Itinerary : Days 1-4 Day 1 Friday 11th September Depart UK/Europe for flights to Antananarivo, Madagascar. Upon arrival, you will be met and collected from the airport, and transported to your lovely overnight accommodation. Day 2 Saturday 12th September We will take a flight heading south, where you ll be staying at an idyllic hotel near the sea. After checking in and a quick lunch, we will head straight out to a small private reserve not too far away. This will be our first opportunity to see and photograph some wild Lemurs! Day 3 Sunday 13th September After breakfast, we will continue our journey south by car. We will be passing through some small villages and local markets, giving us a glimpse of the native culture. We will eventually arrive at a private nature reserve, set in a landscape that resembles another planet bright red earth surrounded by alien-looking architectural plants. At dusk we will head out for a night walk at the gallery forest to seek out some of the nocturnal species that inhabit this environment, such as the Madagascan Scops Owl. Day 4 Monday 14th September From early morning until night, we will have numerous walks to explore and record the many fascinating wildlife with the help of our specialist guides. Amongst them, Natures Images Madagascar Rainforests: 11th - 27th September 2020 Page 1

Itinerary : Days 5-8 we will see several species of Lemurs, birds, chameleons, scorpions and fruit bats. Some of the highlights include the Dancing Sifaka, and a visit to the unique spiny forest a very special habitat with fascinating flora and fauna. Day 5 Tuesday 15th September After a good night s rest, we will have our final breakfast at the restaurant do watch out for the croissant-stealing Ring-tailed Lemurs though! We will then drive back to the airport to catch a flight back to the capital city where we will spend an evening at the hotel. Day 6 Wednesday 16th September We will drive east to a small community run rainforest reserve. The habitat in the eastern region is very different to our previous location. The forest here is moist but also cooler. Therefore some of the animals and plants found in this environment are very different to those seen in the south. In the evening we will go for a night walk looking for some of the nocturnal species such as Mouse Lemurs and amphibians. Day 7 Thursday 17th September We will devote the entire day to exploring a prominent national park looking for wildlife and flora to photograph, such as the critically endangered Diademed Sifaka. During sunset, we will have another night walk in search of nocturnal subjects. Day 8 Friday 18th September After breakfast, we will visit yet another national park nearby. While smaller, this special reserve supports a great many species, including the largest of the Lemurs, the Indri, beautiful Red-bellied Lemur, and the adorable Grey Natures Images Madagascar Rainforests: 11th - 27th September 2020 Page 2

Itinerary : Days 9-12 Bamboo Lemurs. After lunch we will drive to the edge of a vast freshwater lake for an enjoyable boat ride to the private reserve, where we will be based for the next two days. Day 9-10 Saturday 19th to Sunday 20th September We will have the opportunity to explore the surrounding forest where it holds some truly unique animals and plants, such as hybridized Lemurs, tree frogs, Pitcher plants and many more. After lunch you will have some personal relaxing time in the afternoon to enjoy this beautiful location. Each day will end with a visit to a special island at dusk to see the most bizarre of all the Lemurs, the Aye Aye. Although challenging conditions, with careful instructions from me you should be able to photograph this truly incredible looking creature during our two visits. Day 11 Monday 21st September After breakfast, we will leave this beach resort by the lake, and catch another relaxing boat ride back and onwards to the city for an overnight stay. Day 12 Tuesday 22nd September Today we will head in a southerly direction to an elevated city 1500m above sea level. In the afternoon we will visit a scenic lake and a traditional Merina village, before settling in to a very quaint boutique hotel. Natures Images Madagascar Rainforests: 11th - 27th September 2020 Page 3

Itinerary : Days 13-16 Day 13 Wednesday 23rd September This morning we will continue southwards to our final destination, a cloud rainforest. The temperature here will be even cooler than those we ve previously visited due to the altitude. We will begin with a night walk at dusk looking for species found in this region such as the Nosehorned Chameleon and the Bright-eyed Frog. Day 14 Thursday 24th September We will spend a full day discovering the many diverse flora and fauna that live in this beautiful forest. Passing over impressive waterfalls and streams, we will hope to see wildlife such as the Golden Bamboo Lemur, Milnes Edward s Sifaka, chameleons and the Satanic Leaf-tailed Geckos. After a picnic, we will take a short drive to another location to search for other interesting species such as the Giraffe-necked Weevil or the brightly coloured Mantella frogs. The day will finish with yet another enjoyable night walk discovering more nocturnal species. Day 15 Friday 25th September After breakfast, we will have a long drive back to the capital city, passing scenic mountain terrain with rice terraces, stopping half way for lunch. Day 16 Saturday 26th September Depending on our flight schedule, we will be taken to the airport to catch our homeward flight and we will arrive in the UK on 27th September. Additional info Things to bring Madagascar is a vast country and the different locations we will be visiting means that you will need two different types of clothing. For the majority of the time we will be working in fairly warm conditions thus we recommend fast drying, ventilated trousers and tops. There is a short period where we will be in slightly elevated grounds so pack a couple of fleeces/ jumpers to bring with you also. We may encounter tropical showers on the odd occasion, so rain covers for your equipment and a light-weight waterproofs for yourself are essential. Additional information The cuisine here carries a strong Asian influence, with rice being available on most meals. Zebu (cattle) also features heavily on the menu. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided with the meals. we ll be walking in a tropical environment, sometimes in hilly terrain, so only bring equipment that you think you ll really need and use as to not burden yourself with excessive weights. Please also bear in mind that for internal flights, the cabin bag limit is only 5kg. Your camera bag therefore may be scrutinized during check-in. Useful contact information: My contact number for the build up to and for the duration of the trip is: Des: +44 (0)7534 225563 Please don t hesitate to contact me even if you think it is a minor question, I m here to help. We will have two internal flights on this trip. Unfortunately, Madagascar Air can be somewhat unreliable. We have made some provisions for this eventuality and will do our best to overcome any issues that arise from cancellations or delays that are out of our control. Please be aware however that these changes may incur additional costs. Many of the roads are in poor condition. We will employ comfortable and reliable vehicles, sometimes 4x4 s, during our visit. Please note that the itinerary may change in order to adapt to the prevailing conditions, such as the weather or behaviour of the wildlife etc. Lastly, please make sure you have adequate insurance to cover every eventuality and to speak with your physician for the necessary immunizations several weeks before travelling. Flash is necessary during night outings and useful in the rainforest, especially for macros. As backups, you should bring a second camera body and have at least one spare battery.
