The fireworks will be staged on Upham Beach. All normal beach and parking ordinances will be in effect. The Upham beach entrances will be closed to the public starting at 6pm and a beach launch area will be established. For more information, contact the City of St. Pete Beach at 727.367.2735. FROM THE PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT The City will be performing an emergency repair to the wastewater main beneath 55 th Avenue, adjacent (but not related) to Lift Station #2. This repair will include replacement of a portion of the pipe as well as construction of a new manhole adjacent to the Station. In order to facilitate this repair, modifications to traffic (MOT) will be required, including removal of the curb and placement of a temporary asphalt drive lane on what is currently the grass portion of the City s Right-of- Way along the south side of 55 th Avenue. Please make the necessary arrangements to accommodate any delays associated with this MOT. We appreciate your patience with this emergency repair, which should last approximately one month. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the City s Project Manager, Ian Wade 727.363.9254 LIBRARY NEWS & EVENTS - Monday, 5:30 pm, Family Night at the Library (activities, apps, crafts, games); Thursday, 11 am, Mother Goose Time (for ages 0-3); Thursday, 3:00 pm, Storytime (for ages 3-5); Thursday, 4:00 pm, I Want to Be a Skeeter Reader (skill building for beginning readers. The schedule for the Summer Dive-In Movies is: TONIGHT, June 26- Maleficent, July 10-The Lego Movie, July 17-Frozen, July 24 Despicable Me, July 31 Happy Feet, August 7-Wreck It Ralph, August 14-Monster University. Event will be cancelled in inclement weather. RECLAIMED WATER USE The City of St Pete Beach owns & operates its re-claimed water distribution system, but purchases reclaimed water from Pinellas County. During recent months, very limited rainfall in the reclaimed water service area has increased customer demand. Storage levels of reclaimed water have been rapidly declining, to the point of exhausting the reclaimed water in storage. While the City of St Pete Beach is not mandating reclaimed water restrictions, we strongly encourage our residents to conserve. It is important to note that if Pinellas County runs out of reclaimed water for the City of St Pete Beach to purchase, then SPB re-claimed water customers will be without reclaimed water during these times. As a result, it s critical that we all do what we can to use only the absolute minimum amount of reclaimed water in the coming months. We appreciate our reclaimed water customer s patience, understanding, and cooperation. For more details, please call the Public Services Department at 727.363.9243. City Commission meetings replay on Ch. 642 on a continuous loop

P O O St. Pete Beach enews The Official Electronic Newsletter of St. Pete Beach June 26, 2015 A MESSAGE FROM DUKE ENERGY Several business owners have reported receiving unsolicited calls from someone who falsely claims to be a Duke Energy representative. The thief tells the customer his or her account is past due and service will be disconnected if a large payment isn t made usually within less than an hour. A similar scam was reported by customers this past fall in both the Tampa Bay and Orlando areas. In all the recent instances, the scammers request the same type of payment: The thief instructs the customer to purchase a pre-paid debit or credit card widely available at retail stores then call him or her back to supposedly make a payment to Duke Energy. The scammer asks the customer for the prepaid card s receipt number and PIN number, which grants instant access to the card s funds. Some of these criminals also use caller ID spoofing to replicate Duke Energy s customer service number. Duke Energy never asks or requires either business or residential customers who have delinquent accounts to purchase a prepaid card to avoid electric service disconnection. Customers have multiple payment options: online, phone, automatic bank draft, mail, or in person. In addition, Duke Energy customers with delinquent accounts receive written notifications from the company prior to electric service disconnection never just a single notification by phone one hour before disconnection. Any customer who experiences these types of calls should report the activity first to local authorities, and then to Duke Energy Florida at 800-700-8744. FROM THE SHERIFF S OFFICE - Please lock your car doors and stow valuables out of sight. Check out the Sheriff s website for access to programs and services to learn how to protect yourself, your family and your possessions. To contact our Community Policing Officer call 582-5721. CITY OFFICES CLOSED FRIDAY, JULY 3RD IN OBSERVANCE OF INDEPENDENCE DAY.

The use of fertilizer and pesticides in St. Pete Beach is regulated by the Pinellas County Fertilizer Ordinance. If you hire a commercial lawn service to provide landscaping, mowing and/or fertilizer application, the commercial lawn service must be trained and certified in Green Industries Best Management Practices, and Landscape Best Management Practices. The commercial vehicles must display a decal showing that the company is trained and certified. The decal resembles the following: If you have waterfront property, fertilizers and pesticides should not be applied within 10 feet of the water. When mowing grass, make sure to aim clippings away from the water if a bagger is not used. Also, keep grass clippings and other vegetative debris away from storm drains, roadways and water bodies. Remember Pinellas County does not allow the application of fertilizer on lawns during July, August and September!
