OAK PARK YMCA Day Camp at the Oak Park YMCA provides kids a chance to grow, learn, and explore in a safe and structured environment. When your child attends Day Camp, they join a community that cares for them and builds them up. More than a place to have fun and make memories, Day Camp helps kids make friends, grow in confidence, learn how to take appropriate risks, and unleash their imagination in a creative and collaborative setting. As well as theme related field trips, our camp takes full advantage of our full family facility. When campers aren t diving deep into their weekly theme they will also swim in our pool, play games in the gym, try their hand at gaga and get creative with art. Located just off the I96 Cedar St. exit, it is easily accessible from all parts of Greater Lansing. Hours of Operation Oak Park YMCA camps are from 8:45a.m. - 4:00p.m., Monday through Friday. Campers may not be dropped off prior to 8:45am and must be picked up by 4:00pm, unless enrolled in extended care. Extended Care Extended care is available for all Oak Park summer camps. Extended care hours are from 7:00 am to the start of camp and from the end of camp to 6:00pm. You can drop off or pick up your child any time during the extended care hours. The fee is $40/week/child. Age Appropriate Activities All summer camp programs have been designed with your child in mind. Campers are grouped with those of similar ages and participate in activities that are appropriate for their age group. Financial Assistance Camp scholarships for camps are available for those who qualify. We want every kid to have the opportunity to experience camp! Actions deemed physically or emotionally harmful to oneself or another camper are subject to immediate dismissal. This includes inappropriate or aggressive physical contact and repeated hurtful words. Campers should all have the opportunity to grow personally, develop a positive self image, learn to appreciate diversity, feel safe, feel accepted and have FUN. Safe Environment Parents trust us with their most precious possession, their children, and we take that very seriously. Staff members are trained in safety procedures for each activity, risk management principles and child abuse detection and prevention strategies. Highest Quality Staff The YMCA camp staff is highly trained and very committed. References and past work experiences are thoroughly checked. Criminal checks and drug screenings are conducted prior to hiring. We employ hard working young men and women who are dedicated, experienced, responsible, enthusiastic, positive and fun! All staff members are trained in CPR and Basic First Aid. How to Register Summer programs fill quickly, so register early. You can register online, by phone, in person, by mail. Only applications which are completed in full, signed and accompanied by the appropriate fees will be processed. Online registrations require payment by credit card. Registration/health forms must be completed and signed before attending camp. ACCORDING TO MICHIGAN STATE LAW: Concussion forms must be completed and signed before attending camps. ADVENTURE CAMPS Make new friends, learn new skills and enjoy being outdoors. Adventure camp activities and field trips are coordinated with the weekly theme in mind. Campers will have the opportunity each week to participate in other camp activities such as swimming, crafts, group games and gaga. All campers are grouped according to age. Amazing Race Week 10 Race around the world in 5 days with your group by learning about a new country each day this week with unique cultural experiences! You could be headed to Kenya one day to make Ugali, the next to Romania learning a traditional dance! But watchout, the other groups are also traveling around the world this week and may leave a roadblock to slow you down! This, is the Amazing Race! Bugs Life Week 5 Do you ever wonder about the tiny creatures that live amongst us? This week we will dig in to see where ants live, how bees fly and how long a spider can weave her web. Campers will also visit Fenner to get up close and personal with what s creepy and crawly. Disney Week 6 Be our guest this summer as we dream, soar, and dive into a whole new world of Disney! Come explore all of your favorite characters, songs, and kingdoms this week from the classic animations, to Pixar, Star Wars, and new live action remakes! So wish upon a star with us as it s sure to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Game Show Network Week 8 Campers will have the opportunity to playfully compete in their favorite game show challenges. They will try their hands at Name That Tune, shake their tails in Minute To Win It, test their counselors knowledge in Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader and many more. Heroes and Villains Week 2 We are under attack from evil villains and need your help. Throughout this week we will work with campers to hone in on their super powers to explore what it takes to be an everyday hero. This week will include special guests at the Oak Park YMCA. Moovin and Groovin Week 11 Whether you want to sway, twirl, whirl, pirouette or just plain boogie this is the camp for you. Learn the many styles of dance from modern to hip hop taught by trained dancers. On Friday we invite you to see our final choreographed routine! Party in the USA Week 4 Celebrate our nation s birth while learning about its states and traditions. Whether it s a hoedown in Houston or a Luau in Honolulu campers will journey the nifty fifty learning about the history, geography and traditions along the way. Be sure to wear your Red, White and Blue! (This is a three day camp week, no camp Thurs July 4 or Fri July 5). Pirate Paradise Week 3 Arrgh Matey! Can you help us find the lost treasure? Use maps to find the lost treasure, create sand art, capture the pirate flag and survive the cannonball attacks through he obstacle course to find your way safely home. This week also includes a trip to the East Lansing Aquatics Park. The Great Outdoors Week 1 Join our counselors on daily hikes and outdoor adventures at various parks in our community. Campers will explore nature, go on scavenger hunts, and much more. Time Travelers Week 9 Ever wonder what it was like to live in a different era? Well here s your chance. Campers will time travel during the week to learn how life was when the dinosaurs roamed all the way to the present day and even beyond! Winter in July Week 7 Do you want to build a snowman? We are bringing a little winter to camp this week with winter and holiday themed games, crafts, and activities. Come on let s go and play, the hot and the cold are both so intense, put them together it just makes sense!
