WHAT S A DAY LIKE AT YMCA CAMP HANES? Your typical day here at YMCA Camp Hanes will be anything but ordinary. You ll wake up early in the cozy, air-conditioned cabin that you share with 10-14 other kids your age (along with a friendly, caring and highly qualified camp counselor). Then you re off to the dining hall for a big, hearty breakfast and maybe some good-natured fun with your fellow campers. A little later, you ll head over to the chapel for a short prayer service to start the day in thanks. Now, the real excitement begins. On the first day of camp, you and your cabin group will get to choose several great activities that you d like to participate in together during the week. (See the complete list on pages 11-13.) Plus, depending on your age, you can choose one or more other activities outside your cabin group that you d like to take part in. Our staff will then create a daily schedule that s designed to help you pack the most fun and excitement into every moment of your stay. 4 5
WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN, WHAT S UP? After a full day of doing what you love (with breaks for lunch and dinner, of course), the fun continues into the evening starting off the very first night with hilarious songs and skits around a campfire. And that s just the beginning. Do you like to roast marshmallows and make s mores? Want to go to a pool party? Or maybe dance the night away? Then, finally, each action-filled day comes to a quiet close, as you and your cabin mates gather with your counselor to talk about the day and how you feel about your YMCA Camp Hanes experience. 6 7
THE RIGHT PROGRAM FOR EVERY AGE. Besides our Traditional Camp, we offer three unique camping experiences for older children who are eager to take on greater challenges and/or further their leadership skills. In our weeklong Traditional Camp sessions, our campers are divided into three distinct activity groups, based on age and all our activities are supervised by trained staff members to ensure each camper s safety and enjoyment. Many of our activities are offered to all three age groups, allowing campers to progress each summer as they continue to hone their skills and talents. CLIMBERS AGES 6-9 (RISING 1ST-4TH GRADERS) The focus for our Climber campers is to build self-confidence and explore a variety of activities so they can learn about themselves and which activities they prefer. This age group also benefits from the lowest ratio of campers to staff members. Another option for ages 6-9 is our MINI-CAMP experience. It offers firsttime campers a shorter four-day, three-night stay at YMCA Camp Hanes instead of the usual week-long session. This is a great way to introduce younger kids to the away-from-home camping experience complete with a higher camper-to-counselor ratio of 1:3. MOUNTAINEERS AGES 10-12 (RISING 5TH-7TH GRADERS) The campers in this age group spend the first part of each day participating in activities that they and their cabin mates have selected. The second part of the day is devoted to each camper s personal choice of activities. ADVENTURE CAMP AGES 12-15 (RISING 7TH-10TH GRADERS) This program combines the best of on-site camp activities with challenging off-site adventures. Campers live in tents the entire week and participate in one of three adventure-themed experiences: Mountain, Rock Climbing, or Coastal. LEADERS IN TRAINING (LIT) (RISING 10TH GRADERS) LIT is a three-week program that helps participants grow in mind, spirit and body. The first week focuses on leadership development and teambuilding. The second week is devoted to volunteer service to others. And the third week is spent hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail. COUNSELORS IN TRAINING (CIT) (RISING 11TH GRADERS) CIT is a two-week, hands-on experience for individuals who would like to be counselors at YMCA Camp Hanes. During counselor training, participants also learn about the importance of hard work. They develop their strengths. And they become better prepared for the future. EXPLORERS AGES 13-15 (RISING 8TH-10TH GRADERS) In addition to a group activity time and a social emphasis, each camper is able to participate every day in the activities and classes of his or her choosing enabling the camper to continue refining his or her skills and interests. Because of the Explorer-level campers expanded activities, their typical day at camp may run a little longer before they gather with the rest of the camp for evening events. 8 9

WE RE ALL ABOUT FUN, WITH A PURPOSE. At YMCA Camp Hanes, you get to unplug and enjoy all kinds of exciting things that you can t do at home. And in the process, you ll learn new skills and make new friends (and memories) that you ll cherish forever. Here at YMCA Camp Hanes, you can be yourself, knowing that you ll be accepted for who you are while having a great time and building your self-confidence at your own pace. So... why do so many kids come back to YMCA Camp Hanes every summer? Ask the campers, and they ll tell you it s because of the terrific experiences they have here. Ask the campers parents, and they ll say that their child seems more confident. Or more motivated. Or more outgoing. The laughter and adventure and fellowship that thrive here at YMCA Camp Hanes may last only one or two weeks each summer. But the memories and the lessons will last a lifetime. 14 15
