From the Director Hello Spring, Riding is here! We have had some wonderful days. If you were able to attend the Coastal Ride or the Mother s Day Mystery Ride I am sure you had an awesome time. The weather was just perfect for a great weekend of riding. I would like to take this time to thank the members of Mid Maine Lewiston for allowing me to attend H.O.T (Harley Officer s Training). I have come back with a list of goals I have set forth for myself as Director. I was able once again to pick up new ideas from other chapters and hope they will have a positive impact on all of us. I am so fortunate to lead a group of wonderful people, and I hope that I am able to make our group, fun, and riding until our butts hurt. I hope over the months to come you will see some of the wonderful results our members learned at H.O.T. If you have not had a chance to check out our Group Photo, please check out our Facebook page. They came out very nice. If you would like to order a 4x6 or 8x10 etc., let me know by the next meeting. These pictures can be cropped and made to your order. I want to thank everyone who came to the group photo; I had a few good laughs with comments behind me. If you are interested in selling raffle tickets please give me a call and I will get some to you. A huge thank you to those who have taken the time on their Saturday to sell some big numbers, it is so appreciated. Every member who has sold one ticket, thank you!!! I hope to see you on a ride soon, personally for me not wishing time to go by fast, riding will begin after June 5 th, when my oldest daughters graduates, my new grandbaby has arrived and my other daughter s 16 th birthday party is done. This is such a busy time of year for all of us, but I have realized to take the pressure off I need to get on my motorcycle and ride. The wind in our face relieves so much stress. So let s ride.

Four MMLHOG members riding the Dragon at Deal's Gap! Kathi Yergin, director (trike) Janis Tanguay, secretary (white ultra) Jerry Yergin, co-safety officer

Scott Tanguay, co-safety officer Riding the DRAGON What s the Dragon? It s Route129 on the border of N Carolina and Tennessee known as Deal s Gap. 11 miles, 318 turns... wow, awesome! And, getting to the Dragon and back has uncounted number of twists, turns, curves, switchbacks and corkscrews going through the Smokey Mountain National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. A bikers dream, oh yeah. We rode all day on a beautiful sunny day, riding 200 miles and ended up back were we started (we didn t plan it that way) in Maggie Valley, NC.

MML Chapter Director Kathi Yergin (white trike), Secretary Janis Tanguay (white ultra), and co-safety officers Jerry Yergin (blue ultra) and Scott Tanguay (brown screaming eagle ultra) rode the Dragon on the way to HOG Officer Training (HOT) in Jacksonville, Florida. Words are hard to describe it, check out the sample of pictures below. Ask any one of us for more info on the Dragon. A few brochures are available. Submitted by Janis Tanguay Kathi Yergin, director (trike) Janis Tanguay, secretary (white ultra) Jerry Yergin, co-safety officer (blue ultra) and Scott Tanguay, co-safety officer (screaming eagle ultra).

STURGIS UPDATE Hog Members, I ve been asked to send you an update about the trip to Sturgis next year. I tried to estimate all the costs for the trip per person. Here s what my first draft looked like. Food + Fuel + Hotel SOLO 4/Room $ 1,400.00 SOLO 2/Room $ 2,050.00 2 UP 4/Room $ 1,300.00 2 UP 2/Room $ 2,000.00 Since then, it seems no one is going to ride two up so I did not include those prices this time. Here is the breakdown and what the totals are. Food is figured at $10 for breakfast, $15 for lunch and $25 for supper. That comes to $ 50.00/day for food per person. Fuel is figured at $4.20/gal with 40 mpg over 2100 miles. That comes to $220.00 plus $30.00 for tolls. Total equals $250.00. Rooms at Sturgis for 4 nights with taxes equals $1132, I figured $150/ night for over the road hotels for six nights, totals $900. Total $2032.00

There will be a truck coming with us pulling a trailer. This will be for carrying spares and various repair items that John said we could have on consignment, as well as room for five people and three bikes. We would need to share the driving chores. The cost of this vehicle would be split between all the people on the trip. Fuel for the truck is diesel at $4.20/gal getting 13mpg equals 161.54 gals with a cost of $678.47 plus the $30 for tolls totaling $708.47. Fixed estimated costs per person are fuel, tolls and food. $ 220.00 - Fuel $ 30.00 - Tolls $ 550.00 - Food $ 800.00 Adding the cost per person for rooms that total $2032.00 depends on how many people are in the room. # in the room Room cost/# Fixed costs Total 1 $ 2032.00 $.800.00 $ 2832.00 2 $ 1016.00 $.800.00 $ 1816.00 3 $ 677.34 $.800.00 $ 1477.34 4 $ 508.00 $.800.00 $ 1308.00 5 $ 406.40 $.800.00 $ 1206.40 6 $ 338.67 $.800.00 $1138.37

Remember there will be an additional cost for the truck and trailer split between those on the trip. If we have 10 people, it would be an additional $70.85/person. # in the room Total TOTAL with # of people on the trip 6=$118.08 8=$88.56 10=$70.85 12=$59.04 1 $ 2832.00 $2950.08 $2920.56 2902.85 $2891.04 2 $ 1816.00 $1934.08 $1904.56 $1886.85 $1875.04 3 $ 1477.34 $1595.42 $1565.90 $1548.19 $1536.38 4 $ 1308.00 $1426.08 $1396.56 $1378.85 $1367.04 5 $ 1206.40 $1324.48 $1294.96 $1277.25 $1265.44 6 $1138.37 $1256.45 $1226.93 $1209.22 $1197.41 I hope these tables don t confuse anyone. My best guess is, if you have two in a room; expect it to cost about $1,900.00 each. With four in a room, expect it to run about $ 1,300.00 per person. I have spoken to Dee in South Dakota. She is the person I am working with to book the hotels and she said we still have time to book the rooms. If you want to join us, we would need a non-refundable deposit. I haven t been told how much that is yet, but I m figuring $ 50.00 should be enough. Remember, keep the shiny side up and we ll see you on the road. Joe Presti Please submit your $50 deposit to Joe ASAP if you would like to go on the Sturgis trip
