Directors Message Summer is here - and Car show opportunities are rolling in. We kicked of May with many options - many of us gathered for different events. June is here and we have the opportunity to visit a San Francisco hidden treasure - the Octagon House and SF Academy of Arts Auto Museum. However because of the traffic and parking options in the City, it is a Car Pool event using our Daily Drivers. See Details in the upcoming EVITE. June also brings Julliard Park on Father's Day. Always a well attended event. Many members look forward to the day and the opportunity to catch up and share stories. Please note - OCTOBER event (was Oct 10 - has been changed to Oct 1). Please mark your calendars accordingly. The recent car show in Sebastapol was sold out early May and a few of our club members were not able to attend. So be sure to register early for any car shows you plan to attend as they fill up fast, when they have to limit the number of participants. Happy Buicking. April Kahnberg 3

MINUTES OF THE BUICK CLUB OF THE REDWOODS MAY 11, 2016 MEETING Director, April Kahnberg, called the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m. thanking those present for attending the meeting. Members in attendance were Don and Lois Brooner, Bill and Joan Costello, April and Rich Kahnberg, Ben Karnes and Stan Sollid. There was a motion to accept the minutes from the April meeting as published in the Nailhead News. Rich gave the Treasurer s report. $60.00 was deposited last month from raffle, pin sales and dues. $11.41 was dispersed for a new roll of raffle tickets. Two previous members rejoined last month bringing our total membership to 21. Rich had a 16 X24 metal sign to show members that he had made from a picture of his 1967 Riviera. The cost is $40.00 plus tax and shipping. There was interest from members so Rich will send out an e-mail to all members with the person s contact information. Our Webmaster was not present but he had previously shared with April that our website had 182 visitors; 382 pages viewed in one week. OLD BUSINESS April reported that she has not heard any further information regarding the site for the 2018 Westcoast National Meet. Stan presented to the members information and examples of license plate covers to be placed over your car s license plate during a car show to insure privacy. 1. Plastic covers secured with Velcro - $9.00 each 2. Laminated heavy cardboard secured with clip or Velcro - $5.00 each 3. Magnetic plastic - $10.00 each The above prices are estimates only. Members in attendance voted on two of the above that would be offered to members for purchase laminated cardboard and magnetic plastic. Stan will send out an e-mail to all members with firm prices and information on each of the two covers. Members will then place an order for the covers they want. If unable to pick up the cover they ordered at a meeting or event, members will be responsible for postage. 4

Members present agreed that it is okay to sell our inventory of pins and earrings to the best offer. April did not have the wholesale value of the pins at the meeting so this was tabled until next meeting. Bill and Joan will check if there are any pin vendors at the Good Guys Show on June 4 th and 5 th. NEW BUSINESS April asked if it would be okay for her and Rich to take our club banner to Allentown in July for the BCA National Meet. Everyone present thought it was a good idea. Upcoming BCR events were discussed. The next club event is The Drive to Perfection Car Show and Cruise on May 28 th sponsored by the Senior Center of Sebastopol. The 50/50 raffle of $11.00 was won by Stan. The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Joan Costello Secretary 5

SALVATION ARMY CAR SHOW AT CASA GRANDE HIGH SCHOOL in PETALUMA, CALIF. May 7, 2016 Contributed by Terry Eggleston The local weatherman apparently hadn t gotten the memo that we are in a drought. As our intrepid crew headed for a Petaluma meeting at 8:00 AM there were small drops of water on our windshields. Ever confident, we trudged on and took our places at this annual event. Our optimism was misplaced as the rain became harder. We soon abandoned our early attempts at keeping our beauties dry we nestled in a circle between cars and tried to avoid the water dripping through a covering above our heads. It wasn t really all that bad, as we had our usual excellent camaraderie. It s amazing how many world problems a dedicated group of gearheads can solve at one sitting! Attendees were Alden Hennings (this reporter got his first glimpse of his beautiful Riviera), Rich and April Kahnberg, Bill and Joan Costello, Ed and Cynthia Petersen (with their 1954 Chevy Pick-up) and Terry Eggleston. There were about (I m guessing) forty cars including a plethora of mid-eighties supped-up Honda types, as well as VW s. I enjoyed looking over and getting the history of a 1948 Chevrolet convertible. One fella brought a recently purchased Cold War Era chemical weapon defense truck he had converted the back into a makeshift RV. Pretty cool, actually. Ruby brought home the best in class trophy, now entrenched on my mantel.life is Good! 6

May 7, 2016 Outing for Petaluma Salvation Army Contributed by Alden Hennings (( The Mechanics behind a successful and "growing show". )) On May 7th, the Salvation Army of Petaluma held their 4th Annual car show at the Casa Grande High School. The turnout was excellent considering the lousy weather they had on this Saturday. Those that came out for this fund raiser were Bill and Joan Costello, April and Richard Kahnberg, Terry Eggleston, Ed and Cynthia Petersen and Alden Hennings. (And a visit from BCR member Ray Tomasello) Going back: The first one was, four years ago, the turn out this year was the best. On the first year they had 13 cars plus 2 motorcycles and 4 custom bicycles. On their second year they had 32 entries in the show. On the third 45 cars showed up and this their fourth year there was a turnout of 72 cars. That was way more than they were hoping for with the rainy weather they had for this day. The Petaluma Kiwanis donated a booth with pastries and breakfast burritos. A group from Turlock came with a BBQ trailer and cooked a wonderful luncheon for those at the car show. A jumping tent was donated for the children to have fun and keep them occupied. There were over 30 trophy's given out for various categories. Terry Eggleston won the trophy for Best Classic Car. Congratulations. After expenses they netted almost $1100 from this event which will help greatly in purchasing food for the needy in Petaluma. On behalf of the Salvation Army, we again thank you for helping them to continue to be a major source of supplying the city of Petaluma with food for the needy. 9

Friday May 20th, a few of us gathered together at the American Graffiti Cruise In as an informal get together. The Following are pictures that Terry took to share the event with those who didn't venture out. Did I mention how windy it was out there.!!!!! (says April) 10

2016 American Graffiti Car Show May 21, 2016 Contributed by Kenny Silvestri This year I was lucky to win one of the top awards with my 1938 Buick Special two door coupe at the American Graffiti Car Show. The judges looked at all the cars that were there twice and kept coming back to the 1938 Buick Coupe. After comparing all their notes, they felt that my Buick was their number one pick of the show. Wow! This was a surprise to me to hear that my Buick was pick number one of the show. The judges stated to me that the Buick was picked for its beautiful lines and color along with the excellent job of restoring it. The judges were also impressed with the stock upholstery, stock dash board, new window seals, engine compartment, wiring and the beautiful chrome work. I'm very happy to see this Buick Special being so greatly appreciated. All the people that looked at the Buick thought the car was very stunning and had a lot of class. 15

Drive to Perfection Car Show May 28, 2016 Senior Center, Sebastopol Contributed By Terry Eggleston Summer temperatures in the low 80 s and sunny skies greeted our Club as we attended this wonderful show in Sebastopol on May 28 th. Rich and April, Stan and Gail, Jeff and Bruce (with Jeff s Continental), Keith, and Antonio making his Buick Club debut with his beautiful 1938 Roadmaster. Terry came sans Ruby (it s complicated). I m guessing there were approximately 200 cars there. I particularly liked the two vintage Air Stream trailers, one towed in by a 1948 Mercury Woodie and the other by a 57 Ford Station Wagon. We met a nice couple who had a 1952 Special..potential club members? Here are some pictures from the show See you next month for our trip to San Francisco to visit the Octagon House. 16
