Gold Coast and Hamburg Historic District Association Membership Meeting 2:00 p.m Sunday, May 18, 2008, Terrie Tuck s home, 703 Ripley Street In attendance: Monica LaRoque, Allan Hayes, Danielle Stone, Charlie Stone, Kira Stone, John Dodd, Marion Meginnis, Jack Haberman, Steve Bartholomew, Sara Bartholomew, Duane Timm, Jeff Gomez, Bruce Rosso, Marcia Canfield, Sara Ryan, PJ Slobojan, Terrie Tuck, Gerald Talandis, Richard (a friend of the neighborhood) 2:00- Snacks and visit with neighbors We began the meeting with the Secretary minutes. Minutes were provided over e-mail and at the meeting. Marion motioned that we approve the minutes and Jeff seconded it. Minutes were approved. Danielle S. passed out the budget and it was open for discussion. There were concerns about a possible deficit. There will not be a deficit if we make the estimated money on our final fundraisers. The High Tea netted around $1,000 dollars. They would like to plan another for Christmas. Jeff G. Made a motion to approve the minutes and Duane T. seconded the motion. Motion carried and passed. We took a vote on two open positions. Danielle Stone allowed her name to stand for the treasurer position. It was asked for other nominations, none were given. Marcia C. made a motion to vote and Jeff G was the second. It was voted upon and approved. Marcia Canfield allowed her name to stand for the At Large position and it was asked for other nominees, none were given. Jeff G. motioned that a vote be taken. Bruce R seconded it and approved it. It was voted on and approved. We had a guest speaker and listened to a police officer give a presentation on home safety. There was discussion on the copper thefts happening in the neighborhood. Different security systems were discussed along with lights/motion detectors. Having a dog is helpful a long with good locks on the house. He had handouts and listened to the neighbors concerns. John Dodd talked about the welcoming committee and that there were 42 members at this time and that he was working on updates. Danielle talked about working on the website and figuring out a system for emailing. Marion M. talked about 100 Homes program. She talked about having an open house for all the homes for sale in the area and tying it to a neighborhood garage sale. Jeff G. talked about the beautification committee and that they got a lawn person and if he doesn t work out that he and Duane would take care of it. $100 would be reimbursed to them for gas. Clean Sweep was successful. We cleaned up the alleys and lots of bulky waste. Everything is lined up for the wall. The Grunt and Grub is May 31, 2008 and is tied with a cookout. PJ talked about the beautification efforts on Gaines and is asking for business/home owners for help. High Tea There was an informational sheet passed around. Talked about it netting $1000 and that people loved it! It puts a great foot forward in the neighborhood. They would like to have a Christmas Tea. Home Tour- All the houses are lined up for this tour. Sara B will be handling the money and Marion will be working on the history. They are checking into the Trolley and looking at getting it sponsored. PJ brought a motion before the board to buy a pedestal. People discussed concerns about the budget and how if we are in a deficit that we should not spend the money. The pedestal is $200. People were in favor of getting the pedestal at the good price of $200 but waiting to do the installation of it and engraving until we had the money to do so. Jeff made a motion to buy the pedestal for $200 and Jack seconded it. The motion carried and passed. The meeting was adjourned.

