Shots and Medical Prep You are only required to get Yellow fever shot. You can get that from your general physician or you can get it from local health clinic. It will last you for like 10 yrs though. visit http://www.passporthealthusa.com/vaccinat ions/yellow-fever/ to find a local clinic in your area to get it done FYI your doc might tell you you need like 10 shots, but only yellow fever is required. If you have any allergy to the shot you can get a doctors note to validate that you re not required to get it. Malaria Pills ( malaria is like the flu, you could die from it but most people don t and it s very common) Everyone has their preference. Worst thing to do is NOT to take it. Make sure you take your pills 3-4 days before we leave, the whole time we're there and the full week once we return. this varies by a day or two depending on which malaria pill you choose but make sure you TAKE IT! My go to is this because of the nutritional value and no side effects: https://www.pureformulas.com/superartemisinin-60-vegetarian-capsules-by-allergyresearch-group.html But there are other highly recommended prescribed malaria pills as well like Malarone: Heres a Recommended Med List -Malarone - prescription - (start 2 days prior to travel, take every day during travel, take for 7 days upon return from travel) -Cipro - prescription -(traveler's diarrhea) -Benadryl - over the counter -EpiPen - prescription - (if have anaphylaxis/allergies) -Zyrtec/Allegra (allergies) - over the counter -Tylenol/Motrin/Aleve - over the counter -Miralax or Dulcolax (constipation)
Visa Traveling from US you do need a Visa for both Kenya and Tanzania. You should get visa 1-2 months in advance of when we're leaving in June. It actually only takes like a week to do but I'd highly reco doing it with at least 2-3 weeks in advance. There is now an online Visa application making it simple to apply online for everyone here are the links below: Online Visa for Tanzania ( there's a fee but strongly recommended for fast and no hassle): https://tanzania.visahq.com/ Online Visa App for Kenya ( there's a fee but strongly recommended for fast and no hassle): https://kenya.visahq.com/ Thru the Embassy for Tanzania http://tanzaniaembassy-us.org/?page_id=76 for Kenya https://www.kenyaembassy.com/visa.html Things you will need to have before applying for your Visa: Valid Passport for at least 6 months Four passport size photos you can get this done at duane reed or staples or cvs Flight Itinerary Kenyan/Tanzanian Address and Contacts (I will provide this) Host Letter (I will provide this as well) Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is not required. However, we suggest purchasing travel and evacuation insurance through protectmybubble or WorldNomads.

Weather and Food. The weather in Kenya and Tanzania in September is about 80-82 Degrees in the day and 68-70 degrees in the evening. There will be plenty of food options for everyone with allergy considerations in mind We will eat from different restaurants every evening. As we get closer I will be providing a full list of what to pack and frequent reminders per prep so that you ll be fully prepared. You will also have a fully fleshed out day by day itinerary as well. Phones You have 3 options: 1. Turn off all data and roaming and just use wifi at the hotel (this isn t stable 100% of the time depending on the area we re in) 2. Unlock your phone before we leave and get a local sim card inserted when you arrive so that your phone runs on the local network the package for this is like $35/40. The actual chip is like $5 it's the package that costs based on data you need. esp if you use social media a lot ( Recommended if you really need to be on your phone 80% of the time). We've never spent more than $40 and if you run out of "credit" you can get more literally on the side of the road. 3. Get an international plan with your phone company before we leave
