MINUTES SISD SCHOOL HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL SOCORRO ISD DISTRICT SERVICE CENTER October 25, 2017 MEMBERS PRESENT *Please see attached I. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 8:36 a.m. by Rachel Tarango. II. Approval of the Minutes Beverly Mathis motioned the approval of the minutes for August 16, 2017, council voted and the minutes were approved. III. BASICS NAMI El Paso Ms. Alejandra Valdez provided an overview of the NAMI El Paso Basics program which will be taking place free to parents at the Socorro ISD District Service Center October 30 November 15 and November 2 November 16. The BASICS class is a free 6-session course for adult parents and caregivers of children and adolescents formally or not yet diagnosed with a mental health condition. These may include ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum, depression, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, and other mental health conditions. Caregivers of children and adolescents affected by a mental health condition teach this 2½-hour course. NAMI provides advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental health conditions can build better lives. IV. Election of SHAC Officers The SHAC nominated and approved SHAC officer positions as follows: President Francisco Torres Vice President Beverly Mathis Secretary Catherine Kearney V. New Business Ms. Shelly Chenausky announced the SISD Farmers Market taking place on Sunday, November 5, 2017, Mr. Albert Hernandez announced the P.E. Volunteer Observations and requested volunteers that were interested in being part of conducting the observations to please sign up. VI. NEXT MEETING February 21, 2018 Rooms C&D at 8:00 am VII.
