ITINERARY DAY 1: NAIROBI On arrival at Nairobi's international Airport you will be met and transferred on to your comfortable hotel. The rest of the day will then be free to relax and enjoy the city. DAY 2: NAIROBI - AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK From Nairobi Wilson you will catch the Safarilink flight down to the Amboseli Airstrip, landing mid-afternoon. Located at the foot of the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro, Satao Elerai is a lovely base from which to explore one of Kenya's most scenic, yet strangely under visited National Parks. The lodge is within a 5000 acre private reserve leased from the local Elerai Maasai community to protect the land from poaching and habitat infringement. The area is a critical wildlife corridor and therefore important to protect. Tonight you will enjoy a sundowner in the bush. (B,D) DAY 3: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK Spend today on a game walk on the conservancy, visiting the Elerai Masai community to understand their traditional way of life and enjoying a spectacular night game drive. Alternatively, go on safari in Amboseli National Park, famed for its abundant populations of elephants and birds, in search of game such as lion, buffalo, gazelle, cheetah, wildebeest, zebra and giraffe. (B,L,D) DAY 4: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK - SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE You will be transferred to your Safarilink flight up to Nairobi to connect with your flight to Samburu National Reserve. Arriving before midday, you will be met and transferred to the luxury Elephant Bedroom Camp, situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro River. Following a delicious lunch, you will have a chance to relax, before heading out later on an evening game drive. The perfect chance to orientate yourself to your surroundings, it will also whet your appetite for the adventures to come. (B,L,D) DAY 5: SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE Enjoy a traditional safari programme of morning and afternoon game drives through the scenic, game-rich wilderness of the Samburu National Reserve. Lion, leopard and elephant are amongst the animals often seen within the reserve as well as a variety of plains game including impala and zebra. For those so inclined additional activities such as visits to Samburu villages and guided bush walks can also be added for a locally payable fee. (B,L,D)
DAY 6: SAMBURU - MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE This morning you fly straight on to the famed landscapes of the Maasai Mara, surely one of Africa's most dramatic and spectacular wildlife areas. On arrival you will be driven on to camp, where a sumptuous lunch will be waiting, before a late afternoon game drive provides your first chance to encounter some of the big game for which this reserve is so well known. (B,L,D) DAY 7: MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE The Maasai Mara is home to some of the largest populations of big cats on the continent, as well as rhinos, hyenas, crocodiles and more than 470 species of birds. Guests staying at Karen Blixen Camp enjoy included safaris in the Mara North Conservancy. During the Great Migration season (typically between July and October) you will also be able to enjoy a day out to the main part of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. in search of the herds and the chance to witness a river crossing. (B,L,D) DAY 8: MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE Extra activities which can be enjoyed for an additional cost include visits to a traditional Maasai Manyatta, sundowner drinks trips and guided bush walks. Many visitors to the camp will also want to try one of the Mara's most iconic experiences - a sunrise hot air balloon trip followed by a Champagne breakfast in the bush. These must be pre-booked as spaces are very limited, especially during high season. ACCOMMODATION MAASAI MARA CONSERVANCIES KAREN BLIXEN CAMP Taking its name from the author of the iconic novel Out of Africa, Karen Blixen Camp offers guests a quintessentially romantic safari experience in the heart of one of Kenya s best big game viewing areas. Stylish and well-run, this is a superb choice for anyone looking to enjoy the majesty of safari. Although a relatively large camp with 22 tents, there is plenty of space between the tents and sufficient space in the main area to ensure guests never feel overrun by one another. Inside the tents are very comfortable with en-suite bathrooms boasting flush loos and hot water provided via solar heating. Although the bedroom areas are relatively small all of the rooms have large shaded verandas at the front with canvas safari chairs and a large sofa so there is plenty of space to relax within the privacy of your own room. The main area of the lodge houses the lounge, bar and dining area which has an open front to allow guests to gaze out into the bush. A sparkling swimming pool welcomes guests to cool off between game drives and there is a small wellness centre for those looking to be pampered. Game drives are the main activity on offer here with day and night drives in the Mara North Conservancy included, as well as full day trips to the Maasai Mara National Reserve for guests on stays of three night or more. Guided walks, cultural visits and hot air balloon trips can be booked on request. NAIROBI OLE-SERENI HOTEL Boasting an enviable location within a 20 minute drive of both Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the domestic Wilson Airport, Ole-Sereni is an ideal option for visitors looking for an upmarket base for their overnight stay in Nairobi without having to venture in to the city centre. The 134 rooms of varying grades at the hotel are all very well-appointed with en-suite bathrooms and have views out towards the city or over the Nairobi National Park. They all have mini-bars, flat screen TVs, personal safes, WiFi and 24 hour in-room dining is always very welcome with later arrivals. There are two restaurants at the hotel with The Big Five Restaurant offering more formal dining whilst the Waterhole Snack Bar is better for light bites and a great view out to the Nairobi National Park. There is also a pool bar so guests who do spend an afternoon here will have somewhere to relax in the sunshine and enjoy the spectacular view. Ole-Sereni is probably the most upmarket of Nairobi s airport hotels and whilst there are more luxurious options in the city centre and out in Karen, this is an excellent spot to spend the night where guests are well looked after and the food is especially good. ELEPHANT BEDROOM CAMP Occupying an idyllic location on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, Elephant Bedroom Camp is a simple yet stylish camp from which to explore the beautifully scenic and game-rich Samburu National Reserve. There are 12 spacious safari tents at the camp which have roll-up fronts and sides so guests can enjoy the wonderful views out across the river when relaxing during the day. The en-suite bathrooms have hot and cold running water, flush loos and full amenities are provided. The private decks are shaded from the elements and have outdoor tables and chairs as well as a private plunge pool which helps guests to escape from the heat of the day.
