ENGLISH (espanol mas abajo) Batopilas 4 Day Adventure Tour guided vehicle driven tour Day 1: Your adventure tour into the remote canyons today will begin from Creel at 7,500 feet with a tour around the Creel area to the valley's of the mushrooms, frogs and monks. Stopping off at Lake Arareko on the way out of town, and then you'll drive through the Cusarare Indian Ejido to visit Cusarare Mission. Afterwards, you'll start your descent going into Basihuare Canyon, Humira Canyon, Copper Canyon and ultimately to the old silver mining village of Batopilas at the bottom of Batopilas Canyon just 400 meters above sea level. We will of course make stops at wonderful overlooks en route for photos, and you have the choice to include an outdoor, stylish picnic lunch served with wine at mid-day during the booking process. *You must pay for your own hotel and meals during this 4 day tour as well as any entrance fees required to go through Raramuri Indian land. A variety of hotels at all budget levels are available in Batopilas, or as we highly recommend, you can include one of the hotels we work with, along with a beautiful picnic on the way down, and the Indian toll fees as an optional Add-On during the booking process. Day 2: Your first full day in Batopilas will show you the Lost Cathedral of Satevo, the Batopilas Museum and you can do one of two optional hikes in the area; One is along the river on a section of aqueduct, which is a section of the old Silver Trail. This hike is about 3kms and will take about an hour over fairly flat (small ups and downs), but uneven ground. The 2nd hiking option is to an old silver mine with views of Batopilas town from above. The trail takes you up above Batopilas, along the side and then back down again. This hike is about 3 hours total. *You must pay for your own hotel and meals during this 3 day tour as well as any entrance fees required to go through Raramuri Indian land. Day 3: Your second full day in Batopilas will allow you one of two canyon sightseeing options; Option one is for hikers and includes a box lunch. You will be driven by a 4x4 local vehicle up incredible canyon roads to an Indian village tucked away in the mountains. From there you hike up the mountain 1.5 hours to the overlook of two different canyons. Enjoy your box lunch with a magnificent display of canyon views (photo from overlook of this hike is shown below). Option two is for non-hikers and includes a picnic with table and chairs. You will be driven by a 4x4 local vehicle up a different canyon road to one of the highest points in the region to an incredible overlook of Batopilas Canyon. Enjoy your picnic lunch admiring Batopilas Canyon from the top. *You must pay for your own hotel and meals during this 3 day tour as well as any entrance fees required to go through Raramuri Indian land. Day 4: You'll stop off to see the ruins of Hacienda San Miguel before departing Batopilas this morning and will stop off to see anything you may have missed on the way down to Batopilas. Lunch is not included today, as you should arrive back in Creel in time for a late lunch. Your guide will suggest you purchase snacks if he still has much to show you on the return journey and thinks you may arrive later
than scheduled. We suggest you dress in layers as you will be traveling through 3 different climate zones; pine/oak forest, deciduous forest and subtropical. **Please be aware when considering a visit to Batopilas on your customized Copper Canyon itinerary that going to Batopilas is like stepping back in time and is a very rural and authentic part of the Copper Canyon and Mexico where few tourists visit. The drive to get to Batopilas is much easier now that the main road is completely paved, but still it is not for everyone and only those wishing to discover a relatively untouched part of Mexico on an Adventurous itinerary should consider including this particular 4 day tour that takes you through many canyons on steep, switchback canyon roads. One should be flexible in nature, have an adventurous spirit and above all, a desire to experience a journey off the beaten path. This tour is considered an Adventure Tour as you will drive on steep canyon roads and go off the normal tourist track; including driving on back roads that require 4x4 vehicles. We recommend you bring ear plugs with you as Batopilas can be noisy during holidays, festival days or weekends due to parties in the main plaza. We recommend you bring a flashlight or head lamp with you in case of electrical outage as this location is very rural.
