South Texas HET News A BIG COUNTRY REGIONAL CHAPTER OF THE HUDSON ESSEX TERRAPLANE CLUB Visit us on the Web @ http://south-texas texas-hudson.org OCT 3, 2015 MEET AT THE HIGHLANDER IN BURNET URNET,, T EXAS GOD BLESS AMERICA INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Rodney s Notes Meeting Notes Chapter Chatter 1 2 3 Membership 6 Wanted & For Sale October Meeting 6 8 9 Calendar 9 2016 Big Country Reg 10 12 V O L U M E 5 I S S U E 9 Sep 2015 Anyone interested in a new set of Coker tires? I have a packet of 25 tickets for sale @ $5.00 each. Purchase of these tickets is a host chapter (Dixie Chapter) fund raiser to offset some of the expenses related to producing the 2016 national meeting in Chattanooga, Tn. You do not have to be present to win! Contact me and I will mail them to you or we can meet at the next South Chapter meeting. Registrations for the Waco Big Country 2016 meet has begun and meet chairperson Mark Brians reports some folks have registering with Roberta Dennis for the meet and directly with the Holiday I Inn for lodging. Please be aware, it is important those of us who plan to attend, to book your Hotel rooms now. Doing so reassures hotel management our block of rooms will be filled; lock in the premeet room price. Our September chapter meeting was attended by 11 members. Paul and Elizabeth Thomas got the long distance recognition for driving from the Houston area to attend. This was a good turnout at the Oscar store in Temple, Thanks to everyone. Joe Clark got the front wheels aligned on his 1950 Brougham and he and Karen drove to the first chapter meet trip their car has attended. Mark and Lorraine Brians arrived in their Jet looking and running very good. The seats and door panels on this Jet are very nice and the engine sounded very strong. And my brother and I arrived in my 1954 Hornet sedan. Steve Brookings was unable to attend, but reports a Chapter Treasury balance of $1,564.67. Roberta Dennis also reported through Mark the balance of $1736.00 in the 2016 Regional account. We need the registrations begin to flow to assure 2016 regional expenses are covered. So, please register and book you re lodging soon so that our books will balance. I just returned from my first regional and national meet, and I am very excited about our South Chapter hosting the 2016 regional during April in Waco, Texas! If you are able and willing to help out, please contact me. PAGE 2 September 5, Temple Texas OSCAR STORE Meeting Notes VOLUME 5 ISSUE 9 The September 5 th, meeting of the South Texas chapter of the HET club was called to order at 1pm by President Rodney Lemmon. Rodney asked for a motion to accept the last month s meeting minutes as published in the chapter newsletter. Mark Brians made the motion, Paul Thomas seconded it and a unanimous show of hands followed. Our Treasurer Steve Brookins was unable to attend but forwarded the club treasury report of $1,564.67. Rodney noted the HET national treasurer has contacted him about filing a required IRS document concerning our treasury. Steve will provide that document. (Since our meeting this document was completed and mailed to the national treasurer). Several informational items were shared with the members and the meeting was turned over to Mark Brians for a report on the current status of the 2016 Big Country Regional. Mark went over the current registration status noting receipt of five registrations. He stated that a current stock of meet tee shirts was depleted in the popular sizes. There may be a need to order more tee shirts, but a means to fund that purchase will have to be addressed. Roberta Dennis our meet registrar reports the meet bank account balance is $1736. Mark said the hotel contract blocked a group of rooms at a set rate and that the hotel management is closely watching how registration is progressing. He encouraged members to make hotel reservations now and to also register for the meet. After selling a Hudson theme wall clock at our August meeting, he has created another clock to be auctioned at our banquet. Ken Cates noted that one of the ladies planning to attend this meeting has asked about the availability of quilting shops in the Waco area. Rodney continued the meeting noting the national member chair had contacted him about a chapter member who was not a dues paid member of the national club. Rod noted the requirement that all chapter members be members of the National Club. Our member will be contacted to bring dues current. Rod reminded us that the membership position for our chapter is open. We are fortunate to have volunteers to make our chapter viable. The membership position is a vital need, will you volunteer? To assure those in the Big Country Region have our registration and meet information, Rodney will contact the presidents of each chapter with a request that they relay the meet information and recommendation to register. Also Ken will notify each newsletter editor with a request to publish registration and meet information. Finally, Rod offered those present the opportunity to purchase one or more raffle tickets he received from the Dixie Chapter. These tickets cost $5 each for a chance to win a set of 4 COKER WHITE WALL tires. The raffle is a fund raiser to offset the cost of the 2016 National meet. At 1:37 pm Rod asked for a motion to adjourn, Rick Heeke made the motion and Yolanda Cates seconded it. Respectfully Submitted by Kenneth Cates, Secretary Approved By, Rodney Lemmon, President

VOLUME 5 ISSUE 9 PAGE 3 Chapter Chatter: South Texas Chapter on Facebook https:www.facebook.com/sthetclub On a recent Sunday afternoon, Yolanda an I were on our way to a local restaurant for lunch. Being a vagabond, I took a route not usually traveled. About the half way point to our destination I spied what appeared to be an antique 30-40s car on one of the many too tired to sell at a dealership, car lots. As we got closer I thought that shape is familiar. The truth is it was a indeed familiar, it was a Hudson 112 2 door sedan. Wonder of wonders, I have lived in Waco Texas for nearly 30 years and have NEVER seen a Hudson automobile for sale at a car lot before. This car is pictured below. While I took pictures, Yolanda attempted to find contact information, telephone number something that would allow us contact the owner Nothing was to be found! So, although I have not returned to try and find an owner, After viewing the pictures I shared, Mark Brians sent me the following reply: That car has been on Craigslist and was on E-bay some months back. It was out towards Mason before. Looks like a good solid car. Back then the price was in the 12k range. I hope to get out to the car lot and find the owner. This car appears to have very nice original interior and a decent external appearance.

TECH TIP Rodney Lemmon A small tech tip for those of us that have AM radios running on the 6 volt Positive ground system. From what I have learned the most common failure with this old style of radio is the vibrator failing. I assumed this to be the case with the 54 Radio I am dealing with as there was no buzzing sound coming from it when turned on. So, I ordered a vibrator from Antique Electronic supply at a cost of $33.90 including shipping and was able to remove the old one from below the dash. Just that easy! Radio now plays very strong now and receive lots of nifty AM stations. This vibrator is solid state and does not make that old Buzzing sound like the OEM kind.
