ALPHA AWNING SERIES The Alpha Awning Series represents the latest in fabricator focused awning systems. The Australian designed awning series by Hunter Douglas offers a full suite of products including: 1. Straight Drop 2. Cable Guide 3. Deep Channel 4. Pivot Arm 5. Side Retention System The Alpha Awning Series incorporates the following features and benefits: Common componentry across all systems to minimise stock holding and maintain common aesthetics across the series. Components sold in packs with all required parts to simplify production. All extrusions are available in mill finish for powder coating and silver pearl for a modern contemporary look. Fixing components are available in 304 grade stainless steel ideal for coastal environments or in zinc for a lower price point. The Alpha Awning Series can span 5 metres in width. Open roller or headbox enclosures offer two different price positions to the market. Unique bottom rail that is designed to add functionality whilst maintaining flexible and easy installation. Designed in Australia for Australian conditions. The awnings have been engineered and independently tested to withstand the harsh Australian climate including sun, wind and rain.

FEATURES BENEFITS Straight Drop Bottom Rail End Caps: Provide a neat, clean finish for the drop awning giving it a complete, premium look. Hold Down Straps: Can be used to hold down the awning at various points across the bottom rail giving maximum flexibility for installation. Locking Bolts: Used to secure the awning at the ends of the bottom rail. Either insert into a reveal or alternatively use a breeching staple on the ground for the bolt to slide under. Deep Channel Side Channel: The two piece Side Channel locks together and ensures no visible screws or rivets on the finished installation, creating a neat, clean finish. Channel Spacer: Increases the amount of fabric concealed within the channel, that in turn increases resistance to fabric blowout. Bottom Rail End Cap: Clamps the fabric and carries it in the channel therefore reducing the depth of the channel. Sliding Bolt: This option allows consumers to secure the Bottom Rail at various heights, by simply sliding the bolt into the selected positions in the side channel and locking into position. Brush: The side channels incorporate a brush insert down the length of the channel to assist in retaining the fabric, whilst also minimising noise from movement. Cable Guide Cable & Tensioner: Designed for tension to be applied at the bottom of the awning to enable simple installation. Bottom Rail End Caps: By floating in and out of the bottom rail the awning operates smoothly without putting pressure on the cable. Locking Bolts: Simply inserts into the universal floor and wall mount bracket to hold the fabric taut and minimise bottom rail movement. Extension Plate/Front Roll: Assists with ceiling and reveal fit installations by making the top cable bracket more accessible.

Side Retention System Side Channel: Refer to Deep Channel System. The front channel can also be disconnected if required to access the internal floating channel and fabric. Flexible Installation: The unique floating insert allows for flexibility with inaccurate fabric measurements or shrinkage. The floating channel feature will also move with the wind and take strain off the welds and joins in the fabric. Sound Bumper: The clever bumper has been incorporated into the floating channel to minimise noise when operating or in windy conditions. Tube Reducers: Minimises fabric build up, thereby ensuring the fabric rolls as symmetrically as possible. Locking Bolts: The channel End Cap essentially pushes the floating channel up 15mm allowing the locking bolt to insert into the base of the channel. Pivot Arm Function: Projects the fabric from the window, with the arms and fabric forming an arc that allows air to flow behind the awning, allowing windows to be open whilst the awning is projected. Open Headbox: Required for this awning to allow for the angle of the fabric. With the same design curve as the closed headbox, aesthetics are consistent across the series. Front Rail: Designed to have the same design curve as the bottom rail to create consistency across the series. Heavy Duty Spring: Allows for up to 5 metres in width. The spring incorporated provides excellent fabric tension and the modern anodised finish complements the silver pearl hardware. Sliding Arm Set: Optional. Facilitates changing the pivot point by simply moving the arms up or down the sliding rails.