Gold Coast and Hamburg Historic District Association Membership Minutes August 23, 2008 at Craig & Marcia Canfield s home, 723 Brown Street. Members in attendance: Monica LaRoque, Allan Hayes, Marion Meginnis, Jack Haberman, Steve Bartholomew, Sara Bartholomew, Duane Timm, Jeff Gomez,, Marcia and Craig Canfield, PJ Slobojan, Gerald Talandis, Dave Cordes, Bryan Pattschull, Meeting was called to order. We began the meeting with the Secretary minutes. Minutes were provided over e-mail and at the meeting. PJ moved to approve the minutes and Steve Bartholomew seconded that motion was carried and passed. Danielle Stone provided the president with a copy of the financial report. Discussion was held on getting a quarterly by the month deposit/withdrawal it was requested by PJ. The motion was on the floor to approve the minutes PJ was first and Jeff seconded. The motion carried and passed. Board made the statement of how nice it was to have people volunteering and helping to make the Gold Coast better. Grunt and Grub recapped their event. The gazebo got stained and 6-8 people showed up to help and then have a cookout. Ice Cream social- Went very well. Good job was given to all those who helped at the event. There were lots of kids, great ice cream, water balloons, and fun. Special thanks to Tanise and Dennis for organizing the event. PJ talked about 35 people from St Ambrose came to help beautify our neighborhood. Everyone had a good time and the park, Overview, Gaines and Western cleaned up. The Tour is in need of volunteers for the homes and a plea was made. Next week Alma Gaul will do a photo shoot. WQPT filmed Hahn, Overview, and 822 Gaines for a show on historic homes. Ads sales are great so far $1,485. They are working on an insert for homes that are for sale ($20 per ad). Friendly House is providing us a van so we will have bus stops at each of the homes. There was discussion on telling people what the money raised is used for. People decided to use a broad statement on tour brochure. It was decided to say it was for beautification/special projects/running the neighborhood. The motion to approve the tour budget was carried and passed. The progressive dinner was talked about it was not kid friendly. The question arose about babysitting? The 1 st weekend of December was the projected date. There are already some houses lined up for this. Pedestal Committee: PJ got grant money for $425 of 500 for the project. She brought in the sheet that they are thinking about putting in the Pedestal. She discussed what would be happening in the committee. It would be a permanent fixture on the Western steps. It would identify the different styles of homes in the neighborhood and have a box for the walking brochures. Comments made were to make sure the map is in the correct position. PJ, Sara B, Marion M will look into the walking brochure/getting higher priced ads, etc. There was motion to budget $150 for the printing of new walking brochures. Jeff was first and Sara seconded it the motion was carried and passed. 11/8/08 GC&HHDA Meeting In Attendance was: Marion Meginnis, Steve and Sara Bartholomew, Webster Mayes, Dennis LaRoque, Craig and Marcia Canfield, Mike Schroeder, Charlie Stone, Cynthia and Chris Taylor, Sara Ryan, Walter Kurth, Bill Boom, Danielle Stone, Jeff Gomez, Jack Haberman, Allan Hayes, Dennis LaRoque, and Monica LaRoque. The meeting started with introductions. Mike Schroeder started with nominations. The board talked about possible re-staggering the positions; however it was decided they were okay. The slate was presented and was elected Jack Haberman made the motion to approve the board nominees Bill Boom seconded it. The New Board was approved. The Jipp Center wants to host historic records of the homes at the Gold Coast. The name suggested for it was Hamburg Historic Research Center. Jack Haberman made the motion and Danielle Stone seconded. Discussion was had regarding the check out policy getting more defined. The motion was made by Steve Bartholomew to move that the board figure out the checkout policy and bring it to the membership. Discussion was also made about virtually checking out the history on the homes as an option. Motion was voted on Steve made the motion to approve and Danielle Stone seconded it. It carried and was passed along with Steve s motion which was all carried and passed. The progressive dinner was discussed and the plea for volunteers was made. The Tour update was given and we had $7100 in profit from the tour and ad sales. It was a great year. The helpers/homeowners were thanked. It was discussed as having a tour in 2009 as a possibility if there were homes that were ready. Sara Bartholomew moved to accept the secretary minutes and Steve Bartholomew seconded it. There was discussion about the lights being on in the park. This is costing us for the lights being on all the time. A motion was made to get an electrician for the park for repairs. People wanted to change the bulbs to LED lights or more energy efficient lighting. Bill Boom agreed to look into this and talk with Jeff to get an estimate. Motion was made to approve this by Jeff Gomez and Sara Bartholomew seconded it. Danielle Stone talked about the new store with the website called Café press. You can by online T-shirts, make a donation, or pay dues etc. Pedestal: It is going slow, but making progress. They are getting Bob Sidney to do the layout and take the photos of architecture. Walking Tour in the spring they are selling ads and checking into grant money. Discussion was had about making the brochures in color. It is directory time again, and any update information needs to get into Sara Ryan. Bill Boom had discussion on applying for a pilot project and gave updates from the city. Meeting was adjourned.
