DAY 2. YORKSHIRE AND THE DALES Broughton Hall, Yorkshire Travel by either train or helicopter (supplement) to Leeds whereby we will convey you through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. The scenery as you drive deeper into the countryside the vistas become more and more wild. A truly marvellous experience. Our visitors will enjoy a short journey by steam train on a privately owned railway in their own carriage with afternoon tea and refreshments and will then be conveyed by vintage Rolls Royce to Broughton Hall near Skipton. This beautiful hall is the home of the Tempest Family since 1097. Our guests will be greeted by Roger Tempest, the heir to a legacy which stretches back unbroken for millennia. He will treat our guests to a private tour of the house and will explain its history and importance in the surrounding area. He will also provide a signed letter of proof of our guests introduction. The estate is run as a business he will be able to show how a historic estate and hall can be successful in 21st century. We suggest that our guests stay at the Hall itself as it is the perfect place from which to explore the surrounding area and all the events Dickins & Hawkes have to offer.
DAY 3. YORKSHIRE AND THE DALES Based at Broughton Hall A day of relaxation in the countryside. Firstly a visit from the local Hunt. The spectacle of Huntsmen on horseback dressed in their hunting pink jackets riding across the grounds with the hounds by their side is a vision many visitors never get to see and is a great opportunity for photographs. We follow this with a visit to a local falconry to see the amazing owls, eagles and falcons. These birds in flight are magnificent and we will have the opportunity to have them fly to us! Whilst at the Estate our visitors may also experience off road driving in the newest Range Rovers, enjoy tuition in clay pigeon shooting or be taught the intricacies of fly-fishing.
DAY 4. YORKSHIRE AND THE DALES York & York Minister An hours drive to york with a private tour of the Minster. This marvellous building is the largest Gothic cathedral in Europe and is second only to Westminster in its importance as a place of worship. We will have a private visit with blue band guide including a fascinating hidden tour which will take us into parts of this magnificent edifice to which few people are given access. We also would like to take our guests to visit the ancient walled city and Monk Bar and Micklegate Bar. Here they will learn the history and importance of these walls in the past turbulent times of Britain from the rule of Richard III through to Henry VII. A truly educational visit including an excellent exhibition.
DAY 5. YORKSHIRE AND THE DALES Carlton Towers Drive to The extraordinarily impressive Estate of Carlton Towers. This magnificent building stands on the site which can be traced back to The Domesday Book in 1086. Parts of the present building were designed jointly by the architect of the Houses Of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. The home of Gerald Fitzalan Howard, the brother of Edward Fitzalan Howard the 18th Duke of Norfolk and the head of one of the oldest Catholic families in Britain. At Carlton our guests will be greeted by Lord and Lady Fitzalan Howard and given a private tour of this staggeringly beautiful and imposing house. Their generosity is an integral part of the Dickins & Hawkes experience and our guests will be able to choose between etiquette training or instruction in the culinary arts at the Carlton Towers cookery school. We again recommend staying here in the beautifully appointed bedrooms, as this will allow our guests to experience the lovely grounds of the estate.
