Bondi Beach SYDNEY There is no place in the world like Sydney, a cosmopolitan city that readers of Condé Nast, a leading international travel magazine, have voted their favourite on no fewer than 12 occasions including 2008. Sydney s natural beauty and the friendliness of its sports-loving people are just two of the many reasons why Australia s first and largest city is the perfect place for you to come and compete in the seventh staging of the World Masters Games. Six exciting things to do in Sydney are: Climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge to admire 360-degree city views from the top of one of the world s most famous structures Dining at a waterside restaurant in the historic Rocks precinct, by the beach at Balmoral or on the wharf at Woolloomooloo Exploring Sydney Harbour at a leisurely pace aboard a ferry or at breakneck speed on an adrenalin-pumping jet boat Going on a backstage tour of the Sydney Opera House before seeing a performance at one of the world s leading arts venues Learning about Australia s unique flora and fauna at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney Aquarium or the picturesque Taronga Zoo Catching the perfect wave at one of Sydney s 50 golden beaches, including Australia s best known stretch of sand at Bondi. Finger Wharf, Woolloomooloo North Narrabeen Pool and Beach Ferry, Sydney Harbour

NEW SOUTH WALES AND AUSTRALIA Sydney is the major international gateway to the state of which it is the capital New South Wales and the country of which it is the largest city Australia. New South Wales regions close to Sydney include the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains, the wine-growing Hunter Valley and the picture-postcard Southern Highlands. Travel just a little further afield and you will find the North Coast, South Coast, Snowy Mountains and the New South Wales Outback all of them intriguing touring destinations. Australia is home to 17 World Heritage sites, including the Great Barrier Reef, the Tasmanian Wilderness and the tropical rainforests of North Queensland. For a truly outback experience, the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in the Northern Territory is famous for endless blue skies, Indigenous Australian culture and the country s most recognisable natural icon, Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock). Three Sisters, Blue Mountains If cities are your thing then Australia s other state and territory capitals Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne and Perth all have distinct characteristics and attractions to excite even the most seasoned traveller.
