Volume 21, Issue 10 October 2006 PROGRESS ON RUNWAY PROJECT PHOTO TAKEN ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2006 (Photo furnished by Larry Henson) O F F I C I A L N E W S L E T T E R O F H I C K S A I R F I E L D P I L O T S A S S N F L A P P I N G S By the time you get this, this photo will be out of date. The entire runway is paved as of September 27th and the taxiway and the new runup areas are being prepped for paving. If all goes well, the airport will reopen ahead of schedule. The due date was October 11th and it looks as though the contractor will be able to meet or exceed that expectation. For the next six months there will not be any official markings on the runway. The plan is to seal the runway after six months and then all the official markings and numbers will be applied. The runway and ground maintenance committees have done a great job staying on top of this important project. The President s Corner Jim Rockwood As I write this, the runway reconstruction is approximately 50% complete and it is looking really good. Hopefully by the time you read this we will be close to re-opening. The entire Runway Committee worked very hard to get us to this point. They got us the right runway at the right price and in doing so, saved enough of your money to allow approximately the south half of the front taxiway to also be reconstructed. The committee members are: Jerry Stern, Billy Akin, Larry Henson, Bryan Martin, Mary Reddick, and Alan Sanderson. Additionally, Alan Sanderson and Billy Akin deserve special thanks for relocating several runway and taxiway lights as well as riding heard on the entire runway effort. They all deserve our thanks. I hope I didn t miss anyone. On another topic, Steve Carter and Dan Campbell have resigned from the Board of Directors. In accordance with the Association Bylaws, the remaining board members have elected Billy Akin and Bob Kraft to fill the unexpired terms. I want to thank Steve and Dan for their support in maintaining Hicks as a First Class Airfield and welcome Billy and Bob to the Board. One of Billy and Bob s first tasks is evaluating the proposed 2007 budget. The Budget Committee and Board have been working to create a 2007 Budget that will provide sufficient funding to properly maintain the airport without busting individual members budgets. We are planning to present the final draft budget to the membership during the October Board Meeting, make changes as required, and approve the budget at that time, if possible. If you are interested I encourage you to attend the October meeting. And finally, the court hearing on HAPA s Request for Summary Judgment related to the License Fee lawsuit which was scheduled for Sept 21 st was postponed due to a court scheduling issue. At this time no new date has been set. Once again I want to thank all involved with the runway project and I encourage each of you to personally thank these volunteers that have given so much time and effort for all of us at Hicks. Jim Rockwood President Hicks Airfield Pilots Association NEW AIRPORT WEBSITE At the September Board of Directors meeting, a new website was adopted by the Board. The new web address is: http://www.t67.org. The new site has an active calendar of events, fly out & social activity photo links, and numerous pages of info for all the HAPAproperty owners, The 2007 HAPADirectory is available online now with info furnished by members and info from TAD s website. The directory is user name & password protected. Click on the link to email admin@t67.org for your password. Provide your info for the next update! Thanks, the Directory Volunteers.
