Dave Hillard recovery Marijuana & Heroin Presentation flyer Noteworthy Department Updates Budget & Finance The 2014-15 Fiscal Year audit has been completed and submitted to the state for filing. The audited financial statements will be presented at the Jan. 27 Board of Commissioners meeting by the auditing firm of Koontz, Perdue & Blasquez. The 2016-17 Budget process is beginning to get underway and the county will be looking for applicants to fill three vacancies on the Lay Budget Committee for Districts 2, 3 and 4. County Manager The county received 49 applications for the vacant County Manager position, with an impressive depth and breadth of work experience from many of the applicants. Recruiter Heather Gantz will bring the top 12 or so applications to the Board of Commissioners for review at a Jan. 13 executive session, where the commissioners are expected to choose 4 to 6 finalists for in-person interviews. The interviews are set to take place Jan. 29. In the search to fill the vacant Human Resources Manager position, the interview panel will conduct follow-up interviews with the two finalists early next week. Grant Shimer Deputy Sheriff-Criminal D Laney Barendse Custodian Public Health Department staff this week took training on cultural diversity, which helps provide us with ways to better serve our population. Staff were visited by the new CEO of the Coastal Family Health Center, Cindy Stergar. Director Brian Mahoney participated with the state s Public Health Joint Leadership Team reviewing an assessment tool that will provide data for Public Health Modernization. Its purpose is to get quantitative and qualitative data to help determine how best to structure and fund public health in the future. Sheriff s Office Senior Corrections Deputy Dave Hillard has returned home after suffering a major heart attack more than a month ago, and he is expected to make a full recovery. What does this mean for communities, schools, families, and youth? As a follow-up to our fall forums on the new marijuana laws, this workshop will cover current marijuana issues and trends. Heroin: A highly addictive drug, the National Institute on Health estimates at least a quarter of heroin users will become dependent on it. Reports indicate that much of the heroin use is the result of the use and misuse of pain medication. Attendees will hear how this devastating drug is impacting our communities. Eric Martin: Eric is the past president & director emeritus of the Addiction Counselor Certification Board of Oregon, adjunct faculty member with the University of Oregon SAPP program, and has served on several Governor's advisory boards.
