Sebastian Baumgardner, President (260) 908-2156 neverheardofhim@hotmail.com February, 2017 President s Corner By: Sebastian Baumgardner This month has already been a very busy month. We currently have a lot of administrative items going on behind the scenes. Our chapter hangar lease is being worked by the lease committee. We are reviewing all our insurance plans and working to make sure we have all the required coverage. The yearly chapter documents are being finalized. There's quite a bit that goes into keeping the chapter on track. The events committee has this year's activities scheduled. Please remember and support our Young Eagles Rallies that are coming up this summer, and our VAA Work Weekends at Oshkosh. We have our Spring VAA Airport Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 29. And then our Memorial Day weekend BBQ on Sunday, May8 th, and a Poker Run for Saturday, June 24 th! Check out the Upcoming Events calendar at the end of this newsletter. We have our annual VAA 37 Chapter Banquet on Saturday, March 11 th, at the St. James Restaurant in Avilla. See the next page for details. I hope to see everyone there! Also, don't forget our excellent once a month Saturday morning breakfast at the hangar! Come on out and invite your friends too! The talents and contributions of our members are what make it all possible. As long as I can remember, everything we have accomplished with our chapter was done in house, not by outside contractors. I want to thank everyone for the help they provide. I ll see you at the hangar for our Chapter meeting at 7pm on Wednesday, Feb. 22! ~ Sebastian

Young Eagles Update By: David and Laramie Resler Our Young Eagle Rallies are just around the corner. Please mark your calendars with the dates for the rallies that will be held at GWB. They are May 6, June 3, and August 26. Hope to see many of you there. It s so exciting to see the smiles on the kid s faces when they return from their flight! And sometimes, the pilots have a big smile too. Thank you for your participation at our Young Eagle Rallies. UPCOMING VAA Work Weekends at OSHKOSH There is a lot to do again this year. The VAA Judges are getting a new building. It will be commercially built by a contractor. We will have some work to do when the building is finished, but it should not be difficult. The Hospitality side of the Red Barn will also be updated. The roof will be redone, the inside ceiling is going to be removed, the building will be made longer, and there will be a new entrance on the side. This will also be done by a contractor. We will also have to finish this building. We are also going to build a new Charging Station. We will be able to start this in April. Maintenance will move it to the new location. The building will be built on 16 by 20 skids. The building will be 16, wide 12 deep with an 8 porch on the front. We will need your help. Our Work Weekends will be: 1. April 21-23, 2. May 19-21, 3. June 23-25. Please come and help us make Oshkosh 2017 the best ever. If you have any questions feel free to contact Mike Blombach, Chairman of Maintenance and Construction at 260-433-5101.
