The last year saw a new initiative that was led by the Australia Day Council of South Australia in conducting a citizenship ceremony at Adelaide Oval before the Port Adelaide vs Melbourne Demons game. This was a very exciting experience for the 24 new Australians who had a unique opportunity to become citizens of Australia at the brand new Adelaide Oval. I would also like to acknowledge one of our long serving Board of Management members, Mr Norman Schueler, who was this year appointed to the Board of the National Australia Day Council, the first South Australian to do so in many years. Casual staff were again employed for the peak periods of the year, including January for assistance in reception, merchandise duties, event assistance and on Australia Day. For the third year, Australia Day in the City was conducted solely by the Australia Day Council of South Australia and extra costs were incurred for casual staff. For the first time this involved a seconded staff member from the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Matthew Pearce. The Australia Day Council of South Australia again hosted a student from the International Tourism degree at Flinders University, an initiative that has been undertaken annually since 2008. Stephanie Fitzgerald completed her placement in January. Volunteers are so important to the overall success and enjoyment of our events and programs, especially the Australia Day Parade. Thank you to all of our volunteers for all of your hard work throughout the year.
Executive officer s report 4 Events Australian of the Year - Tour of Honour The Tour of Honour was held in June 2014 with three of the four Australian of the Year finalists for South Australia; Dr. Felicity-ann Lewis, Dr. Barbara Hardy AO and Julian O Shea. Unfortunately Dean Walker was unable to attend; but was still there in spirit. We visited four metropolitan schools, two Universities and two schools in the Riverland over the course of three days. A formal reception was also held by the Australia Day Council of South Australia, Brand South Australia and the Commonwealth Bank. The Tour of Honour brings recipients of the nation s most respected honour in contact with students and community members to share their inspiring stories. Adelaide Oval Citizenship Ceremony 20-7-14 The Adelaide Oval Citizenship Ceremony was a new initiative held in partnership with the Port Adelaide Football Club and the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, during the AFL s Multicultural Round. The new citizens, from Afghanistan, Brazil, India, Sri Lanka, the UK and Vietnam, made the Pledge of Commitment on the famous turf with the support of Stephen Yarwood, The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Adelaide, acting as the Presiding Officer. Australian of the Year Awards - Adelaide Oval 12-11-14 The South Australian Australian of the Year Awards ceremony continues to grow, with more than 470 people attending the formal event at Adelaide Oval. The Governor of South Australia, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO and the Honourable Jay Weatherill MP, Premier of South Australia presented the 16 finalists with their certificates, and awards to the 4 recipients. Ms. Sonya Feldhoff of ABC radio hosted the evening. Brand South Australia partnered with Australian of the Year Awards in South Australia for the third year with tremendous success. The Australian of the Year Awards showcases those pushing the boundaries of excellence for the greater good of our state and our nation. Australia Day Luncheon - Adelaide Entertainment Centre 16-1-15 Over 400 people attended the Australia Day Luncheon in 2015, sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank. His Excellency, the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO gave the Australia Day Address, which stressed that Australia must continue to be a welcoming and fair country to immigrants and refugees. Attendees at the Luncheon also heard from Dr. Gill Hicks, South Australian of the Year for 2015 and Ian Steel, Founder of Kickstart for Kids and were entertained by Black Fedora Jazz and the comedic stylings of Judith Lucy. The event was hosted by Will McDonald from Channel Nine Adelaide. Australia Day Awards - Government House 23-1-15 His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO, The Governor of South Australia, presented the recipients of the Australia Day Awards in a ceremony at Government House. This event also saw a large increase in attendance numbers in comparison to previous events, with over 250 guests arriving for the event. The Awards presented included the South Australian recipients of the Citizen of the Year Award, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year, the Minister for Education s Award for Excellence in Languages and Culture and the Women Hold Up Half the Sky Award. Executive officer s report Australia Day in the City Australia Day in the City continues to grow and improve each and every year. This year saw an estimated crowd of 42,000 people attending; with many more viewing the fireworks from different vantage points in Adelaide. 5 Over 3,000 people joined the Australia Day Parade which incorporated new groups including the Adelaide Red Hatters, the New Varangian Guard, the Overseas Friends of BJP Australia and Miss Africa South Australia. Sneaky Sound System headlined the event, supported by Brothers3 and South Australian act; Kaurna Cronin. The event had some new inclusions; a formal flag raising ceremony, presented by members of Defence, and the shift of the 21 gun salute to later in the evening to coincide with the Australia Day Concert. The event concluded with the spectacular Fireworks display, which was launched from three separate points including the new Riverbank Bridge. This event is conducted in partnership with Adelaide City Council and is managed by the Australia Day Council of South Australia. Sponsorship was received from the Commonwealth Bank for the concert, Novatech Creative Event Technology, Vili s Cakes, Coopers Brewery, Force Access and the Crowne Plaza Adelaide. The event also receives support from the South Australian Government, Australian