The Flakey Huntsville Ski Club Newsletter January 2016 Prez Msg January 1, 2016 Time for your New Year s Resolutions to begin. Yes, it s that time already, not too soon for me and probably many of our HSC friends. By now we realize that most of our resolutions involve getting back in shape after putting on a pound or two during the holidays. If that s the case for you, then join with me with some challenging but rewarding resolutions for the New Year. For 2016 I resolve to do the following: Walk/run/hike an average of 10 miles per week Climb stairs 50 steps per day Join a health/activity club of some sort; i.e. yoga, jogging, biking, hiking, dancing, etc. Talk to my parents, children, and neighbors on a daily basis (no texting) Make new friends and keep up with old ones Plan each day as if it s my last Thank God for the blessing of this wonderful country we live in Place an educated vote for the best candidates in the upcoming election Ski Season 2016 is open! Yes, several of the ski have record snowfall this early in the season with more to come. A few trips are still open. Trip packages are detailed below in this newsletter. The annual HSC Christmas (Holiday) Party was a great success. A special thanks to Jodi Stephens, our Social Director, for organizing and making this event one to remember. And thanks to all who assisted in making this event a great success. Sorry I could not be there due to a severe cold, maybe next year. Membership renewals continued to flow generously into our mailbox this month. If you have forgotten to renew, please take a moment to renew today. The renewal application is attached to this newsletter. Thanks to all who have already renewed their memberships. And a special thanks to our membership committee for the hard work they have been doing. If you have any changes to your membership profile, please contact Ina Jenkins or Harriett Dobbins. HSC Decorated two Christmas Trees for the Downtown Huntsville Library s annual Festival of Trees. The display will be taken down soon after the New Year so, if you have not seen the display, don t delay. Thanks to all who participated. Call for Volunteers: Please give some serious consideration about taking a leadership role in our club. It is an honor to serve on the board of directors, but it is time for fresh ideas and innovative thinking to keep our club at the top of the ladder for Ski Clubs in the Southeast and on top of the social scene in Huntsville. Of course, all board positions are open for the election. Several current members have already indicated that they will step down in March 2016. Looking for something to do??? Check out the latest information and pictures on our Facebook group page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/huntsvilleskiclub/. Also, check out our website at www.huntsvilleskiclub.org. You are welcome to be our guest at our monthly meeting. We meet each month on the third Wednesday at Huntsville Area Association of Realtors (HAAR) on the corner of Holmes Ave and Monroe St. at 7:00 8:30 pm. Refreshments will be served. Have a wonderful HSC day, Bob Breeden - HSC President (931)-967-5372 From the Ski Trips Director This is an El Nino year!!! The snow keeps piling up out west and the ski season is here!!!! Don t you think it s about time to go out and get some turns of your own? It is not too late to sign-up for a Huntsville Ski Club trip this year on one of our trips to Colorado, Oregon, California, Utah, or Montana. Think SNOW!!!!! Special & Social Events Where were you December 19 this year? Well, almost 100 of us were together at the UAH Exhibit Halls having a blast. The beautiful evening began early in the day with those who gathered to help decorate the hall. Paulette Bernstein, Sue Chatham, Nan Case, Pat Brewer, myself, and several others turned the Exhibit Hall into a winter wonderland with snowmen, reindeer, nutcrackers, santas, and other Christmas decor. Guests who began arriving at 6 pm were shown the way into the building with luminaries lining the outside walkway. We all had a chance to catch up during the social hour, and at 7pm we began dining on chicken or beef, with desserts of red velvet cake and pecan pie. The Purple Ravens kicked things into high gear at 8, and we danced the night away until 11. Dance cards with special songs were provided, and a few line dances were performed during the evening. Pics are provided on the Ski Club Facebook page, and a few are shown here. If you missed this one, make your plans now for next year! Thanks to a great committee for making a memorable evening!
