food & wine Singleton wineries are back in business Tourism operators in the Singleton area want visitors to know the storm has passed and they are back in business. Despite all major roads reopening, Hunter Valley Wine Country businesses say they are continuing to suffer as visitors remain apprehensive about visiting a natural disaster zone. Singleton Council General Manager Lindy Hyam says there are reports of conferences being cancelled, a drop in bookings and general enquiries and loss of revenue at cellar doors following the April storm event. There s no doubt that our region, and some of our neighbouring council areas in particular, have been significantly impacted by the recent weather events, she says. Enquiries to the Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre have fallen 19 per cent while visitor numbers to the centre halved the week of the storm and have not returned to their usual level. However, Singleton and Hunter Valley Wine Country is back on its feet and the best way to support local businesses right now is by paying them a visit and enjoying some world-class food and wine. Ms Hyam says she welcomes the $1 million in funding for tourism promotion announced today by the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events.
