reasons; some we do keep and others we sell. This is something done more on the side as we don t have a designated person to expand this aspect of the museum; plus not to mention the automobilia and another items that get donated to us. Even though this is a side project, we usually sell a car or two a year. This year, we have already sold 3 cars! 1947 Cadillac. Gentleman who bought the car also donated several trophies and other items to the Museum. Sold by Steve Zboyan, Curator 1967 Dodge Coronet. Sold by Dave DiEugenio, Executive Director 1974 Chrysler Newport. Sold by Dave DiEugenio So if you re looking for a classic car, come see what we have in the fleet; here are just a few pictures we even have a fire truck!! If our side project has peeked your interest and you would like to see this become a more active revenue stream for the Museum then YES! Please! We would love your help!! Speaker s Bureau on the educational front: History on Wheels Central Regional Middle School 8 am to 1pm. TBD Scheduled for end of September or the beginning of October. What is HOW Initially working with the Humanities Department at Southern Regional High School, History On Wheels brings samples of automobiles from each decade from the teens through the 1970 s. As small groups move through the historical timeline, representing seven decades, the owners take 5-8 minutes explaining how the automotive industry impacted society and government at that time. The owners also talk about their specific automobile, which provides a very tangible exhibit of how automotive technology progressed over the years. As the small groups conclude the presentation of each decade, they move on to the next. Even though this educational display is created for schools, it can be modified to your own event. This May, we participated in the NJ State Historical Fair in which they asked us to not only have a small display for viewing but also to showcase how the automotive effected history. That s what we do! So...keep us in mind as you are planning events and activities for your clubs, organizations, scouting programs and such. There is no charge for this program, but we appreciate having some coffee and donuts or bagels etc. when we arrive and set up and some lunch/dinner; depending on the time of your event. If you are interested in availing your students/group of this opportunity, please contact the undersigned to arrange a date. We suggest sometime in the late spring or early fall when the weather is nice and that a rain date also be considered. A shout out from a guest about the museum in the Old Cars Weekly edition of April 23, 2015. "After reading about the Vintage Automobile Museum of New Jersey most recently in the March 5, 2015 issue of Old Cars Weekly, a group of us visited the museum in Point Pleasant on March 24. We had arranged the visit a week ahead of time and Dave DiEugenio, the director, welcomed us warmly. We received a full tour of the facilities for over an hour. Of particular note, it has a sign on the wall showing the 52-inch water line from hurricane Sandy. The museum has since recovered from the flood and very little damage remains. Other visitors should know the museum is actually located on Meadow Ave, a side road. The 1800 Bay Avenue address is its office for mailing purposes and a sign clearly points visitors to the correct building. When we were there, the theme in the museum was mostly race cars, which were very photogenic. We had a great time." -- Edward L., Jessup, Maryland Edward, we are glad you had a great time at the museum and are telling all your friends about us! Thank you to all our knowledgeable and friendly hosts! We wouldn t have glowing reviews without you! Hello Museum Friends! Welcome New Life Member To All, Even after 6 years in Massachusetts we still miss everyone in the VACOC and the VAMNJ. After 28 years of owning our 1960 De Soto we sold our car to an individual in Australia. It was picked up in December 17, 2014 and finally reached the buyer in March 22, 2015. It missed the first boat because they did not realize that the car is 19 feet long and did not have a container to put it in. The buyer is very happy with the car and for the members who have never seen it, it was the result of an 11 year restoration. Anyone who has worked on that car remarked that it is a museum quality vehicle. We miss our De Soto child (lucky) which was a Trophy winner at the National Desoto Club (NDC) and local shows, but it was time to let it go to someone who would appreciate it and use it as much as we used to. Best regards to all. Sincerely, Ralph and MaryAnn Simon (Ralph & Mary Ann Simon are life members. They were active within both VAC and VAM until they moved to Massachusetts to be near their daughter and granddaughters. Thank you for keeping in touch with us!)
Page 8 Points of Interest... Taking VAM to Arnold Avenue in Pt. Pleasant! For a week in June, we had a window display at the Pt Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce! Thank you to Stanley Serzan for helping set it up and John Mahoney for the Esso items, and Ray P. for the extra signs. This is a perk for being a chamber member. Another perk is that we can do a display on the Jenkinson Boardwalk we can t have cars up there but we can do anything else who s with me! Who wants to promote the Museum on the beach.!?! Our sponsor Brookdale Assisted Living, formally Emeritis Assisted Living, is honoring National Assisted Living Week (Sept. 6 to 11) on Tuesday Sept. 8 from 4 to 6 PM. They have asked if we can please come with a car display. Please check your calendars and let us know if you will be coming out. Thanks, Dave DiEugenio SAVE the DATE Oct 10th for the Columbus Day Festival in Spring Lake. We have been invited to come and have an American Vintage display to go with the cars provided by the Italian Car club. Please let us know if you are interested so we can have enough space is available for everyone. We have been invited to attend the Ocean Breeze Car Show in Manahawkin on 10/24/15. They asked for as many cars as we can for a display. Their rep, Mary Beth said a sponsorship is possible or at least a donation and our raffle car is welcome. They have invited three others clubs and expects over 100 cars. So mark your calendar to attend this event and have a good showing of the Museum. - Submitted by Gary Stabile (Please contact us if you are interested in attending) The Vintage Automobile was treated royally at the Englishtown Raceway Park. We may be able to attend the other weekend events there this year. Thank You. - Submitted by Ralph Voorhees. Jersey Late Greats come out on June 13th. They enjoyed a day cruising with 12 cars and about 25 people. A good day was had by all. On June 26th, we had 12 visitors with many compliments on our display. We sold several raffle car tickets and having the raffle car at the Museum really makes a different with onsite sales. - Submitted by Dave DiEugenio On June 30th, we were invited to Emeritis Assisted Living for their Grand Reopening in the new name of Brookdale A L. Ken, Stosh & I represented VAMNJ and received a warm greeting. The ribbon cutting ceremony was very nice and the party enjoyable. They asked to renew their sponsorship under their new name. We networked with Stafford Mayor John Spodofora (He loves antique cars); Stafford Council Woman McKenna; Congressman MacArthur's representative; Lori Papinella, Director of LBI Chamber of Commerce; and the Brookdale Administration. It was a very good night. - Submitted by Dave DiEugenio In May...did you notice a little PINK decor...paint the Town Pink is an annual community-wide effort organized by Meridian Health to raise awareness of the importance of annual mammography and this year we joined their mission. Paint the Town Pink merges a breast cancer prevention, detection and treatment campaign with a fundraising component that raises funds to provide screening mammography to underserved women in our community.
