Both officers heard what they recognized to be several shots of gunfire from the 400 block of Broadway. They immediately located a witness who pointed to the suspect who was attempting to flee the scene by getting to his parked car. Officer Anton pursued the suspect and with the assistance of Officer Fitzpatrick, Officer Joshua Cabillo, Officer Jonathan Sylvester, Officer Kevin Stucki, and Officer Patrick Backman he was taken into custody. The incident began as a physical altercation between several parties in the area. Three firearms were located by the arresting officers and retained as evidence. The suspect, an adult male from Hayward, was booked on multiple charges. Luckily, no one was injured as a result of this incident. The Central Investigations Team is still actively investigating this case. Thanks to the officers named above for taking a dangerous and armed Suspect in custody. The victim saw a suspect walking with his distinctive jacket on and detained the suspect. Officers arrived and took the suspect into custody. Arrest made. Two unknown suspects knocked on the victim s apartment door. As the victim was about to open the door, the suspects rushed through the door. The suspects pointed guns at the victim and struck him in the eye. The suspects tied up the victim s hands and searched the apartment. Officers were flagged down by a witness of the incident and responded to the scene. Arrests made. An unknown suspect was unsuccessful in prying open the front door. An unknown suspect entered the building using an access card that was stolen the night before from a lockbox on the door. The suspect stole property from the office. An unknown suspect entered the office and stole property. It is unknown how the suspect gained entry to the office. An unknown suspect entered the victim s apartment through an open window while she was sleeping and stole property. Two unknown suspects pried open the rear door and stole property. An unknown suspect entered the garage through the unlocked door between two garages and stole a bicycle. The victim was awoken by an unknown suspect opening his bedroom window. The victim went toward the window and attempted to prevent the suspect from entering the room. The suspect was startled by the victim and fled the scene. An unknown suspect entered the store through the front door that was previously damaged and stole property. The victim returned to her apartment and found the suspect inside of her unlocked apartment. The victim confronted the suspect and he fled the scene. No items were stolen from the apartment. Three unknown suspects pried open the side door and stole property. As the suspects fled through the rear door, they left the rear door unlocked. Later, two more unknown suspects entered the unlocked rear door and stole property. A neighbor saw the suspect reach under the locked gate of the apartment building and steal packages. The neighbor called the police and officers detained a suspect in the area matching the description. The neighbor positively identified the detained suspect as the suspect who stole the packages. Arrest made. Three unknown suspects pried open the metal gate of a storage area inside the garage and stole bicycles. An unknown suspect used a tool to open the cash registers and stole money. An unknown suspect forced open the gate of the apartment building and opened a package, but the contents were not stolen. The victim exited her hotel room to use the bathroom. The hotel room door was not closed completely and an unknown suspect entered the hotel room and stole the victim s purse. An unknown suspect entered the business and stole a safe. It is unknown how the suspect gained entry into the business.

The victims returned home and found property stolen from the residence. The victims saw numerous suspects on video that gained access into their residence and stole the property. Two unknown suspects entered the business and stole property. It is unknown how the suspect gained entry into the business. An unknown suspect pried open the office door. It is unknown at time of report if any items had been stolen. An unknown suspect broke into the mailbox of the residence that contained the garage remotes to two neighboring residences. The suspect then opened the garages with the remotes and stole property from the vehicles parked inside. An unknown suspect reached inside the opening of the front door and activated the panic alarm. The front door automatically unlocked and the suspect entered the store and stole property. The employee refused to give the suspect any food. The suspect asked for coffee and the employee gave him a cup of coffee. The suspect then threw the coffee at the employee and fled the scene. Two unknown suspects set off the security alarm as they exited the store. An employee asked the suspects to step back into the store and one of the suspects sprayed her in the face with an unknown substance. The suspects then fled the scene. It is unknown if the suspects had stolen any merchandise. The victim was awoken by an unknown suspect punching him in the face. The suspect stated that the victim had stolen his bicycle. The victim was able to run away and the suspect fled the scene. The victim saw the two suspects fighting as the male suspect put the female suspect into a headlock. The victim went to check on the female suspect to see if he should call police. The male suspect pulled out brass knuckles and punched the victim in the face multiple times. The victim was able to throw the male suspect on the ground in self-defense. The female suspect got behind the victim and attacked him. An officer arrived and stopped the attack. Arrests made. The victim hired the suspect as a contractor to remodel her apartment. The victim and suspect got into a verbal argument. The suspect grabbed a plank of wood and struck the victim in the leg. The suspect then fled the scene. The suspect then reached into the tip jar. An employee struggled with the suspect over the tip jar. The suspect attempted to bite the employee, but the she let go of the tip jar to prevent being bit. The suspect then fled the scene with the tip jar. An unknown suspect approached the victim from behind and grabbed her wallet from her hand. The victim struggled with the suspect. The victim fell to the ground and the suspect was able to flee the scene with her wallet.

