The Building Codes Division is gearing up to hire another inspector. County Building Official David Kloss has been serving as the Building Official for the City of Astoria as well since their official left in mid-june. The Planning Division has been getting assistance from CREST on several development permit applications to help ease the workload during the summer. In addition to the normal development permit activity, a new Tsunami Hazard Overlay, rezoning in the area near the Westport boat ramp, and an updated Transportation System Plan will all start the adoption process with a public hearing before the Planning Commission on the 18th. The next meeting of the county s ad hoc Wetlands Advisory Committee will be held on Aug. 24. Starting Sept. 1, the Planning Division will be open the same hours as the Building Codes Division 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in order to provide consistency and earlier opening, which is preferred by contractors. County Manager WELLNESS TEAM A total of $339.78 was raised in the Coin Drive and Raffle benefitting the Clatsop Community Action Regional Food Bank. The Public Health Department was the top office with $118.41 raised. Emergency Management Emergency Manager Tiffany Brown presented to a group of more than 200 special teams and medical personnel on Tuesday in preparation for Pathfinder Minutemen, a fullscale exercise at Camp Rilea where military teams from across the country showed up to assist the Oregon Disaster Medical Team. The scenario involved a tsunami devastating a small Oregon coastal community and Brown briefed exercise participants on what emergency management response capabilities/resources they could expect to find upon arriving on scene in any county along the Oregon coast. Public Health Public Health nurse Nicole Hill earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University recently.