Defence Forces and Multicultural SA. Media Partnerships with Mix 102.3 and Channel 9 continued again this year. Parade workshops were again conducted for 3 community groups - the Armenian Cultural Association of SA, the Adelaide Red Hatters and the Overseas Friends of BJP Australia - which was supported by a grant from Multicultural SA. Artist Matthew Plummer conducted the workshops and created some beautiful creations for these communities to use in the Parade and into the future. Awards were held for Parade participants with prizes and framed certificates awarded in the following categories: Best Costume Award: Adelaide Chinese Dance Academy Best Music Award: SaSamba and the Brazilian Community Most Creative Award: Falun Dafa Judges Choice Award: Girl Guides of South Australia Local Government Events The Australia Day Council of South Australia works in partnership with a number of bodies including each of the 68 councils in South Australia on a range of Australia Day programs and events. Local Government truly are the arms and legs on Australia Day in conducting over 100 events and functions across South Australia to celebrate our national day each year. The Australia Day Council of South Australia assists Local Government in a number of ways including promotion of their Australia Day event throughout website and social media platforms, provisions of frames, certificates and pins for the Citizen of the Year program and the Ambassadors program, which sends inspiring Australians directly to their community. Media A range of media releases for the South Australian press occurred throughout the month of January leading up to Australia Day. The National Australia Day Council also conducted a media program which contributed to some of the media coverage in South Australia. Australia Day in the City received extensive media coverage through media partnerships with Channel 9 Adelaide and Mix 102.3 continuing to bring valuable publicity to the event.

Executive officer s report Recognition The Australia Day Council of South Australia conducts further recognition programs centred around the theme of National Pride. Support for the Awards comes from the International Centre for Muslim and non-muslim Understanding (for the Award for Muslim and non-muslim Understanding), the Multicultural Education Committee (for the Minister for Education s Award for Excellence in Languages and Culture), and the Office of Women (for the Women Hold Up Half the Sky Award). It s a great opportunity to get together as a team for a morning tea or lunch and remember how lucky we are to live in Australia. This year, we encouraged workplaces across Australia to get together and hold a quick game of workplace cricket. This program originated in South Australia, and has since expanded nationwide. The 2015 program was co-ordinated by the National Australia Day Council, with South Australia providing administrative support.
Executive officer s report 8 Australia Day Ambassadors The Australia Day Ambassadors program, sponsored by Woolworths, was conducted in South Australia for the eighth time in 2015. The program is an initiative that sees high achieving and proud South Australians visit local Australia Day celebrations across our state. treasurer s report The ADCSA has had a strong year financially for 2014/15 with a turnaround of over $85,000 to return a surplus position of $42,472. The Board of Management and our staff should be commended for this. 11 There have been several factors outside of the hard work and dedication that has led to this improved position, with the main contributors being: An increased grant from the National Australia Day Council for Australia Day in the Office An increase in Corporate Club memberships with a number of new members joining this financial year which will ensure the sustainability of this program in the future An increase in sales of tickets to the Australia Day Luncheon - well done to the Board of Management for making the effort to increase attendance at this event by over 100 people Increased merchandise sales of 11% which occurred due to an expansion of revenue streams in this business by first testing the market for new products and introducing a range of new products including a number of new gifts for citizenship ceremonies and introducing new banners and other promotional material. An efficiency in the marketing of the merchandise program has also resulted in a 3% decrease in cost of goods and therefore increasing the overall profit of this program which is a fantastic result. Conversely, we have also managed to keep our general Expenses steady, but a big cost saving that we have started to see, and will continue to see, comes from the support for our office that we are now receiving from the State Government. This fantastic show of support has reduced our Expenses in the following areas: Rent Utilities including electricity, water and gas Computers and IT Postage The net impact of this support is in the region of $60,000 and will continue for the foreseeable future. Also, the rental expense of our previous Gilles St office is now finalised. As a Board we would like to give our sincere thanks and appreciation to the State Government for this additional support. As mentioned above, we have achieved an excellent result this year and the Board and staff should utilise this as a platform to continue the good work and achieve another positive result in the coming year. On a personal note I would like to offer my apologies that due to other commitments I will not able to attend this year s AGM in person. I would also like to note that, although I am thrilled that I was successful in re-election to the Board of Management for a further 2 years, I will be resigning from the position of Treasurer. This has been a difficult decision to make as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Treasurer but given an increase in my professional and personal commitments I feel that it is a decision that is in the best interest of the ADCSA and I will still be able to make my contribution as a Board Member. Financial report Statement of Significant Accounting Policies This financial report