Investigative Report #8 More New Members / Back On The Base / Another UFO Excursion Date: September 19, 1999 - Report Written: October 26, 1999 Our 7 th excursion was on Saturday, September 19 th. This was another trip to acquaint another 2 new members of the investigative team to the Camp Hero area. The 4 of us would not split up during this trip. We did our usual tour of the entrances to the area including a little ride through the community adjacent to Camp Hero that we have less-than-affectionately dubbed "The Village of the Damned". We started out our trip by checking out Old Montauk Highway by car. After seeing that the road was still unobstructed (a) (by strange woodpiles [Report #1 (b)] or other means), we proceeded to the main entrance of the base. The main gate area seemed to look just as it did 2 weeks earlier. We then checked out the "Senior Citizens' Center". (c) The "center" was deserted as usual with no signs of any recent activity. We then did a short tour of "The Village of the Damned". The air of strangeness of course lingered as we drove through. We pointed out the pitiful excuse of a "playground", the various locked shacks, a fenced-off area, and the proximity of the houses to the perimeter fence of the base to the new members. After our little tour, we decided to exit the neighborhood. As we drove out on the only road, we had to stop because of some kids playing in the street. The group of kids -- consisting of boys and girls of various ages -- were strangely enough all blonde-haired and blue-eyed. Some sat, some stood, and some sat on bikes in the middle of the road oblivious to our waiting car. When they finally noticed us, they parted and allowed us to pass. When we got past the group, a boy of about 12 years-of-age rode up alongside our car and began to shout out, "Restricted Area! Restricted Area!" Why would a kid so young ever think of shouting something like that at a group of complete strangers? A warning, a joke, or a plea for help? Strange spooky place, this neighborhood. We proceeded to show the new members the Camp Hero ballfield area. Nothing different here on this day. We drove to the lighthouse and parked the car. We walked to the Fisherman's Entrance and down Old Montauk Highway. We pointed out the usual: the old shack, the parking lot, the strange antenna, and all that other good stuff. We walked further down the road and saw a spot that looked like 1

it may have been a path at one time. We pushed through the overgrowth and came to somewhat of a clearing. Here we found another concrete manhole that had the iron handles on the lid sawed off. (a) On our next time out, we will try to pop the lid off and see what lies beneath. It may be just another fire hydrant shut-off valve. But we did not see any fire hydrants near by. Lying several feet away was an old utility pole that seems to have been here for sometime (b). (a) (b) We went back to the road and proceeded down Old Montauk Highway towards the Southwest entrance. When we got near the entrance, we came across a man holding a dog's leash. He looked at us then slipped through the hole in the gate and walked into the base. We continued on towards the woods trail and came across 2 women and a young girl. They explained that their dog had run off and they were looking for her. They asked us if we could keep an eye out for a yellow Labrador that answered to the name 'Amy'. We said we would and continued on. We then went to the edge of the woods trail and started down it towards the Beast Bunker. When we got there, I wanted to show the new members the hole in the wall that we found 2 weeks earlier at the entrance with the semi-circular overhang [Report #7 (a)]. To my surprise, the hole had since been cemented over (b). I am curious as to who would patch the hole. I guess it had to be the New York State Parks Department or the people that I believe are cleaning up the area when no one is looking. We then circled around the bunker to the entrance that had the exposed pipes and conduits running beneath the ground. When we examined the pipes, we noticed that there was no cool dry air blowing out from the bunker [Report #7] like there had been 2 weeks earlier. We also noticed that there was some debris lying nearby that had not been there before (c). The garbage consisted of some wood, metal plates, a small gate, and part of some ventilation shafting. Can people still insist that there is no activity going on here? We then decided to head back up the trail to the road. Waiting at the edge of the trail on Old Montauk Highway was the group that was looking for the dog including the man with the leash. The little girl was crying. One of the women asked us how far down the trail we had gone and if we had seen 'Amy'. We told them "no" but we would continue to keep our eyes peeled. We started back 2

towards the lighthouse. When we got to the Southwest entrance, we decided that looking for a little girl's lost dog was reason enough to justify our being on the base. We slipped through the hole in the fence and proceeded up the dirt road. This was the first time that any of us had entered the base at this location. A few hundred feet up the road, we came upon an asphalt road (a). We could go straight up the road but figured that would only lead us into the heart of the base where security would most likely be tighter. We made a right and followed the road in that direction. Several hundred feet down the road, we came to a building that had several tall utility poles near it (b). The dish was nearby so we snapped a picture of it from an angle that we had not seen before (c). The building had the customary 'Hazardous Area - No Trespassing' sign stenciled on one of its walls. Near the building was a concrete slab that had several conduits coming out of it that were cut even with the slab. In these conduits appeared to be several old lead telephone cables. We entered the building and snooped around a bit. This building was in shambles and appeared to be a power and communications center at one time. The walls had many electrical boxes (d) on them. And the floor tiles lifted up in spots to reveal conduits beneath. One wall had mounted on it an old telephone cross-connection box that was capable of handling several hundred phone lines (e). Perhaps this was the central location that delivered electric and telephone service to the rest of the base. We poked around a bit and then left. (d) (e) We walked back down the road to the Southwest entrance. When we got there, we again saw the group of people that were looking for their dog on the other side of the gate. The child was silent and sat on the ground staring at us. The woman who had talked to us earlier just stared and said nothing. In fact, none of them said anything. They just stared. We walked past them and headed back toward the lighthouse. What was that all about? Didn't they have better things to do then just stand there and wait for us to emerge from the base? Didn't they have a dog to look for? Did I mention they all had blonde hair? 3

On the way back to the lighthouse, we decided to walk along the beach. We found nothing along the water that we hadn't seen before so we called it a day. Later that night, the group of us was hanging out on the deck of our house out there. I was sitting with my back to the Moon, which was low on the horizon. While talking to my friend who was facing the Moon, he interrupted and said "what-the-hell is that?" As I turned to look over my shoulder towards the Moon, I saw a bright flash out of the corner of my eye. Turning to look at the Moon, I saw nothing unusual. My friend stated that what he had saw was the strangest thing he had ever seen in the sky. The following excerpt is from his report describing the event: UFO SIGHTING The following is an eyewitness account of an unknown celestial event. The approximate duration of the event was 6 seconds. Located closer to the Moon than any star or planet visible with the naked eye, there existed a swelling yellow light which was about twice the size of the standard point of light produced by a star or planet. To give a precise location; the object appeared near the Southwest hemisphere of the Moon which was dark at the time. The Moon was in its last quarter stage. After 2-to-3 seconds of observation, the light began to become animated. First, the light flared up to about 4 times its previous size. Next, the light shrank and became red. At that point, the red light shrank at a very fast rate. The sudden minimizing of size and the lack of a streak or trail gave the impression that the object -- which produced the light -- jettisoned away from my position. Coupled with Edwin Hubble's discovery that light appears red when moving away from an observer, I believe that it is highly possible that the object sped off. End of event. Well I am glad I'm not the only one. In summary, the days events: 2 new members acquainted with the area more evidence that the people in "The Village of the Damned" are a little strange another manhole discovered evidence of activity near the Beast Bunker a little more knowledge of the layout of the base, and another sighting in the night sky of something we can't explain. We have 2 more trips to the area planned for November. Until then, keep asking questions. Copyright 2000 - Valentine's Designs 4
