Welcome to KMI Airport MQP / FAKN Arguably one of the most attractive airports in the world, the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, or KMI Airport as it is commonly known, is the official international port of entry into Mpumalanga, home to the world s most iconic game reserve, the Kruger National Park, its third largest canyon the Blyde River Canyon, Sudwala Caves and many scenic and heritage attractions. This ICAO approved International Airport is geared to handle every visitor with the greatest of ease and is equipped with all of the required international airport services, which includes Customs, Immigration, Border Police and Department of Health. The airport boasts a wide and pristine runway of 3.1km which can accommodate up to a Boeing 747 or Airbus series aircraft, and prides itself in being the holder of a fire and rescue category eight international airport license. Since commencing business operations on the 21 st of October 2002 to date, KMI Airport has opened up the skies over Mbombela (Nelspruit) for over 3 Million passengers, affording expanded opportunities to the tourism and business industries of the province. The terminal building, constructed as an African theme all under thatch has a total floor space of 7350 square meters, making this the largest thatch constructed airport in the world, a true architectural masterpiece. The unique aesthetics and decor of the building blend in with the surrounding bushveld, which has become a favourite landmark among passengers visiting the beautiful province of Mpumalanga. The airport is currently able to accommodate a passenger capacity of 600 000 per annum with significant expansion potential.
