Petite Vanilla Bean Scones Serves 24 INGREDIENTS: SCONES GLAZE: 3 cups All-purpose Flour 5 c. powdered sugar sifted 2/3 cups Sugar 1/2c. Whole milk 5 teaspoons Baking Powder 1 whole vanilla bean 1/4 teaspoon Salt dash of salt 2 sticks (1/2 Pound) UNSALTED Butter, Chilled 1 whole Large Egg 3/4 cups Heavy Cream (more If Needed) 2 whole Vanilla Beans COOKING INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Split the vanilla beans down the middle lengthwise and scrape out all the vanilla "caviar" inside. Stir caviar into cream. Set aside for 15 minutes. Sift together flour, 2/3 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut cold butter into pats, then use a pastry cutter or two knives to cut the butter into the flour. Keep going until mixture resembles crumbs. Mix vanilla cream with egg, then combine with flour mixture; stir gently with a fork just until it comes together. Turn dough onto a floured surface and lightly press it together until it forms a rough rectangle. (Mixture will be pretty crumbly.) Use a rolling pin to roll into a rectangle about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch thick. Use your hands to help with the forming if necessary. Use a knife to trim into a symmetrical rectangle, then cut the rectangle into 12 symmetrical squares/rectangles. Next, cut each square/rectangle in half diagonally, to form two triangles. Transfer to a parchment or baking mat-lined cookie sheet and bake for 18 minutes, removing from the oven just before they start to turn golden. Allow to cool for 15 minutes on the cookie sheet, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely. VANILLA GLAZE To make the icing, split one vanilla bean in half lengthwise and scrape out the caviar. Stir caviar into milk; allow to sit for awhile. Mix powdered sugar with the vanilla milk, adding more powdered sugar or milk if necessary to get the consistency the right thickness. Stir or whisk until completely smooth. One at a time, carefully dunk each cooled scone in the glaze, turning it over if necessary. Transfer to parchment paper or the cooling rack. Allow the glaze to set completely, about an hour. Scones will keep several days if glazed.

ACHIEVE IMAGINE EXPERIENCE CREATE Website We are excited to inform everyone that we have recently launched an updated website & server. We have updated the pictures & information to better represent the wonderful place you call home. The new website provides a more secure server, as well as allowing the website to be mobile. You will also be able to RSVP for Events on the Event Calendar again. Please note that your usernames & passwords have NOT changed. In addition to the new website, we have removed the Community Mailing list. Several residents had been experiencing issues with this, and it was not on a secure server. Moving forward, if you would like to communicate something to the community please email and we will ensure it gets posted in a timely manner. The "Alert" mailing list is still effective for emergencies (suspicious vehicle, lost dog, etc.) If you need to send an emergency email please send it to alert@thesanctuarylodge.com. We are excited for the new upgrades & I encourage everyone to view the new website! Trespassing Signs: The beautiful surroundings of the Sanctuary are the principal reason many of us purchased property here. Unfortunately, people who don t own lots have been trespassing, hunting, having bonfires, dumping garbage and trying to camp overnight without permission of the owner. The police have recommended that owners post No Trespassing signs on lots. When a lot is posted, the police can run off or arrest trespassers without having to call the property owner. This sign meets the requirements of the CC&Rs. Owners can purchase signs and have them installed for $45.90 per sign. North Carolina law states that signs must be posted not more than 200 yards apart on each accessible side of the property. Please call Kelly at the Lodge, 704-504-8158 or email for more information.
Committee Updates: We are currently seeking volunteers for the following committees to begin the 2014 year: The Board: Two spots will be opening in February Nominating Committee Landscaping Committee Social Committee If you are interested please contact me at the Lodge 704.504.8158 or by email kelly@es2services.com SECURITY UPDATE: Please Note: Board & Security Updates Since it is now January 2014, that means it is time to remove the old access codes/cards and begin using the new ones. We are in the process of ensuring the system is working effectively, and an email will be sent out to all preserve owners when the official switch is made. Once the switch is made you will only have access to the Camp & Lodge by using your new card that was obtained between October December. If you have not picked up your cards at the Lodge you can still do so during office hours, Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm; and Sunday 12pm-5pm. In an effort to make the transition as smooth as possible, during nonoffice hours the phone at the Lodge will be forwarded to Kelly's personal cell phone throughout the month of January. If you have any issues getting into the gate, it will call my cell phone and I will be able to let you in. If you have any issues getting into the Lodge, please call the Lodge at 704-504-8158 and it will call me & I will be able to give you a temporary code to get into the Lodge.
