What a rough crossing!
London London Monday, April 30th Monday, April 30th We arrived in London in a pouring rain
The Tower of London After a hot drink, we visited the Tower of London, a Norman stone fortress located on the north bank of the River Thames. It was a royal residence but also a prison and a place of execution. One of its main buildings, known as «the White Tower», was constructed by William the Conqueror in 1078.

After lunch, we took «the Tube» (the London Underground) and headed for the district of Westminster. «The Tube» is the oldest underground in the world.

The British Museum The Rosetta Stone is a stone with writing on it in two languages (Egyptian and Greek) and three scripts (hieroglyphic, demotic and Greek). Champollion deciphered the hieroglyphs in 1822 thanks to the Rosetta Stone. The British Museum is one of the world s largest museums of human history. We saw wonderful objects in this museum: the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon frieze and the Egyptian department with its impressive collection of mummies.
The Parthenon frieze is a marble sculpture created to decorate the upper part of the Parthenon, which was a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena in Athens. It is 160 metres long and represents 378 human figures (men, women, girls, boys, slaves, gods) and 245 animals.
This mummy was nicknamed: «Ginger» because of his red hair. His body was preserved naturally in the hot dry sand of the Egyptian desert where he was buried 5,500 years ago.
