Hello everyone, Well another month has just about gone by again, and boy have we been busy. Janice and I have been to E-2, L, and T-2's meetings to promote our chicken and noodle dinner. We also went on X-2's all day ride to Shawnee State Forest, and boy what a ride. Al Hoffman did a fantastic job of putting that ride together, and there were no problems. We had 22 or 24 bikes show up. Our chicken noodle dinner was a great hit on Saturday night. We had quite an amount of noodles left over so there was a lot that went home, although there were several people that had second and third helpings, including Yours Truly. We aren't having a meeting this month because of Memorial Day weekend so those of you that are staying home that weekend, have a great time. I'm going to go on two all day rides. On Memorial Day, we will be at our RV hopefully having a cookout. So until next time be safe, ride safe, and we will see you soon. Your Assistant Chapter Director, Bob Downs As you are reading this article in the June newsletter, it won t be long until the Buckeye Rally. Hopefully you are making plans on celebrating the Buckeye Pride. We were discussing the other day of all the various Buckeye Rallies we have attended and all the memories we have. The very first rally we attended was in June of 1988 in Coshocton. This was before we actually joined G.W.R.R.A.; however we still enjoyed ourselves. As with all rallies or trips, it seems we have something out of the ordinary happen. The summer of 1988 was an extremely hot and dry summer. This was before we had a motorcycle camper so we camped in a tent. After we arrived at the campground, we were working on putting the tent up. When we got ready to put the poles through the tent, we realized we had no poles. According to Rudy, it was my fault the poles weren t packed since everything is always the co-rider s fault. I always said it was his fault because I had everything in a neat pile that was to be packed in the trailer. After realizing we didn t have tent poles, we went to Sears and a couple of other camping stores to try to purchase just the tent poles. Individual poles weren t sold at that time. Upon returning to the campground,we improvised the best we could. Rudy went into the woods and found a large tree limb about the height of the tent. We placed this 7 foot high limb inside the middle of the tent, and it held up the tent for us to be able to use the tent. It looked like a hillbilly s camp site but it worked for us. We graduated to a motorcycle camper numerous years ago, and we plan on camping at the Buckeye Rally. Hope to see you there. Rudy and Linda Copeland 2
