General information The new expansion of architectonic heritage protection as important issue for the sustainable development of the local communities in Macedonia Support of the National association of cities and areas with art and history and cities with protected sectors of the Republic of France Creation of a multifunctional system on the relation central-local government with common objective to use the existent possibilities, to open new perspectives and to realize concrete project of protection of the architectonic heritage in all parts of the state. The Association work is based on two key documents: 1. Statute Determination of objectives and tasks, Providing of suitable mechanisms for institutionalization of the architectonic heritage protection, Promoting of the cultural values, Local economic development, Meeting the needs of the expert support in the organization of activities, Campaigns and Projects in the field of architectonic heritage protection

2.Work Program Affirmation of the architectonic heritage on domestic and international level. Animating the public of the architectonic heritage importance. Preparation and realization of the concrete projects according the sustainable development strategies of the member cities. Lobbing at domestic and foreign donators, investors, institutions, foundations and individuals to support the projects. Using the potential of the specialists and experts. Popularization of the architectonic heritage trough organized campaigns.

Managing bodies: Managing Board -5 members and Supervision Board - 3 members Experts participation: National Direction of cultural heritage protection, Republic Institute of cultural monuments protection, National Conservation Center and Architectonic Faculty -Skopje.

Result: Categorization of the architectonic heritage in Skopje and Bitola

Legislation: Lack of legislation exclusively related to the architectonic heritage. Current legislation: The Low on cultural heritage protection of 2004 (Official Gazette nº 20/04) Regulation on contents and methodology for elaboration of the basics of the architectonic heritage protection and conservation of 2005 and The Low on changes and supplement of the Low on cultural heritage protection of 2007 (Official Gazette nº 115/07)-harmonization with adopted international contracts and EU legislation in cultural heritage protection.

Legislation: Cultural heritage is Fundamental value that should be protected in any condition (Article 5, line1), Real estate and movable wealth are protected with their environment trough determination of contact zones (Article 5, line6), Architectonic heritage in function of the sustainable development (Article 6, line 2): The protection of the real estate cultural heritage is realized through his obligatory integration in the special and urban plans and in the plans and programs of environment protection, as well as trough his treatment as a factor of the sustainable economic and social development, especially in direction of development of the cultural tourism, housing, specific professions and education..

Activities: Association foundation- additional animation to undertake concrete activities in their communities. categorization of the architectonic heritage (Skopje and Bitola) reconstruction of authentic city houses, sacral object and city monumental zones with great architectonic and cultural value in several cities as Ohrid, Prilep, Debar, Veles, Strumica, Krusevo, Stip etc.

Activities: Creation of strip murals based on experiences from Angouleme and French National Association Mural of the poet Koco Racin in the city center

Results: Association office opened in the in the memorial house of the first drama writer and celebrated intellectual of Veles, Jordan Hadzi Konstantinov Dzinot February 2007 Increased number of member cities: 7 member cities in 2005 More than 20 member cities in 2008

Key issues: Organizational models Financing/small municipal budgets Growing needs of the sustainable development

Challenges: Identification of modalities and possibilities for harmonization of the Association activities with development policies of ZELS Lobbing for preparation of a Low related exclusively with issue of architectonic heritage. Creation of a legal solution based on the example of the Low on construction with buildings categorization and precise competences on national and local level.

Challenges: Good organization of the local administrations that should include the specialist in the field of architectonic heritage protection. Current reforms in the Cadastre Direction of Macedonia The State aid with providing means for preparation of elaborates of the architectonic heritage protection

Perspectives: Macedonia is rich in architectonic heritage and specific architectonic zones in the cities as well as in the rural areas that represents significant base for sustainable development of the local communities. Open chances for intensive collaboration with friends from the Republic of France and other countries.