is a special purpose financial report prepared in order to satisfy the financial reporting requirements of the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 South Australia. The Board of Management has determined that the association is not a reporting entity. The financial report has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 South Australia and the following Australian Accounting Standards: AASB 110 Events after the Balance Sheet Date AASB 116 Property, Plant and Equipment AASB 117 Leases AASB 1031 Materiality No other applicable Accounting Standards, Urgent Issues Group Interpretations or other authoritative pronouncements of the Australian Accounting Standards Board have been applied. The financial report has been prepared on an accruals basis and is based on historic costs and does not take into account changing money values or, except where specifically stated, current valuations of non-current assets. The following material accounting policies, which are consistent with the previous period unless otherwise stated, have been adopted in the preparation of this financial report. (a) Income Tax No income tax has been provided for, as the Association is exempt from taxation under the Income Tax Assessment Act. (b) Fixed Assets The depreciable amount of all fixed assets are depreciated over the useful lives of the assets to the Association commencing from the time the asset is held ready for use. Impairment of Assets At the end of each reporting period, property, plant and equipment, and investments are reviewed to determine whether there is any indication that those assets have suffered an impairment loss. If there is an indication of possible impairment, the recoverable amount of any affected asset (or group of related assets) is estimated and compared with its carrying amount. The recoverable amount is the higher of the asset s fair value less costs to sell and its value in use. If the estimated recoverable amount is lower, the carrying amount is reduced to its estimated recoverable amount and an impairment loss is recognised immediately in the Profit and Loss Statement. (c) Trade Payables Trade payables are recognised at their transaction price. Trade payables are obligations on the basis of normal credit terms and do not bear interest. (d) Provisions: Employee Benefits Provision is made for the company s liability for employee benefits arising from services rendered by employees to the end of the reporting period. Employee benefits have been measured at the amounts expected to be paid when the liability is settled. (e) Cash and Cash Equivalents Cash and cash equivalents include cash on hand, deposits held at call with banks, other short-term highly liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less, and bank overdrafts (if applicable). Bank overdrafts (if applicable) are shown within borrowings in current liabilities on the balance sheet. (f) Revenue and Other Income Revenue is measured at the value of the consideration received or receivable after taking into account any trade discounts and volume rebates allowed. For this purpose, deferred consideration is not discounted to present values when recognising revenue. Interest revenue is recognised using the effective interest rate method, which, for floating rate financial assets, is the rate inherent in the instrument. (g) Goods and Services Tax (GST) Revenues, expenses and assets are recognised net of the amount of GST, except where the amount of GST incurred is not recoverable from the ATO. In these circumstances, the GST is recognised as part of the cost of acquisition of the asset or as part of an item of the expense. Receivables and payables in the Statement of Financial Position are shown inclusive of GST. (h) Trade and Other Receivables Trade receivables are recognised initially at the transaction price (i.e. cost) and are subsequently measured at cost less provision for doubtful debts. Most sales are made on the basis of normal credit terms and do not bear interest. At the end of each reporting period, the carrying amounts of trade and other receivables are reviewed to determine whether there is any objective evidence that the amounts are not recoverable. A provision for doubtful debts of trade receivables is established when there is objective evidence that the company will or may not be able to collect all amounts due according to the original terms of the receivables. 13

Financial report Statement by the Board of Management 15 In the opinion of the Board of Management, the Financial Report as set out on pages 12 to 14: 1. Presents fairly the financial position of the Australia Day Council Incorporated as at 28 February 2015 and its performance for the year ended on that date in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (including Australian Accounting Interpretations), mandatory professional reporting requirements and other authoritative pronouncements of the Australian Accounting Standards Board. 2. At the date of this statement, there are reasonable grounds to believe that the Australia Day Council Incorporated will be able to pay its debts as and when they fall due. 3. In accordance with Section 35(5) of the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 the Board of the Australia Day Council Incorporated, hereby states that during the year ended 28 February 2015: - no officer of the Association has, since the end of the previous financial year, received, or become entitled to receive a benefit (other than a benefit included in the aggregate amount of emoluments received or due and receivable by the officers of the Association shown in the financial report) as a result of a contract between the officer or a firm of which he/she is a member or an entity in which he/she has a substantial financial interest and the Association; - No officer of the Association has, since the end of the previous financial year, received directly or indirectly from the Association, any payment or other benefit of a pecuniary value (other than a benefit included in the aggregate amount of emoluments received or due and receivable by the officers of the Association shown in the financial report).
