Setting the Scene he rural township of is situated at the southern entrance of the Blackall Range with the areas surrounding the township being rural residential and rural lands. his regional inter-urban break is a significant feature that frames the township and shapes its identity. Every place has a distinctive character and identity the things a place is known for - that is a combination of the physical environment and the community and cultural activity that takes place within that environment. benefits from a strong heritage character, village atmosphere and a generous proportion of open space in proximity to its centre. Mellum Creek In 7 the township was named Mellum Creek, with Mellum thought to be from an Aboriginal word meaning volcano.
