Information requested: The status of the memorials and artworks in the Burwood/Pegasus ward is presented in the attached spreadsheet. The September 2010 earthquake caused no damage to the memorials or artworks in this ward. The February 2011 earthquake however caused some damage to three objects, Burwood War Memorial, New Brighton Clock and Poppies over Gallipoli artwork. Conclusion: There has been some damage to memorials and artworks as a result of the February 2011 earthquake. These are being assessed with the intention to repair. The graffiti has been removed as much as possible using poultices. Previous graffiti that has been treated in the same way has subsequently faded. It is expected the sun will bleach the remaining graffiti. Specially made and coloured panels were made to hide the graffiti for Anzac day. Normal twice a month wash down continuing. New Brighton Clock Tower Clock tower with four clock faces donated by R E Green. Foundation stone laid December 14 1934 by Mayoress of New Brighton. Marine Parade, outside New Brighton Library Clock Clock is safe with minor defects such as small cracks noted. Currently undertaking a DEE. The removal of graffiti from the clock is continuing on a proactive inspection round which is proving to be effective as the number of public reports has dramatically decreased.
