REVIEW OF TRIP TO KENYA Egerton University, Nakuru, a 3 hour drive from Nairobi 30 minutes from the Nakuru. Transport: For safety and security reasons the WPO strongly recommend that all delegations hire a driver with their hire car and do not hire a self drive vehicle in Kenya as the driving habits are very erratic. Transport will be provided for collection and drop off to and from airport. Security: On arrival in Kenya visitors will have to become used to the high level of security entering hotels, shopping centres, colleges etc. The process is very similar to that experienced at airports and creates a very secure environment within compounds. Foreign visitors need to be sensible in their movements. Visitors should not travel from town to town after dark so all flights arriving in Nairobi should be no later than lunchtime, otherwise you will have to stay overnight in Nairobi at the Tune Hotel at your own expense. Additional security measures that will be in place - All security escoerts will be provided by the Kenya police to the group. Egerton College has 3 secured entrances and a perimeter fence. It is a very comfortable environment and Egerton are reviewing additional security requirements for the WPC. PREPERATION OF PLOUGHING FIELDS The farm spans across 2,000 acres and the condition of the land will largely depend on the rain before the contest. It is loamy soil and a short video can be found on www.worldploughing.org. The grass for the contest was planted in April 2016 and the grass will be Chloris Gayana Grass. The ground is reasonably flat but quite un-level and will need considerable cultivation to improve. The fields are not ploughed they are eco tilled. There are also many cow paths due to the passage of livestock through the grounds. Early Practice will be available close to the competition grounds. Prices will be E150 (booked before 1st June 2017) E200 (booked after 1st June 2017)However, these prices may be reduced. Contact Juliet Wamiri: +254 722 621 558 info@kpo.co.ke Half of the price for early practice to be paid before 1st July Ploughing will be challenging and plots will not all be the same so the expression the luck of the draw will definitely be true in Kenya. The practice and ploughing ground will be alongside and located approximately 3 km from the accommodation and Marshalling Yard.
