Ston City walls, Old town Salt mill Veliki Kaštio Located close to Dubrovnik, on the peninsula of Pelješac, this little town packs a big punch. It s city walls (the longest stone walls in europe!) hide many stories that explain much of the history of this region. But what makes the town truly rich is the oldest active salt mill in the world that still supplies Croatia with salt today. According to some historical sources it was operating in the days of Illyria and the Old Romans, and was expanded and repaired in the 14th century, after the Dubrovnik Republic bought Ston and protected it by the impressive defensive wall. 7

Within its streets, marble-clad homes glow with gradients of faded beige and alabaster white and red-tiled rooves conceal small eateries serwing fish stews and super-dry Croatian wines, and boats bob melancholically on the the age-old port. 8
Dubrovnik City walls Old town Dulce s palace Dubrovnik was known as the Adriatic Pearl in the early 19th century (thanks to the English poet Lord Byron). Seventy meeters long, this musical art project was created in 2005 by architect Nikola Basic, with the help of expert stone carvers. There are thirty-five organ pipes producing music that is both beautiful and haunting. Zadar is also known for its sunset which Alfred Hitchcock said was the most beautiful in the world. 13
