DIRECTORS COLUMM October 2010 The Salisbury Concours d Elegance held September 11-12 was certainly a weekend of celebration of the fine art and design of the automobile. This year the special feature classes included: The Cars of Frank Lloyd Wright Era British and European Sports and Racing Cars British and European Luxury Automobiles Supercars Mitchell Cars Early Compact Cars These were in addition to the categories that are featured each year, i.e. Salisbury Class Antique American and European Class Collectible American and European Class Special Interest In total, there were 122 cars available for the public to enjoy. The weekend started Saturday morning with the 3 rd Annual Salisbury Heartland Driving Tour and Luncheon. This included stops at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, historic Pella, and the Knoxville Raceway and the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. After the tour, all of the exhibitors and their guest were treated to the lovely reception and dinner at the Willis Auto Campus that is compliments of club member, Rich Willis. Sunday morning everybody awoke to a beautiful September day in Iowa. The weather was perfect for the Grand Salisbury Concours d Elegance. The cars were staged early in the morning and judged later by French rules. The event culminated with the awards reception of a light dinner buffet on the Salisbury patio and the presentation of the awards followed. Club member, Noel Friday was privileged to be awarded 1 st place in the Frank Lloyd Wright class with his 1932 Cord L-29. Congratulations!!! It is estimated that over 1000 people enjoyed this outstanding event. If you were unable to attend this year perhaps you will be able to next year. The latest update on the CLCMRC is that both boards, the CLCMRC and Gilmore, are in discussion and trying to finalize the design of the building. I will keep you updated on the progress as it occurs. See you on the highways and byways, Jim