ALPHA AWNING SERIES The Hunter Douglas Alpha Awnings series is designed in Australia for Australian conditions. The awnings have been engineered and independently tested to withstand the harsh Australian climate. 1. Awning & steel frame 3. Air vacummed away from awning 2. Plastic film The Testing Process There are various test methods for wind load capability. In comparison to other methods, the Facade Pressure Test allows for highly precise results as you can determine the performance of the awning at exact wind load levels. Some popular non-scientific test methods such as industrial sized fans blasting air on the awning don t accurately reflect wind speeds on impact with the awning due to variables including cross-breeze and the distance between the awning and fan. Hunter Douglas chose to use the most scientific test method according to a highly regarded independent testing laboratory. The Facade Pressure Test is conducted in an air tight chamber eliminating external variables, such as any cross-breeze and wind speed impact. The Method: 1. Awning mounted on steel frame. 2. Plastic film adhered to face of awning, sealing the chamber to create better suction. 3. Air vacuumed out of chamber stimulating the precise wind load. Increasing the wind load in set increments until signs of distress. ALPHA AWNINGS* CAN WITHSTAND SOME OF THE MOST VIOLENT STORMS WITH WINDS UP TO 108KM/HOUR. *The Alpha SRS (Side Retention System) Awning can withstand the rare condition of a violent storm, rated as an 11 on the Beaufort Wind Scale (103-117 km/hour) before needing to be retracted.

The Results The test results determined the following wind load rating (using the Beaufort Wind Scale) for each Alpha Awning: Product Beaufort Wind Scale Results Alpha Pivot Arm Awning 6 Can withstand speeds of up to 46 km/hour before needing to be retracted. Alpha Straight Drop Awning 7 Can withstand speeds of up to 60 km/hour before needing to be retracted. Alpha Deep Channel Awning 6 Can withstand speeds of up to 46 km/hour before needing to be retracted. Alpha Cable Guide Awning 7 Can withstand speeds of up to 60 km/hour before needing to be retracted. Alpha SRS Awning 11 Can withstand speeds of up to 108 km/hour before needing to be retracted. High Wind Load Capability To withstand varied Australian conditions and be considered highly effective, an awning must reach at least 40-50km/hour on the Beaufort Wind Scale. Hunter Douglas Alpha Awnings can sustain wind speeds between 46-108km/hour ensuring there is an Alpha Awning System to suit all environments. Beaufort Scale Term Wind Speed 0 Calm 0 1-3 Light winds 19 km/h or less 4 Moderate winds 20-29 km/h 5 Fresh winds 30-39 km/h 6 Strong winds 40-50 km/h 7 Near gale 51-62 km/h 8 Gale 63-75 km/h 9 Strong Gale 76-87 km/h 10 Storm 88-102 km/h 11 Violent storm 103-117 km/h 12+ Hurricane 118 km/h or more

ALPHA AWNING SERIES For easy installation, increased functionality and a modern contemporary look, the Alpha Awning Series offers two designer headbox options, as well as a second tier pricing point is also available with an open roller option. Closed Headbox Encapsulates the fabric from external elements such as rain, UV and, fragments, which assists in keeping the fabric clean and enhances longevity. Open Headbox Offers increased air circulation around the roller thereby minimising heat build up and reduced sticking on clear PVC skins. Open headbox is ideal for the Pivot Arm Awning but can also be used in front rolled Cable Guide and Straight Drop Awnings. Open Roller A modern industrial look is offered by exposing the operation componentry. By eliminating the aluminium headbox profiles, the price is significantly reduced making it the ideal choice for the cost conscious consumer.

