PREPARATION We went out on a practice walk so that we could practice our map reading skills and walking. We planned our routes together and wrote the route cards together in numerous Explorer sessions.

TRAINING For our training we had to go on hikes to prepare us for the expedition this consisted of long walks, and map reading to practice the skills for us to do our DofE. On some nights we would have to plan the route of our walks according to specific points on the map, making sure that we would be walking for 3 hours, and making sure that we would be resting for 3 hours. For this we had to plan breaks into the walk and make sure that we would stop for an hour at lunch which was at a specific point on the map. Then we carried on walking and then we had a break.

PRACTICE EXPEDITION On the 17 th and 18 th of June our group went out on our practice expedition at Rivington like and on the first day we started walking at about 6:30pm and then it took us about 6 hours to get to the camp site. When we got to Bowley we set up our tents then we started getting the stoves out and cooked our meals and then we packed all the cooking stuff up and then we got ready for bed and slept. The next day we woke up at 5:30 and then we started to packed all of our of our kit away. We then we set off at 7:30 after the first group The second day of walking took us about 6 hours and then we finished at around 5 o clock and we went then our parents came to pick us up at around that time and then we got took home.

EXPEDITION DAY 1 The next day we got taken to the bottom of Rivington and briefed on what we had to do then we where told what we had to do. Both groups set off in different directions at 9:30am and then we were left on our own for the rest of the day. We made 1 mistake in the morning and we quickly corrected ourselves. Our mistake was that we went the wrong way however, we quickly corrected ourselves and got back on track. We had our lunch at 12:31pm and then we carried on going. We reached our end point of our expedition only making 1 mistake. When we got to the campsite we set up our tents and then cooked our tea then went to bed.

DAY 2 On this day we woke up at 7:30am and we had our breakfast and then we got dressed had a wash and then we started to put our tents away. After we got our stuff together we started to look at the map so that we didn t get the route mixed up however we had a slight detour but then we managed to back on route. We were walking for about 4 hours before we got to a specific point where we could sit down and have lunch (at point 13). We then kept walking for a number of hours and then we got near the end and had a 20 minute break. we also then carried on and then we got to the end near the canal and we finished and got picked up at botany bay by our parent. We then made our way back to the hut to put all our kit and tents away.
