ABOUT THE EVENT The Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine (ASAM) will host the 65th Annual Conference and Scientific Meeting at Alice Springs Convention Centre from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 August 2018. We anticipate a minimum of 150 doctors from Australia and New Zealand will attend. ASAM members are primarily medical practitioners with an interest in aviation and aerospace medicine, and aeromedical retrieval. Many are also pilots. ASAM has a strong representation of medical practitioners in the military. The purpose of this important national event is to provide a formal professional development meeting incorporating opportunities for Australian and New Zealand health practitioners to interact, share experiences, hear others stories, teach and learn. This year s conference theme is The Beating Heart of Aviation Medicine. Australia has one of the safest and most active aviation communities, both commercial and private, in the world. It is no coincidence that Australia is also the home of one of the world s largest and most enduring aerospace medicine communities. Flying for many Australians is not just a joyful departure from their day-today terrestrial existence, it is also a livelihood, and a lifeline. Aviation medical examiners are fundamental to enabling Australians to fly, to enjoy their aviation pursuit, to have confidence that the women and men in the cockpit or the tower can be entrusted with the lives and safety of themselves and their families. At the heart of aviation medicine in Australia, standing behind every pilot, controller and passenger, is an aviation medical examiner who has helped them to get there, and to stay safe. Two and a half days... The 2018 Conference will have two and a half days of scientific sessions. The program will commence with the welcome reception on Thursday evening and conclude with a farewell lunch on Sunday. The social events are available for sponsorship. The program includes...
