From your Chapter Director! Rain, rain go away so we may ride today. Riding season is just around the corner, I will not be at the Dinner Social this month but Rob will be there to say Hi. We are going to the Multi-Chapter Gathering at Toppenish. Our plans are to leave Spokane about 4:00 pm on Friday the 6th of April, Stay the night at the Legend Casino hotel. Price of room is $98 a night, make sure you say, you are with GWRRA to get that price. If weather is good we will be riding bikes so I can visit some Washington State counties. If raining we will driving a car. So, come and join Rob and I. Don t forget after the Chapter Gathering on the 21st, we will be having Maintenance Day at our shop, (Rob (509) 919-0907) and for the gals in our group we are planning to attend the Custer s Spring Antique and Collectors Show at the Spokane County Fair Grounds. Cost to get in is $6.00 Hope to see you all at the April gathering. LoriAnn Robertson And never ride faster than your Guardian Angel can fly.

FROM THE DESK OF YOUR ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTOR Welcome to April and it s time to RIDE!! YAY This month our Dinner Social is at the Harvester Restaurant in Spangle. I enjoyed our last dinner there and the Onion Rings were wonderful. As LoriAnn has mentioned, the Multi-Chapter Gathering is this month in Toppenish. I ve been to one of them with Steve and it was fun, but the ride down was just a little chilly but Steve and I survived. Not sure if I will be there, will just have to wait and see. Our Chapter Gathering is back at the Golden Corral this month. Last month I notified ID-H that in May, we were having a group riding class and they were invited to attend. Originally, ID-H was going to join us this month, but this would be better. Food, Fun and Education. And then, maybe a group ride afterwards. Who knows Got the mods done that I wanted to get done on my ride this year. Heavy Duty spring installed on the Axillary Shock, new trailer hitch, cleaned up some wiring, installed a new switch panel and a digital volt meter. While I lost the left fairing pocket, I m thinking I ll be happy with the modification. It s clean and looks good. I also changed the rear tires, went from 205/60R16 to a 205/55R16 to gain back an inch that was lost when the previous owner installed custom wheels and went from a 15 to a 16 rim. This was a factor to bottoming out of the bike. The spring helped as well. Finally got to take a good ride and test the systems out. Was very happy with the adjustments. Tried hard to bottom out and it didn t happen. My GL2WAY CB can receive but when I Transmit, they can hear it key up but there is a tone on it. Need to find out what s going on there. Also, looks like I ll have to take the CB controls apart to clean the PTT switch. Was great to hear what the other riders in the group were discussing. I m one step closer to where I want to be. This month we are having our Maintenance Day. As some of you may know, I do sell the Amsoil Products, so if you need oil and filter, get in touch with me and I ll get it here. Well, that s about it for now. So, Ride Safe Everyone Chuck Grimm Assistant Chapter Director, WA-N

LET S BECOME FAMILIAR What most police officers will tell you. Is that the first thing they hear at the seen of an automobile/motorcycle accident is I did not see it! This is brought on by a number of issues like blind spots, inattentiveness, distractions, motion blindness (which I had not heard of before), and a host of other reasons the motorist was not seen. Through my reading, and presentations, I have found people will see and hear things that are familiar to them. Therefore I try to make motorcyclists more familiar to other drivers. In that manner they will see us when they are not even looking for us. This is just like when you are driving down the road daydreaming and out of nowhere you see an old car just like your first car, or you see another bike, or something else that reminds you of something, or something that you are interested in! These things just seem to appear out of nowhere. That is why I would like all of us to become familiar to others who share the road with us. We can do this by doing things that make us more likeable, and memorable. Therefore, we become the ones that pop into their site! Some of the things that come to mind are talking to people at rest areas, restaurants, and other places where there are people who look at our bikes. Let them look at the bikes, and if they make a comment about them, talk to them. This is the way conversations begin. If a kid is interested in the bike, all the better. They have a habit of pointing us out to their parents while traveling down the road. These things are easy to do. Just like being a good neighbor! Riding season is beginning, so let s become more visible by becoming more familiar, like that memory that seems to appear out of the past. Ways of doing this is to become more visible on the road by wearing bright clothing, riding in the line of sight, driving courteous, and remember to wave at the kids while passing! Your Motorist Awareness Coordinator Carl Maier

Notes from your MEC Are YOU Having Fun Yet? One of the tasks the MEC is asked to accomplish is planning FUN things for the chapter at each meeting and gathering. I read the letter each month from our National Membership Enhancement Directors, Larry and Penny Anthony. They are always talking about the GWRRA goals of friendship, sharing, including everyone in our chapter. We all would agree with those goals. Sometimes we hear someone feels left out. When that happens call me, I can always use volunteers. I realize in groups we drift toward those we feel we have most in common with. Sometimes we hold ourselves out and isolate ourselves. Don t let that happen. Chapter N has a wide variety of characters and we need each and everyone to be complete. We have a poker run coming up in one of our rides this summer. If you have experience with poker runs please give me a call. I could use your help. Step up and get involved and you will see there are so many of us who will appreciate your input. We ve all heard the saying, It takes a village and it really does take all of us to make the Chapter work well. We have our chapter ride to Montana coming up and I know Steve has some rides planned. Then it s Spring Fling in Tri Cities in May, then it s on to Cashmere. Lots of coming events. I attended a District Meeting last week in Buckley, WA. The Consensus of the group as to the Question: What do you think will bring up membership in GWRRA? was the same. That is why National wants to get back to more riding and fun in chapter events. Membership is dropping. We have to remember what GWRRA offers. Fun, Safety, Classes, Friendships for a lifetime. You don t get that just riding by yourself. Carl and I look forward to a busy summer with lots of riding, lots of fun with each of you. Be Safe Be Smart!!! Respectfully, Kaye Maier, MEC

Happy Spring 2018 everyone. This year GWRRA changed things as you know. My role became a bit more formal, but still casual. What is biker casual? I m sure used to business casual. I will be coordinating 3 after Chapter Gathering rides this summer. These are posted on our calendar with the actual route still to be determined. I will be happy to take ride suggestions from anyone, no need to commit yourself to being the Road Captain for your suggested ride. I just want some new ideas on scenic and or curvy roads!! We will review the standard rules of the road, Lead and Tail and route at the beginning of each ride. We will emphasize group riding rules for these group rides. Yes that means station keeping to use a Navy term. We will work this summer to keep our ride groups contiguous so we don t give openings for vehicles to try to join our group. Wing World has had a few great articles on just this thing, so may be a good time to pull out the archive from last year. I ll try to get a copy and bring to the Gatherings. This is going to be great fun. In conjunction with this we will also be outlining a new ride challenge. Stand by in the April Gathering for more. This will be great FUN and will replace our prior mileage challenge. Stay tuned, I am looking forward to riding with you all this year.