ALPHA AWNING SERIES The Alpha Awning Series Bottom Rail offers versatility for holding the fabric taut and minimising any movement in windy situations. Not only does it provide a variety of features, it maintains a subtle modern design curve which seamlessly blends with the headbox aesthetics. Weight Bar The bottom rail has been designed with an internal 2mm aluminium wall section, offering 1.2kgs of weight per metre. An additional weight bar can be added to offer 2.2kgs per metre. This is beneficial for smaller awnings that require further weight to reduce bottom rail bounce and increase fabric tension. Locking Bolt The locking bolt secures the awning into the side channel base cable bracket or breeching staple. As the 8mm bolt is inserted inside the base rail, the system maintains its clean aesthetic, also allowing the bottom rail to be positioned closer to the ground. Hold Down Strap Hold down straps can be used to hold the awning down at various points across the width of the awning. This option also offers a traditional no guide system where the awning is simply locked into place via straps. Similar to the locking bolts, the hold down clips also insert inside the bottom rail for ease of manufacture and a clean bottom rail finish. Pile Brush and Valance As experienced in a number of Australian homes, the floor surface is often not perfectly level. Therefore when an awning is installed over a wide width there will be room for light gaps, insects, debris, wind and rain to enter the courtyard or home. With the ability to insert either a pile brush or a fabric valance, this gap can be eliminated therefore maximising the functionality of the awning. In addition to the protection offered by these inserts, they also protect the bottom rail from chipping if dropped to the ground quickly, and change the overall look of the awning based on the valance style chosen by the consumer. Concealed Spline Insert With the concealed spline insert, the bottom rail covers any welds or stitching required to secure the fabric to the bottom rail. This maintains the clean look of the Alpha Awning Series and when combined with 3.2m Everview External Screen Fabric means an awning of 5.0m (W) x 2.9m (D) can be produced with absolutely no visible welds or joins.

Available in a selection of Black, Grey and White for improved colour co-ordination. The 4:1 ratio gear (only available on 60mm tube) is great for smaller awnings and allows quicker projection & retraction of the awning. The range of polished zinc crank handles available in: 800mm, 1200mm, 1600mm, 2000mm & 2400mm lengths. Motorisation With 60mm, 70mm & 78mm tube variants, there are a wide range of external motor solutions allowing awnings to be operated from a remote control or a wall switch control. The Alpha Awning Series can be used with the latest Automatic Tensioning Motors that permit awnings to be locked in position (with strap or sliding bolt) and tensioned. This maintains tension on the fabric minimising fabric blow outs traditionally caused by unexpected high winds. Internal Cord Winch This option provides an entry level price for consumers wanting to operate the awning from inside their home (only available on 60mm tube). Spring Operation Allows the awning to be manually pulled down to the required height and locked off using either the sliding bolt system or hold down clip option (only available on 60mm tube).

ALPHA STRAIGHT DROP The Straight Drop Awning is a traditional awning style that uses no guides making it ideal for sun/uv protection, air flow and where channels are not suitable. To begin, manually pull tension on the cable via the top and bottom lugs. This tension is then held and locked off using grub screws. As necessary, additional tension can then be applied by tightening the nut on the top lug. This option works in all installation applications, with consumers even being able to reapply tension simply by tightening the nut on the top lug. Bottom Rail End Caps The bottom rail end caps allow the rail to reach the ground when using the floor mount option. When combined with the bottom rail brush option, this will assist in eliminating light gaps from under the bottom rail when fully lowered. Locking Bolts Locking bolts can be used with the cable guide when the awning is fully lowered. The locking bolt simply inserts into the universal floor and wall mount bracket to hold the fabric taut and minimises bottom rail movement. Extension Plate/ Front Roll The extension plate combined with the open headbox can be used with the cable guide awning for front roll applications. The extension plate assists with ceiling and reveal fit installations by making the top cable bracket more accessible.

