DAY 2, THURSDAY, JUNE 28 Arrivals Exploring Berlin International arrivals at Berlin airport and train station. Upon arrival, convention participants will be met by Ayelet Tours representatives and local hosts for assistance. Transfer to the hotel for check-in and a chance to freshen up. An orientation tour of Berlin will be offered to those arriving early, beginning with a drive through the former West Berlin. Pass by the Charlottenburg Palace. Experience the Kurfurstendamm, home to some of Berlin s high-end shops. View the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, destroyed during WWII. Continue to New Berlin, where we learn about the renewal and rebuilding of this area that used to be known as No Man s Land. Pass by the Holocaust Memorial, Brandenburg Gate, and the German Parliament. View the new Central Station, point Charlie, Museums Island and the East Side Gallery, a remnant of the Berlin Wall that now serves as an international memorial. Evening transfers from the hotel to the opening lecture by Professor Stephen Berk. Next, we enjoy the opening ceremony and concert, including a meaningful Mincha/Ma ariv Service. Overnight Berlin. DAY 3, FRIDAY, JUNE 29 History in Potsdam Breakfast. This morning we will depart from Berlin for a full day tour of Potsdam, Berlin s sister-city. Enroute, we cross the Glienicke Bridge, a famous exchange point for Soviet spies during the days of the Cold War. In Potsdam we view the stunning Sanssouci Palace and Gardens, built by Frederick the Great. Continue to Cecilienhof Palace, site of the famous 1945 meeting between Truman, Churchill and Stalin. Walk to the University of Potsdam to see the Geiger College, home of the new Cantorial and Rabbinical School. Shabbat services together will be an unprecedented experience. Enjoy Shabbat dinner at the Maritim Hotel Ballroom. Overnight Berlin. DAY 4, SATURDAY, JUNE 30 Shabbat Shalom! Breakfast. This morning we hold services at the New Synagogue, a historic synagogue that survived the 1938 pogroms but was partially destroyed by bombing in 1943. A permanent exhibition details the history of the synagogue s rebuilding, begun in 1988. Here we honor women cantors and rabbis in the same place where the first woman rabbi was ordained (1935). This afternoon we will enjoy meetings and study sessions with members of the Berlin Jewish community in different locations throughout Berlin. Local walking tours will be offered in the late afternoon. Dinner on own. Enjoy a special evening lecture by Professor Stephen Berk at the Jewish Museum, followed by a unique Havdallah service celebrating Ashkenazi, Hassidic and Sephardic traditions. Overnight Berlin. This afternoon we enjoy a special ceremony at Olympic Park, honoring the memory of the eleven Israelis that were assassinated during the 1972 Olympic Games. Special guests will include nine time Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Spitz and other honored dignitaries. Enjoy a lecture by Professor Berk followed by a special dinner and concert at the renowned Jewish Community Center in Munich. Overnight Munich. DAY 7, TUESDAY, JULY 3 The Horrors of Dachau Breakfast. Early morning departure to Dachau. Here we will visit the former concentration camp and participate in a special ceremony. The memorial site today houses a museum, archive and library. It was opened in 1965 as a place of learning on the 20th anniversary of the camp s liberation. Participate in an afternoon tour of Munich, exploring the major landmarks of the city. Enjoy a lecture by *itinerary subject to change Professor Berk followed by an evening at leisure. Overnight in Munich. DAY 8, WEDNESDAY, JULY 4 Optional Excursion to Salzburg, Austria Breakfast. TRACK 2: Israel Museum: The Israel museum recently completed a $100 Million renovation, and the resulting museum is world class in every way. Our visit to the Israel Museum will start at the Shrine of the Book, where the Dead Sea Scrolls are preserved and displayed, along with many other ancient artifacts. We view the fascinating Model of Jerusalem as it stood during the time of the Second Temple, recreated in stunning detail. Continue our visit to the Israel Museum showcasing everything from classic and renaissance art, to modern and pop installations. We give special focus to the Judaica exhibitions and the special exhibitions on display. The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Wing for Jewish Art and Life presents the religious artwork of Jewish communities worldwide, with works dating from the Middle Ages to the present.