The suspects were confronted by security outside of the store. Security tried to recover the items, but one of the suspects punched her in the face multiple times. The suspects then fled the scene. The suspect entered the store and stole merchandise. The suspect was confronted by security outside the store. The suspect shoved security and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the suspect punched security in the face and bit his arm and ankle. Security was able to detain the suspect. Arrest made. An unknown suspect grabbed the victim s laundry cart that was in the hallway. The victim confronted the suspect and tried to pull the cart from the suspect. The suspect bit the victim in the arm. A second victim tried to detain the suspect, but the suspect was able to get away. An unknown suspect approached the victim and pointed a knife at the victim. The suspect demanded the victim s wallet and jewelry. Fearing for his safety, the victim gave the suspect money. A passerby approached and threatened to call the police. The suspect then fled the scene. Three unknown suspects entered the store and placed merchandise in their bags. An employee grabbed onto one of the bags and one of the suspects punched him in the face multiple times. The employee fell on the floor and the same suspect who punched him, kicked him in the face. The suspects then fled the scene. The suspect forcefully pulled the victim s cell phone from her hands which caused her to fall to the ground. A witness called the police and officers detained a suspect matching the description provided. The victim and witness positively identified the detained suspect as the suspect who stole the cell phone. Arrest made. An unknown suspect entered the store and appeared intoxicated. Security observed the suspect detach a price tag of an item and confronted him. The suspect was told to leave. The suspect removed a hammer from his backpack and held it over his shoulder. Security backed away and the suspect fled the scene. An unknown suspect approached the victim and struck him in the head multiple times. The victim fell to the ground. The suspect reached Into the victim s pocket and stole his wallet. The suspect then fled the scene. An unknown suspect approached the teller window and pointed a gun at the victim. The suspect demanded money. The victim pulled money from the teller drawer and gave it to the suspect. The suspect then fled the scene. The victim was walking down the BART stairs when an unknown suspect jumped up from behind the stairs and grabbed her purse. The victim struggled with the suspect and held onto her purse. The suspect then grabbed the victim s cell phone from her hand and fled the scene. The victim saw the unknown suspect harassing a group of people. The victim told the suspect to leave the group alone. The suspect placed his hands around the victim s neck and pinned him against the wall. Fearing for his safety, the victim pulled out his credit cards and threw them on the ground. The suspect picked up the credit cards and fled the scene. An unknown suspect entered the store and stole merchandise. Security attempted to grab the suspect outside of the store, but the suspect pushed security causing him to lose his grip. 8 Page 8 Incidents of Note Robbery, Residence, With Gun 5/14/18 2316 hrs 900 BLK of Larkin St On 05/14/18, uniformed officers on patrol were flagged down by a pedestrian and notified of a takeover robbery with a gun occurring. The officers responded to the location and set up a perimeter. An officer began to make entry, Suspect #1 pointed a firearm at the officers and claimed to be law enforcement. The suspect fled the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly after a firearm was recovered from his person. Officers set up a perimeter around the initial location and ordered potential suspects out of the building. A second suspect was located around the building he initially claimed to be homeless and just looking for a place to sleep. The officers learned that two suspects entered the residence and forced the victim to the ground using their firearms as they looked for money and narcotics. During the investigation, the officers determined that the second suspect was involved in the incident. A search of the residence was conducted and evidence was seized, including a second firearm. Both suspects were booked at County Jail. Shoplifting, Force Against Agent 5/20/18 1519 hrs 100 BLK of Powell St On 5/20/18, uniformed officers responded to a retail store regarding a theft. Officers made contact with Victim #2 who is a loss prevention agent for the store. Officers learned that the suspect hit and bit the victim after he attempted to detain her as she walked out of the store with stolen merchandise. A second suspect was able to get away from the victim during his struggle to detain suspect #1. Suspect #1 was booked at the Juvenile Justice Center. Burglary, Non-Residential, Unlawful Entry 5/27/18 1427 hrs 600 BLK of Geary St On 4/30/18, Victim #2 responded to Central Station to make a report regarding the theft of a bicycle from his store. The Victim stated a suspect entered the store and asked to test ride a bicycle. The suspect left his identification for the test ride but never returned with the bicycle. A crime bulletin was issued regarding the incident. On 5/27/18, uniformed officers observed the suspect and identified him as being the suspect in the crime bulletin. The suspect was arrested and booked at County Jail.

9 Page 9 Each month features one of its officers in an effort to learn more about the men and women who police our neighborhood. This month, we interviewed Officer Justin Leach, a 2-year member of. Officer Leach was born in Marin at Marin General Hospital. He graduated from Casa Grande High School in Petaluma and went on to attend college at University of New Mexico Highlands where he received a degree in Kinesiology. Officer Leach joined the San Francisco Police Department in September of 2013. After graduating from the Police Academy, he was assigned to Northern Station for field training. He was then assigned to Mission Station for his probation station. After probation, he was assigned to Central Station as his permanent station. Officer Leach is a patrol officer on the midnight shift. Officer Leach and his partner, Officer Anthony Srinivas, usually patrols the Geary Street area. Officer Leach is also a Field Training Officer. Officer Leach s favorite thing about the Central is the people he works with and the variety of calls and people in the district.

17 Page 17 Definition of Suspicious Activity Suspicious activity is any observed behavior that could indicate a crime-related incident has been committed, or about to be committed. Unusual items or situations: A vehicle is parked in an odd location, a package/luggage is unattended, a window/door is open that is usually closed, or other out-of-the-ordinary situations occur. Examples of Suspicious Activity: An individual peering into vehicles to locate any valuables left unattended. An individual trying door handles to vehicles, and/or residences to gain access to the vehicle and/ or residence. An individual checking front doors of residences to locate any unattended packages, or individuals following delivery trucks to see where the truck is dropping off packages.

18 Page 18 Definition of Community Policing Community policing, or community-oriented policing, is a strategy of policing that focuses on police building ties and working closely with members of the communities. Homeless Outreach and Outreach to Drug Users: Central Station officers coordinate with city agencies to provide outreach and assistance to rehabilitate those who are dependent on illegal drugs and outreach to homeless individuals to connect them with resources and support. Foot Patrols: Central Station have beat officers assigned to Union Square, Fisherman s Wharf, Chinatown, North Beach and Market/Drumm area. Monthly Police Community Relations Meetings: Community Meetings are held continuously. Officers also attend meetings with merchants groups, business groups, development authorities and others. Concerns are voiced and addressed through problem solving. Email Updates: Central Station sends out newsletter updates to residents in the District that alerts residents of crime trends, upcoming community events, crime prevention tips, and information on how to contact officers at the District Station.
