Information for Parents/Guardians WIntercamp is a busy event and this may appear daunting when you first arrive on site. The following information will help with the smooth arrival of your young person to the event. What to expect... Hawkhirst is situated in Northumberland approximately 50 miles north west of Newcastle. The centre extends over 70 acres of mainly coniferous forest. Located within 200 square miles of the Kielder Forest, it is surrounded on three sides by the vast expanse of Kielder Water. On Arrival As you arrive on site at Hawkhirst, there is a large drop off car park situated to your left as you drive up the road. Enter the car park at the nearest entrance and follow the traffic team s instructions. You will be directed to the Wintercamp reception from the car park. The speed limit is 10mph on site. Dropping off / Parking If you are just dropping off, let one of the parking attendants know when you arrive, and they will guide you to the specific drop off area. For those that are parking, all vehicles will be parked offsite and you will be provided with directions to our car park a couple of minutes from the centre and then board our shuttle bus back to site. Meeting Point The Wintercamp reception will be clearly sign posted. From here, you will book in, be given a site map and direction to your campsite. What you need prior to arrival Before you arrive at Hawkhirst, please ensure you have the following; 1.Group Leader s name and booking reference 2.Details of any meeting point
Leaving site Please be courteous as you leave the site. There will be many young people walking around as they prepare for the weekend. Therefore, please remember the speed limit is 10mph. A traffic management team will be present please follow the directions given by them to exit the site. Picking up after the event If you are picking up after the event, similar procedures with be in operation.

Turn left towards Chollerford. Turn left after the bridge in Bellingham continuing to follow the signs for Kielder Water. Continue past the Dam, Tower Knowe Visitors Centre, The Calvert Trust and Leaplish Waterside Park. Turn right when you see the signs for Hawkhirst Scout Activity Centre, continue until there is a large visitors car park on your left hand side. Report to reception on arrival. From M6 Leave the M6 at Junction 44. Take exit onto A7 towards Longtown. Turn right onto B6357 towards Canonbie, Newcastleton. Turn right at sign Kielder Water, Kielder Forest. Continue through Kielder village Turn left at Hawkhirst Scout Activity Centre, there is a large visitors car park on your left hand side. Report to reception on arrival. Offsite Car Park: Matthew s Linn Turn right out of Hawkhirst and continue for approximately 1 minute before turning right into the car park.
