GWRRA Arizona Chapter A Region F California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Hawaii http://www.gwrraaz.org/aza Facebook page, GWRRA Tucson Chapter A Happy New Year, Director s Corner Chapter Director, Mike Hagen I hope everyone had a pleasant holiday season. This is Chapter AZ-A s 39 th birthday and I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank all of our members for their continued support for our chapter and GWRRA. With this in mind I think we should do something special for our 40 th birthday next year. If you have any ideas please share them with me at MHagen8805@aol.com let s make this a proud and memorable moment for GWRRA and Chapter AZ-A. I would like to encourage all of our members to let our newsletter sponsors know that you saw their ads when you visit them. We had quite a few withdraw their ads this year because they felt they had not received any business from their sponsorship. Don t forget to make plans to attend our Chili Cook Off on March 18 2017. I would also like to urge you to bring something (chili, cheese, cornbread, cookies etc.). We will start a list at the January gathering and then again in February. I would also appreciate it if you would bring something for the door prizes. If you can t attend the fund raiser you can leave the door prize at our February gathering. Finally let s not forget the upcoming region rally right here in Tucson at Star Pass Resort May 25 th - 30 th. There will be plenty of things to see, do, and buy, not to mention meeting up with old friends and making new ones. Past Chapter Directors Happy Birthday Chapter A! From the RIDER ED Desk Of Randy Wasser, AZ-A C.E. Whether you are already enrolled in the GWRRA Rider Education Levels Program or wondering if you want to apply, here is a reminder of what s it all about, and how to check your own history. The GWRRA Rider Education Program (REP) is intended to make the motorcycle environment safer by reducing injuries and fatalities and increasing motorcyclist skills and awareness. It is a comprehensive education program that can significantly help to reduce our accident rate. While it may not be for everyone, the REP Levels Program offers recognition for those who commit to continuously hone their motorcycle safety skills. The stepping stones to Master recognition Level 1 Safety by Commitment Personal Commitment to participate in Rider Education. Ask me for an application to the Rider Education Levels Program. (N.7) Return it and you re done. Level 2 Safety by Education Keep track of 5,000 Safe Miles Take a GWRRA Rider Course, MSF Rider Course or Equivalent (Get your motorcycle endorsement.) Add a sanctioned GWRRA Motorcycle, Trike, Sidecar, or any advanced rider courses. Ask me for an update form and return it. (N.7) Level 3 Safety by Preparedness Add a few more classes: Motorist awareness, First Aid, and CPR from a variety of sources. (N.7) Level 4 Safety by Enhanced Commitment and Preparedness (Master) For the next year after receiving your level 3 Just keep everything you ve done so far up to date Accumulate 25,000 miles Maintain proper riding gear (ATGATT). Ask me for and return a Master s Application (N.9). Maintaining your membership, active participation, and certifications increases your Master s recognition one more level every 5 years to: Senior Master ~ Grand Master ~ Life Grand Master To accomplish that, you will need to monitor your personal history available by going to: http://gwrra.org/ Hover your pointer the Programs tab, then slid over to and select Rider Education. http://gwrra.org/regional/ridered/index.html Follow the blue buttons on the left side and select My R.E. Getting to Know Your Chapter Staff AZ-A Assistant Chapter Directors Ken Porter & Madeleine Montante Ken and Madeleine met while living in Northern California. They were actually neighbors years ago and their daughters played together. After Ken's divorce, they dated for a year, then reunited 20 years later in San Francisco, California. Ken's first motorcycle was a green Honda 550/4, which he enjoyed riding while in his mid-20's. Ken and Madeleine bought a 1984 Honda Aspencade, Champagne color, in 2001. In 2004, for Ken's birthday, Madeleine bought their first Harley Davidson, a black and silver 100th Anniversary Wide Glide. In the following few years, they purchased four more Harleys and rode all over Northern California with a local HOG group out of Fremont, California. They even purchased a "Wags" trailer to accommodate their Border collie named Koda. Ken's favorite ride was called "ABC's in a day." This was an annual ride that HOG sponsors and consists of a group riding to different landmarks, having a photo taken of the member, their bike and the landmark, completing all the letters of the alphabet within a 12 hour day. They currently ride a 2008 red GL 1800 and have 36,000 miles on it. They purchased it from CSA in 2014 and attended their first Chapter A meeting, and shortly thereafter joined GWRRA. They are at Level 1 in the Master s Program. They enjoy camping with their dog "Koda" in AZ in their Motorhome. They have a Jeep 4x4 and enjoy off road sightseeing when they have time. They love the areas of Sedona and Prescott, but haven't taken their bike up there yet. Sounds like that's on their bucket list! They have been together 20 years, and married 16 years. They moved to Tucson in 2011; and both are Managers of Trails West Manufactured Home Community. Madeleine has a daughter and one grandson; Ken has a daughter, four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Debbie Ammons

Hi Susan, Mary Anne and I have decided not to haul the trike back to Illinois anymore when we go back on vacation. Therefore we really don't need our cargo trailer anymore so we've decided to sell it. It is a Pace American trailer that's 15 1/2 feet long and 7 feet wide. Perfect for a trike or two Goldwings. It's completely done on the inside with black diamond plate rubber flooring with white siding with lighting. It's a 2013 trailer with all the extras including built in rear jacks, Tribal graffics, Spare tire & tire cover, a trailer cover that I paid $500 for and straps & Locks. It also has a Condor wheel chock installed inside the trailer which was over $200. I want $4500 for it which is one heck of a deal. Could you please put it in the next newsletter to let chapter members have first chance at it before I advertise anywhere else. My home phone is 520-290-2949. Thank you. Jerry Johnson