SPECIALTY CAMPS YMCA specialty camp is designed for those campers that are looking for a little more than the standard camp experience. Campers will spend time in their themed activity each morning then enjoy swimming, crafts, group games and gaga in the afternoons. This allows the campers a variety of activities while still having the opportunity to dive deep in the chosen theme. Field trips and all equipment/instruction are included in the fee for this camp. Campers will be grouped according to age. Art Attack Week 11 Attention art enthusiasts! Do you love using a variety of materials to create a masterpiece? If so, then this is the camp for you. Art isn t just an indoor activity, as campers will be doing projects both inside and out! Prepare to get messy this week and let your imagination and creativity run free! Parents, please come visit the Y Art Gallery when you pick up your camper on Friday. Comic Con Week 4 Calling all Trekkers, Jedis, comic book heroes, video gamers and cosplayers of all shapes and sizes! Create your own comic book, dress as your favorite characters, and battle your Pokemon, this week at Comic Con camp! (No camp on Thursday July 4 or Friday July 5!) Harry Potter Week 7 Are you a brave Gryffindor, a witty Ravenclaw, a caring Hufflepuff, or a sneaky Slytherin? Come one come all Potter-heads, this is the camp for you! We are doing everything Harry Potter this week from Quidditch to potions class! So get ready to be sorted and enter the magical world of Harry Potter. STEM: Minecraft Week 5 Campers will get away from the screen and jump into the game. Campers will use survival skills, creativeness, and map reading to explore the basic principles of the game through exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and basic coding. Survival or creative mode, which will you choose? Music Makers Week 10 Throughout the week campers will explore different styles of music and how it s made. They will get up close and personal with different instruments when Marshall Music visits with their Musical Petting Zoo, while later in the week we will get a tour of their facility. Performing Arts Camp Week 2 Campers will learn what it takes to put on a true performance from set design to costume selection. Groups will write their own script, choreograph their own moves in order to put on a performance on Friday. STEM: Space Station Vacation Week 8 Calling all future astronauts! The depths of space are full of possibilities for discovery, from the sun and moon to rockets and aliens. This week will really be out of this world. Splish Splash Week 6 Water, waves and a water park! Pack plenty of sunscreen this week as campers will visit various local parks, play a variety of fun water games and take a field trip to the East Lansing Aquatics Center. STEM 101 Week 1 Campers will get down and dirty while making interesting discoveries in labs by experimenting with the yucky, weird substances that you know and love. Experiments will include making Slime, Homemade Flubber, Popsicle Stick Catapults and many more. This camp will include a trip to Impressions 5. Water Wipeout Week 9 As temperatures rise, we ll keep cool during this week of water fun. Campers will spend the week playing water games, participate in a water balloon toss, and get to slide down our giant slip and slide (a camp favorite). This camp also includes a trip to the East Lansing Aquatics Center. Zoology Week 3 It s a wild world out there! Zoology is the study of zoo animals so let s take two trips to Potter Park Zoo to work with their Zoologists and learn what top predators eat, how zoos are an integral part of saving endangered species, and do some in-depth research and observations of your favorite zoo animal!
SPORTS CAMPS The Oak Park YMCA sports camps provides campers with an opportunity to explore a specific sport while incorporating the great activities that are a part of the traditional camp experience. Campers will receive instruction and guidance from accomplished staff, athletes, and coaches while practicing their skills each morning and some afternoons while still having the opportunity to participate in swimming, crafts, group games and gaga in the afternoons. Basketball Week 5 This camp will focus on shooting, dribbling, defense, teamwork and conditioning for all levels. Campers will be divided by skill level and spend time working on conditioning, learning set plays, and play instructional games in order to improve their skills. Soccer Week 8 This summer the YMCA is partnering with the Capital Area Soccer League to provide basic, fundamental soccer instruction. CASL is a community-based, non-profit organization that gives the opportunity for low-cost soccer participation. Each participant will be introduced to the building blocks of the game including dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, finishing and goal keeping. Silly Sports Week 7 This week is all about crazy and silly sports such as pin dodge, bucket brigade, and minute to win it games that campers and counselors will create throughout the week. Campers put on your creative thinking caps and prepare to have a fun, silly week. Sports Extravaganza Week 3 Game on! This camp is designed to teach general skills in a variety of sports including: soccer, tennis, basketball, futsal, baseball, floor hockey, pickleball and more. Each of the two weeks will focus on a different set of sports. This week will also include a field trip to a Lansing Lugnuts game! Swim Camp Week 2, 6, 9 Swim Camp includes daily dry land drills, water drills, games and relays instructed by Oak Park Swim Instructors. Campers will be divided into groups of beginners, intermediate and advanced.
