June 23 Eggleston Tour! Sunday morning was GRAY and threatening rain. however that didn t dampen the spirits of the hearty tourers who showed up at Larkfield Center for Eggleston s Tour: Bill & Cynda in their 30 (?) Model A Coupe, Gail in his 12 Model T Torpedo Roadster, John P driving his 09 Buick Touring (ride-alongs were Vicki and Guy), Kim and Wayne in their new 10 Packard Gentleman s Roadster, and Daryl & Linda in their 23 Buick Touring. Linda provided warm-from-the-oven chocolate and apple muffins and John P brought some fabulous fresh apricots from home! Michelle Smith came to see everyone off and Kim & Wayne s friend Neil Martin showed up and took some artsy photos of the Packard! Our route took us up Mark West and then Franz Valley to Franz Valley School Road to Calistoga. The weather was still looking very ominous but fingers and toes were crossed and we stayed dry. We parked in the Sharpsteen Museum parking lot in Calistoga and then wandered through Thrift stores for an hour, while some of the guys remained at the cars talking non-stop car stuff. Wayne was certainly doing his share, what with the Packard running smoothly and having the time of his life on the maiden California tour! Upon leaving Calistoga, we wound our way up back streets to Tubbs Lane and then north on Highway 128 to Alexander Valley. Beautiful touring, dry roads (!), little traffic and warm enough even in the overcast. Lunch stop was Alexander Valley Vineyards where we were joined by Al & Myrna for a picnic. Some fine zinfandel and chardonnay was purchased to accompany lunch and we chatted under the umbrellas on the lawn. Still no rain! Heading back about 1:00 was via Chalk Hill Road back into Windsor and Larkfield. A few spatterings of rain teased the windshields but nothing to worry about. Everyone headed for home from Old Redwood Highway. Lovely day, fun and easy route, and always great people. Thank you Daryl and Linda!! Submitted by: Kimberly Simoni