ALPHA DEEP CHANNEL The Deep Channel Awning is a great straight drop option for sun/uv protection, windy applications, plus privacy and block out situations. This option allows up to 30mm of fabric within the channel, therefore eliminating light gaps and reducing the potential for fabric blow outs in windy conditions. This is a cost effective alternative to the Alpha Side Retention System Awning and is capable of accommodating installations that are out of square. 2 20 21 5 6 3 1 7 19 8 9 4 17 15 14 12 11 10 16 18 13 22 7 Simple Fabrication Steps Step 1 Fabric assembly. The channel awning comes with an additional channel spacer that is added to the main installation channel to increase the amount of fabric concealed within the channel. The front channel simply snaps over the installation channel to provide a neat, clean finish. The front channel can be disconnected if required to access the internal floating channel and fabric. Bottom Rail End Cap The Alpha Channel Awning Bottom Rail end cap consists of two pieces designed to clamp the fabric and carry it in the channel. By utilising the end cap for this function (as opposed to the Bottom Rail) we have significantly reduced the depth of the channel making it smaller than most competitor systems. In addition, the end cap also eliminates any chance of the bottom rail coming out of the channel due to its unique T design. Sliding Bolt This option allows consumers to secure the Bottom Rail at various heights, by simply sliding the bolt into selected whole positions in the side channel and locking into position. This feature holds the fabric taught and minimises Bottom Rail movement. This feature is essential for spring operated Deep Channel System. Brush The side channels incorporate a brush insert down the length to assist in retaining fabric within the channel, whilst also minimising noise from movement.

ALPHA PIVOT ARM The Pivot Arm Awning projects the fabric off the window, with the arms and fabric forming an arc that allows air to flow behind the awning. This allows windows to be open whilst the awning is projected. This system is a heavy duty contemporary design ideal for larger windows. 2 21 22 5 6 3 1 7 20 8 9 4 15 14 19 12 13 16 11 18 10 17 7 Simple Fabrication Steps Step 1 Fabric assembly. This allows the awning to operate like a normal Pivot Arm in the down position, and in the raised position it allows head clearance over doorways providing a canopy effect. Open Headbox The open headbox is required for this awning to allow for the angle of the fabric. With the same design curve as the closed headbox aesthetics are consistent across all Alpha Awning Series. Front Rail The front rail has been designed to have the same design curve as the Straight Drop bottom rail to create consistency across the Alpha Awning Series.

The front channel simply snaps over the installation channel to provide a neat, clean finish. The front channel can be disconnected if required to access the internal floating channel and fabric. Flexible Installation As the fabric is retained in the side channels, accurate measurements for installations would normally be essential. Due to the unique floating insert, there will be some installation flexibility as the channel can float thereby accommodating slight off square mounting surfaces and fabric shrinkages. The floating channel feature will also move with the wind and take strain off the welds and joins in the fabric. Clever sound bumpers have been incorporated into the floating channel to minimise noise when operating or in windy conditions. Tube Reducers There is a potential for fabric thickness build up at the end of the roller, as the awning is raised. The use of custom designed tube reducers minimises this build up, thereby ensuring the fabric rolls as symmetrically as possible, whilst the Awning is in operation. Locking Bolts Locking bolts can be used with the SRS when the awning is fully lowered. The channel end cap essentially pushes the floating channel up 15mm allowing the locking pin to insert to the base of the channel. How does it work? The fabric is tensioned by utilising a floating channel, located within the special two piece side channel, eliminating the possibility of fabric blow outs or light gaps. As the fabric is held taut between the left and right channels, this system is ideal for enclosing courtyards, patios or balconies, essentially adding an extra room to the home.

Alternatively, you can use the linking system to link up to three separate awnings up to a maximum width of 8m. Light Gap Flexibility You can choose to have no light gap between the awnings or they can be separated up to 150mm, allowing for awnings to be linked through mullions or posts. Reduced Motorisation Costs Previously, a motor would have been required for each separate awning plus the cost of an electrician to wire up the three separate motors. With the Alpha Linking System, only one motor is required to motorise all three awnings. Fewer motors and less time needed by the electrician equals significantly reduced motorisation costs. Suggested Applications The flexibility offered by the Alpha Linking System means it is ideal for a number of different uses including: Large spans of up to 8m Spans over verandas where the awnings need to be fitted between posts On windows where the awnings are fitted in reveal and are separated by mullions Compatible Alpha Awnings The Alpha Linking System can be used with the following awnings from the Alpha Awning Series: Alpha Straight Drop Awning Alpha Deep Channel Awning Alpha Side Retention System
