Recky Times Week 8 August 3, 2012 What we did this week It s a Small World! Scamper/KOM Buckeyes: This week, campers had fun learning about the diversity and other people in the world through crafts and different games. The Columbus Council on World Affairs visited and played educational games and activities with the campers. Make sure to ask about the cardboard boats campers built and raced in the pool! Discovery/KOM Brutus: Campers had a great time celebrating with Disney by tie dying, participating in an obstacle course, and making their own bows and arrows like Merida s. Explorer/KOM Scarlet- The campers played games from all around the world. The kids enjoyed a presentation by the Columbus Council of World Affairs who taught them about different countries participating in the Olympics and different games being played in the Olympics. The campers also enjoyed a visit from reptiles on Wednesday afternoon. Adventure/KOM Grey: This week, Adventure Campers went canoeing and rock climbing and played games oriented around China, Mexico, Britain, and the Wild West. Sports Camps: Volleyball was great this week! The campers spiked home a winning week with gusto! They learned bumping by playing bumping baseball, setting, and serving. International sports took campers all around the world with sports like cricket, handball, and rugby. The week ended with the Camp Recky Olympics. Teen Leaders: Teen campers went to the Ohio State Fair and enjoyed the food and animals. They also watched the Clippers at Huntington Park and took a trip to Amish Country where they saw giraffes. Kids in the Kitchen: Campers battled it out Top Chef style. Campers participated in many activities and competitions to challenge their creativity and cooking skills. Green Hands Environmental: This week at Green Hands Environmental Camp, campers planted two papaw trees in coordination with the Ohio State landscaping department. Campers also planted flowers, ventured on a bug hunt, enjoyed camp stories around a homemade fire pit, and learned how to set up a tent. Campers will soon set sail in canoes on Chadwick Lake!

Next Week Camp Recky Olympians Scamper/KOM Buckeyes: In the morning, campers will play many relay and competitive games. The children will make their own sashes, have a 3-legged race, toss water balloons, and learn different line dances. In the afternoon, camps will participate in Color Wars, Camp Recky s version of the Olympic Games Discovery/KOM Brutus: Campers will learn to compete like the Olympians in the Camp Recky Color Wars. The week will end with an Olympic closing ceremony and an ice cream party! Explorer/KOM Scarlet: In honor of the 2012 Olympics, the children will take participate in Olympic activities. The morning campers will create their own country with their own flag and compete against fellow campers. The week will end with a whole camp game. Adventure/KOM Grey: To conclude the summer, campers will make a silent film using disposable cameras. They will also play Olympicthemed games. Sports Camps: Sports camp ends with tennis and basketball.

Letter from the Camp Directors It s hard to believe that we only have one more week of Camp! This summer has been tons of fun and we are going to finish with a bang!
