GATEWAY REGIONAL RETREADS RECAP Arkansas - Kansas - Louisiana - Mississippi - Missouri - Oklahoma www.gatewayregionalretreads.com January 2016 Directors Notes March We are all counting the days until Spring arrives!!! Although it is still winter, the weather has been nice enough that we have been able to get in quite a few rides. Remember to use your hand signals when riding if you don t have a CB to inform your riders in you group. Look at MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) and review the information, it may save and help your fellow rider. If you can t find this we will send you a copy for your information. There is not much news to share this time of year, so I will just remind everyone to please be sure and get your registrations in for any of the upcoming rallies you plan to attend. A head count is so vital in the preparations that we just really need to let our people know as soon as possible. Our first rally is April 1-2, April Fools Rally, in Coffeyville, Kansas. After that, is the Spring Fling in Mountain View, May 19-21; International at Metropolis, IL, June 27-30 th. The SWLA Rally is scheduled for September 18 th -25 th. PLEASE, if you have not sent in your 2016 dues, please do so as soon as possible. This year, if memberships have not been paid by April 15 th, you will be dropped from the mailing list/computer notifications, reason being is we cannot update the recue booklet unless we have the proper information. It is not fair to send out the newsletter to those people who have not paid for this year, when everyone else paid their membership within a reasonable time frame. North Arkansas Retreads February 24, 2016 Mountain Home, AR Hello Retreads! Early this morning we got our first significant winter storm in the Ozarks 1½ inches of snow. Its 2:00 p.m. and the snow is already melted. In December we got about ½ inch of snow. That has been our total snowfall for the 2015-2016 season. Daffodils are already blooming along the roadsides. Let s hope Old Man Winter is done this year and we get an early Spring. The Gateway Region website has been experiencing some technical difficulties this past month. If you tried to download a registration form for the Spring Fling, May 19-21, 2016 and were not able to get the form, call us at 870-491-5743 or email us at anne.jolibois@yahoo.com or wjolibois@yahoo.com and we will mail you a copy. The North Arkansas Retreads are celebrating our Thirtieth Anniversary this year. The club members have already put a lot of time and effort into this rally, and we would hate to have you miss it. A hard copy of the registration form is included in the mailed newsletter this month. Please register as soon as you can. It is hard for us to finalize our plans when we don t know how many people to expect. One new event this year is going to be Casino Night on Friday Night. You will be able to purchase Play Money to use at a Black Jack Table, Poker Table, Roulette Wheel, or the Retread Money Wheel. We will sell you the play money $1.00 in real money for $100.00 in Play Money. At the end of the evening, you will be able to use your Play Money winnings to bid on very nice auction items. Also this year we have added Guided Rides either to breakfast or lunch on Saturday and some popular Yard Games. Our tee shirt (lime green with navy blue artwork) was redesigned for the 30 th Anniversary. If you have any type of problem getting a registration form, we are just a phone call or email away. We will get a form to you. On January 29, we lost our beloved friend, John Gilbert. The Retreads will be doing a memorial donation to North Arkansas Food Bank in honor of John. Despite cold weather, we manage to do Friendship Rides almost every week. Last week 15 bikes, one car, and 24 people made a trip to Eureka Springs for the day. The afternoon high temperature reached 74 degrees. We had a great time. Pray for warm, dry weather in May. We look forward to seeing you at our Spring Fling, and maybe sooner at the April Fools Rally in Coffeyville, KS. Anne & Wayne Jolibois North Arkansas State Reps (870) 491-5743 Page 4
Joplin Area Retreads January 17, 2016 Joplin, MO Retreads Yes, we are still here! I apologize for our absence, but we have been meeting every month despite the changes and losses in the group. Please join us on the 3 rd Sunday at 8 am of each month at Granny Shaffer s, 2728 North Rangeline Road (just north of Zora on Rangeline). The skies were gray and cloudy and a mere 20 degrees, wind chill not accounted for when we left for the breakfast meeting. Ten retreads, four of our Kansas neighbors and six Missouri retreads were present for the meeting. Breakfast was delicious, as usual, the coffee and fellowship was plentiful. Final planning for the Early Bird menu for the April Fools Rally and some ideas for the 2018 International Rally in St. Joseph, MO was discussed. 1 bike (and sidecar) was on the lot this morning, which led to lots of discussion of worst weather conditions I think the consensus was 34 degrees and rain is the worst. Thoughts for the month ~ Be at War with your Vices, at Peace with your Neighbors, and let every New-Year find you a better Man. Kansas Retreads Salina Retreads Coyote Canyon Salina, KS Jan. Feb. 2016 We had 4 members in attendance this for Jan. We have been meeting for 37 years in Salina. We did not have any anniversaries or birthdays. We did not have a meeting in Feb. We wish Andelyn Smith a very Happy Birthday. Dan and Shirley Jones Salina Area Reps SWLA Retreads February 3, 2016 All is well in the South. Since the last update to the newsletter, we had our Christmas Party at Holbrook Park. The crowd was small but all had a good time. We gave away 2 memberships for 2016 as prizes for the gifts that rated high in tackiest gift and the most creatively ugly presented wrapping job. There were a lot of thieves at the White Elephant jungle. January we met at Novrozskys in Sulphur. This is a restaurant popular for its giant baked potatoes loaded with just about anything imaginable and their hamburgers. No one went hungry and that is for sure. February 4 we will be meeting at Joe s Italian Restaurant, one of my favorites. The weather has been excellent in Louisiana for riding this year. Sorry to say that we have had many accidents concerning motorcycles this year in our state. None of the accidents involved our Retreads. Mardi Gras is on us and hopefully we can get through this party without adding to the motorcycle accidents. I know that every state has the bad season of wrecks. Ride safe my friends. Dot's Spot As many of you may know, the folks of the North Central Region are not having a rally this year. However, I received the following from Ingrid Hanson... "Here is something we're gonna' try in the North Central next summer. This is not an official Retread Rally. Just getting a group together to have some fun without all the formally, cost and scheduling involved in a rally. I'm wondering if you could put the info in the next Gateway newsletter. We announced it at last fall's Dutch Treat so some people know about it but don't have details."
