PAGE 2 SPRING 2015 Spring Brush Collection - Call for an appointment by April 24 Benner Township will be conducting its Spring On Call brush collection. To schedule a brush pick up, please call the office at 355-1419 no later than April 24th for an appointment. Guidelines for brush collection are: *Brush must be piled with cut ends of limbs in the same direction towards the street. *Limbs must be cut to be able to be fed into the chipper. Limbs larger than 4 inches in diameter will not be collected. *Do not tie brush in bundles. *Stumps, old firewood, construction material, thorn bushes, grasses, vines and plant waste will not be picked up. *Maintenance crews will not enter private property. *Crews will spend no more than 20 minutes at one property. If your pile is too large to be chipped in 20 minutes, please make other arrangements. *Do not pile brush in front of or block fire hydrants or storm drains. *This collection is for trimming of bushes and trees, not for tree removal or site clearing. Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event Centre County Solid Waste Authority 238-7005 253 Transfer Road Friday, May 1st 10:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2nd 8:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. Spring Creek Watershed Clean Up Saturday - April 25th The annual Spring Creek Watershed Clean-Up will be held on Saturday, April 25th. Anyone wishing to help out should come to the Township Building (1224 Buffalo Run Road) Saturday morning (8 a.m.) for glove and bag supplies. If you are aware of an area that needs cleaned up or want to volunteer please call Genie Robine at 355-2530. Attention High School Students If you are in need of community service hours, here is an opportunity to get some. All volunteers are invited to a Thank You! picnic lunch sponsored by ClearWater at the Spring Creek Park after the Clean up. Hot dogs and snacks will be provided. Spring Bulk Pick Up May 18 22 On Your Regular Trash Day The purpose of Crossroads is to keep you informed about the issues facing Benner Township during this critical Crossroads in our development. We hope to inspire you to get involved in the Township that surrounds you. Benner Township Municipal Building 1224 Buffalo Run Road (814) 355-1419 (814) 355-1448 (Zoning) (814) 355-0719 (FAX) www.bennertownship.org Proud of our past, focusing on our future. Please follow the guidelines provided in your trash bill or a copy of the guidelines can be viewed at: www.crcog.net/refuse Organics Recycling Survey We want to hear what you think. Are you interested in organic recycling? This would include yard trimmings, grass clippings and food scraps. These items account for 40 to 60% of waste that goes to the landfill. Take our survey at www.crcog.net/organicsrecycling

SPRING 2015 PAGE 3 Road Projects Planned The tentative 2015 township road projects are as follows: *Pipe replacement projects on Barns Lane (at the intersection of Rock Road), on Rock Road, and Big Hollow Road. *Resurfacing approximately 5,300 feet of Purdue Mt. Road, as well as patching several other areas and improving drainage. Several other roads, if funds remain, will be tar and chipped. Projects could be added or scaled back depending on final bid prices. Vandalism - Costs you $ If you see it, report it. Take a look at the pictures below. Someone thought that it would be fun and cool to use some township signs for target practice. Their little exercise of vandalism just cost the tax payers of Benner Township $218.00 plus labor to replace them. Pretty cool huh? These stunts result in senseless spending of tax money that could be better spent maintaining roads, our township parks, or our equipment. If you see acts of vandalism taking place, report it. Incidents should be reported to the State Police Rockview Barracks at 355-7545. Construction Zones. Slow Down! Give Them a BRAKE. Spring time signals the beginning of road repairs and construction. While it is easy to daydream on a beautiful day, please pay special attention to road signage that will alert you to road workers in the area. STOP means STOP. It doesn t mean to simply slow down and go out around where work is taking place. If it were safe for you to go out around, we wouldn t have employees directing traffic. It is our goal to get you on your way as quickly as possible. Please be patient. The improvements and maintenance taking place is for the traveling public. Unfortunately, it can t be done at night when there is less traffic. Keep our employees safe by obeying work zone signage. Traffic violations double in work zones. No Parking & Tow Away Zones Residents over the past several weeks/months may have noticed the installation of No Parking and/or Tow Away Zone signs installed along certain roads in the Township. We are asking for your cooperation in adhering to these regulatory signs. Vehicles parked in the areas designated are subject to ticketing and/or towing. This has become necessary for the safety of pedestrians, vehicular traffic, emergency personnel and property. Ordinance 124 can be viewed on the Township s website at www.bennertownship.org

Crossroads Benner Township 1224 Buffalo Run Road PRESORTED STANDARD U.S. POSTAGE PAID STATE COLLEGE, PA PERMIT NO. 213 ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED Summer Park & Rec. Summer Park and Recreation is scheduled for June 22nd through July 31st for children ages 5 through 12. Children need to be 5 by June 1 and no older than 12 by June 1. Camp entrance fees this year are $35 per child for Benner Township residents and $125 per child for non-residents. Camp registration forms will be available to download on the Township s website www.bennertownship.org in May. If you don t have the ability to download documents, please call the Township Building at 355-1419 and we will see that one is sent to you. To assist in planning, we are asking that registrations be returned to the township by June 5th. Need a permit? Looking to begin a Spring building project? Whether you are putting in a pre-made storage shed, erecting a new sign, building a new house, erecting a garage, or building an addition to your home, you will probably need a permit. If you are unsure if you need a permit, consider calling the Township office before you begin. The Township s website has permit applications available to download and print. (www.bennertownship.org - look under supplemental at the top of the main page) The Township can take up to thirty days to process a permit, but in a lot of cases, a Zoning Permit can be processed in just a few days! If a building permit is required for your project, applications and documents should be dropped off at the township office for pick up by the Township s Building Code Official for review. Feel free to contact the Township at (814) 355-1448 for any questions you may have concerning permitting and fees.
