DIRECTORS COLUMM October 2010 The Salisbury Concours d Elegance held September 11-12 was certainly a weekend of celebration of the fine art and design of the automobile. This year the special feature classes included: The Cars of Frank Lloyd Wright Era British and European Sports and Racing Cars British and European Luxury Automobiles Supercars Mitchell Cars Early Compact Cars These were in addition to the categories that are featured each year, i.e. Salisbury Class Antique American and European Class Collectible American and European Class Special Interest In total, there were 122 cars available for the public to enjoy. The weekend started Saturday morning with the 3 rd Annual Salisbury Heartland Driving Tour and Luncheon. This included stops at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, historic Pella, and the Knoxville Raceway and the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. After the tour, all of the exhibitors and their guest were treated to the lovely reception and dinner at the Willis Auto Campus that is compliments of club member, Rich Willis. Sunday morning everybody awoke to a beautiful September day in Iowa. The weather was perfect for the Grand Salisbury Concours d Elegance. The cars were staged early in the morning and judged later by French rules. The event culminated with the awards reception of a light dinner buffet on the Salisbury patio and the presentation of the awards followed. Club member, Noel Friday was privileged to be awarded 1 st place in the Frank Lloyd Wright class with his 1932 Cord L-29. Congratulations!!! It is estimated that over 1000 people enjoyed this outstanding event. If you were unable to attend this year perhaps you will be able to next year. The latest update on the CLCMRC is that both boards, the CLCMRC and Gilmore, are in discussion and trying to finalize the design of the building. I will keep you updated on the progress as it occurs. MEMBERS IN THE NEWS Lyle Dahl has finished his therapy and continues to improve. Bill Schlenker was hospitalized last week but is now home and will continue treatments. DeWayne Repp continues to have gradual improvement. Al Edmond continues to reside in Trinity Center at Luther Park. Please continue to keep all of these members and their spouses in your prayers. JOIN US IN THE AMANA COLONIES FOR A GREAT DINING & TOURING EXPERIENCE IOWA CROSSROADS CLC OCTOBER EVENT Lunch and Touring in Amana: The Iowa Crossroads CLC will be cruising to the Amana Colonies for Lunch, Wine Tasting and Antique Browsing on Saturday, October 16, 2010. Members from central Iowa who are interested in goingg will meet at McDonald s in Altoona (across from the Adventureland Inn) at 8:30 a.m. for our departure to Amana. Iowa Crossroads members from other parts of the state can travel to Amana to meet us. We plan to arrive in Amana by 10:30 a.m. for a little wine tasting and antique touring before lunch. Lunch willl be served off the menu to us at the Ox Yoke Inn (4420 220 th Trail) in Amana at noon. A short meeting and some rather pleasant surprises are on tap after lunch so don t miss out! More touring (at your leisure) in picturesque Amana is in store after lunch.
