Welcome to Tanzania - Karibu Day 1: Arrival - Arusha On arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport you will be met and transferred to your lodge on the outskirts of Arusha, the launchpad for all Northern Tanzania safaris. There will be a trip briefing at the lodge this evening and the rest of the day/evening will be at your leisure. Tomorrow, we begin our journey. Accommodations: Mountain Village Lodge Day 2: Tarangire National Park Hearts race as our day begins in the 4x4 for the first time. We are headed for Tarangire National Park, a paradise for bird and animal watchers, and the third largest national park in Tanzania. This delightful park, covering an area of 2,600 sq km was established in 1970, and it is the numerous baobab trees that will initially catch your eye. The Tarangire National Park derives its name from the Tarangire River that rises in the highlands of central Tanzania and winds its way through the game sanctuary. Accommodations: Kichuguu Camp Day 3: Tarangire National Park We ll explore the park in depth during today s game drive; almost everything about Tarangire National Park has the potential to enthuse. Perhaps you ve just spotted a rare tree-climbing lion or caught sight of a cheetah as it races across the savanna. But for sure you have photographed the large herds of elephant that reside in the lush green landscape from recent rains. Accommodations: Kichuguu Camp
Day 4: Tarangire National Park - Karatu After breakfast we will depart for a half day in Tarangire National Park, leaving the Tarangire River and its inescapable draw, and moving toward the expansive Lake Manyara. We will then cross up and over the natural wonder of the Eastern Rift Valley via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu where we will overnight. Accommodations: Ngorongoro Farm House Days 6-8: Southern Behold, the vast endless plains known simply as the Serengeti, which spans over 12,000 sq. miles. Our driver guides know this land, so you will be treated to locations and camera shots that very few people experience. We will be in the middle of the large herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, with predators in every corner. And the birds...oh the BIRDS! Day 5: Karatu - Southern Today we begin our journey toward the Southern corridor of Serengeti National Park via the Maasai land with excellent landscape and cultural photography opportunities. Spend time with the native Maasai as they welcome us into their villages (Manyattas) and homes (Bomas). We will then head to our Serengeti tented camp. Day 9: Southern Serengeti - Central Serengeti Today we head for Central Serengeti National Park, known as Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti s species. We enjoy a game drive en-route to the camp. We arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive with a variety of options.
Day 10: Central Serengeti We bump over the plains of the Central Serengeti for one more day, searching the rippling grasses and towering acacia for Africa s big five: African buffalo, African elephant, black rhino, leopard, and lion. En route to our camp, we will have additional opportunities for a cultural safari, spending time with the local Maasai at local events. Day 11: Central Serengeti Ngorongoro Conservation Area After breakfast, we are off to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where we swap savanna scrub brush for lush plains and sapphire waters. We will descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, a massive epicenter of a collapsed volcano that hosts almost every species of wildlife present in East Africa. Accommodations: Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater We end our photo safari with another day in the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is undoubtedly the best place in Tanzania to view black rhino, as well as large prides of lion that include magnificent black-maned males. It is also home to huge herds of wildebeest and zebra, and diverse antelope such as the tiny Thomson s gazelle juxtaposed with the massive eland. An alkaline lake in the Crater floor provides a habitat for colorful flamingo and a variety of other water birds. Accommodations: Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge
