Attachment 2: Analysis of Map Content in the RTA Ride Guide Page 1 The Transit Coalition has analyzed the graphical layout and design of the published bus route maps in the RTA Ride Guide. RTA should consider our suggestions which should be included in the January, 2010 Ride Guide. Riverside Downtown Terminal Boarding Diagram: 1. North/south cross streets such as Market Street should be included in the map for 2. The boarding diagram page in the Ride Guide should be placed in a section before the route schedules and maps. Perris Multi Modal Transit Center: 1. RTA should consider illustrating a boarding diagram for the new Perris Multi Modal Transit Center with connecting cross streets. Bus Stop Locations in Downtown Riverside: 1. RTA should add a detailed map of the Downtown Riverside area and illustrate all specific bus stop locations within the area. 2. A copy of this map should be included on the RTA System Map. Route 1: 1. The SR-91 and SR-60/I-215 freeways should be included in the map for Route 3: 1. The dotted alternative routing should be solid since all runs serve the North Main Corona Metrolink Station. 2. With the opening of the parking structure at the North Main Corona Metrolink Station, references to the off-site Metrolink parking lots should be removed. Route 7: 1. A few streets, served by Route 7 in the downtown area of Lake Elsinore are not marked. The street names should be added. 2. The downtown area of Lake Elsinore should include a detailed map inset illustrating specific bus stop locations. 3. The southern portion of the route map is incorrect and can be very confusing. For example, the I-15 freeway should cross under the Clinton Keith Rd segment, not Catt Rd. Also, Catt Rd branches north from Clinton Keith Rd, not south. These should be corrected. 4. The destinations at Clinton Keith Rd and the I-15 freeway are not illustrated on the route map; however the destinations are illustrated on the Route 8 map. Those destinations should be placed on the Route 7 map. 5. The Malaga and Mission Trail transfer point is missing its transfer point icon and table of connecting bus routes. Those should be added.
Attachment 2: Analysis of Map Content in the RTA Ride Guide Page 2 Route 8: 1. The destinations printed at Clinton Keith Rd and the I-15 freeway should be removed and placed on the Route 7 map since this line no longer serves the area. 2. At the Canyon Estates Dr loop north of Wal-Mart, arrows should illustrate the direction of travel around the loop. Route 10: 1. The Magnolia & Elizabeth transfer point is missing its transfer point icon and table of connecting bus routes. Noticeably, the connection to Route 20 is missing. These features should be included. 2. Arrows should indicate the direction of travel along the one-way segments and loops. Route 11: 1. At the Moreno Valley Mall loop and the N St. segment, arrows should indicate the direction of travel. Route 12: 1. The SR-91 freeway should be included in the map for Route 13: 1. The SR-91 and SR-60/I-215 freeways and other major streets should be included in the map for 2. The typeface marking Gould St. as eastbound only is very small and may be difficult to catch; the text should be slightly larger and arrows should be included. Route 14: 1. Parts of the icon marking the Riverside Medical Center are cut off by a road segment. The icon should be placed "above" the road. 2. Arrows should indicate the direction of travel along the turnaround loops. 3. The SR-91 freeway segment should be extended to the SR-60/I-215 for Route 15: travel at the La Sierra Metrolink Station and Galleria at Tyler turnaround loops. Route 16: 1. The map should be rotated or redesigned so that Moreno Valley is placed at the bottom of the map and Riverside is placed at the top. This will make the map easier to read and interpret. 2. The SR-91 and SR-60/I-215 freeways and other major streets should be included in the map for Route 18: 1. The SR-60 freeway should be included in the map for Route 19: 1. The Timepoint 4 icon should be placed over the route line to maintain design consistency, not at its side. 2. The label RCC/Moreno Valley appears to have two points on the map and may cause confusion. The text should be moved further away from the medical center icon and closer to Timepoint 4.
Attachment 2: Analysis of Map Content in the RTA Ride Guide Page 3 Route 20: 1. The deviated segment into RCRMC should include the driveway portion into RCRMC between Nason and the RCRMC bus stop. Route 21: 1. Omnitrans Route 82 does not serve the Country Village Country Club at Timepoint 8; however, the map illustrates this connection. Omnitrans Route 82 has connecting stops at Mulberry & Cherry Avenues and Mulberry & Marlay Avenues. This should be corrected. 2. Jurupa Avenue and Cherry Avenue should be included on the route map for added 3. The following instructions should be added to the map for clarification since the San Sevaine & Mission Blvd serves as the northern terminal with a looped extension into San Bernardino County: Passengers needing to board southbound Route 21 between San Sevaine & Mission Blvd and San Bernardino County should board northbound buses and remain on the bus at the San Sevaine & Mission Blvd time point. Route 22: 1. In Riverside, major streets and the SR-91 freeway should be included in the map for Route 23: presented more to scale for 2. The deviated routing of the special shorttrip school runs to Vista Murrieta High School combined into the main route map may cause confusion in determining the main route structure. We suggest splitting this route segment from the main map to a separate inset map. Route 23 (continued): 3. The destination labeled Murrieta Springs Plaza needs to be moved from the Wal- Mart area to its correct location at the northwest corner of Murrieta Hot Springs and Madison. 4. The one-way segments between Timepoints 5 and 6 should be marked with arrows. The one-way segment via Whitewood should be labeled as "Northbound only" and the Alta Murrieta segment be labeled as "Southbound only". 5. The destination labeled as Library at Winchester and Margarita needs to be moved to Timepoint 3 at the County Center. 6. The Old Town Temecula portion should include a detailed map inset illustrating specific bus stop locations and connections to Greyhound buses. Route 24: travel for the alternative route deviation. 2. The Meadows Pkwy street name between Campanula and Temecula Pkwy is not marked. That should be corrected. 3. The Old Town Temecula portion should include a detailed map inset illustrating specific bus stop locations and connections to Greyhound buses. 4. The destination Temecula Middle School should be removed from the map as Route 24 no longer serves this destination and is currently far from the bus line. 5. Due to its vast size, the specific location of the Pechanga Resort bus stop should be identified on the map. Route 25: 1. The SR-91, SR-60/I-215, and I-10 freeways and other major streets should be included in the map for
Attachment 2: Analysis of Map Content in the RTA Ride Guide Page 4 Route 27: presented more to scale for Route 29: 1. The route map should be presented more to scale for Route 30: 1. The one-way arrows along the bidirectional segments of the route can be very confusing and should be removed. Route 31: travel for the loop around the Hemet Valley Mall. 2. The transfer point to Pass Transit buses at Sun Lakes Village has been moved and should be corrected on the map. Route 32: travel along the alternative routing segments. 2. The typefaces for the destination labels marked as San Jacinto HS and Monte Vista MS are very small and should be enlarged. Route 33: 1. The following instructions should be added to the map for clarification since the Hemet Valley Mall serves as the western terminal with a looped extension to the Wal- Mart Supercenter: Route 35: 1. The transfer point to Pass Transit buses at Sun Lakes Village has been moved and should be corrected on the map. Route 40: travel at the Malaga & Mission Trail transfer point. 2. Additional streets serving Sun City Center area should be included on the map for Route 41: travel at the Mead Valley Community Center turnaround point. Route 42: 1. Some of the one-way loops are missing arrows indicating the direction of travel. Arrows should be added for the loop near Timepoints 4 and 5. Route 49: 1. The following instructions should be added to the map for clarification since the San Sevaine & Mission Blvd serves as the western terminal with a looped extension into San Bernardino County: Route 50: Passengers needing to board eastbound Route 49 between San Sevaine & Mission Blvd and San Bernardino County should board westbound buses and remain on the bus at the San Sevaine & Mission Blvd timepoint. 1. The arrow printed on Market St between 12 th and 14 th Streets should be removed since this segment appears to be bidirectional. 2. The Hall of Justice and Riverside County Courthouse labels on the map need to be switched to reflect their correct locations. 3. All juror and public parking garages and lots should be added to the route map. 4. Since this line caters jurors serving at the local courthouse, a label illustrating the juror fare policy should be added below the map. Route 51/53: 1. Routes 51 and 53 should share the same map on the Ride Guide. 2. The UCR Bear Runner Shuttle schedule should be printed under on the Route 51 Crest Cruiser schedule in the Ride Guide. 3. Arrows should indicate the direction of travel. Route 57: 1. The map has a stop marked on Margarita Road which is not served by the route. That mark should be removed. Route 61: travel in the Sun City area. Route 74: presented more to scale with additional major streets for Route 79: 1. With the opening of the parking structure at the North Main Corona Metrolink Station, all references to off-site Metrolink parking and hopper service should be removed. 2. The Lake Elsinore section of the map should be presented more to scale with better clarification of its specific stop location. 3. The route map and schedule should Route 208 & 210 (continued): 2. These route maps and schedules should 3. The following instructions should be added to the maps for clarification: Passengers needing to board outbound Route 208/210 at Riverside City Hall or the Riverside County Administrative Center should board inbound buses and remain on the bus at the Downtown Terminal. Routes 212 & 217: 1. These route maps and schedules should Route 794: 1. The listed one way fare of $3.75 is incorrect. The Orange County Transportation Authority reports that the one way fare on this line is $4.50. 2. The bus line no longer serves the Galleria at Tyler. The north terminal is now the La Sierra Metrolink Station. 3. The stops in Orange County should have an inset map illustrating all designated Route 794 bus stop locations. The street names in Orange County should also be properly labeled. Routes 208 & 210: 1. On May 4, 2009, Routes 208 and 210 began serving more locations in downtown Riverside, however this change was not reflected on their route maps. All northbound trips stop at the County Administration Center and City Hall. These designated stops should be added to both the Route 208 & 210 maps.
