ULYSSES CLUB OF NEW ZEALAND ROTORUA BRANCH MARCH 2016 ISSUE 32 EDITOR SCOOP Hi Everyone Well what a month we have had with moving house and then heading off to Westport for the National AGM. There was a good number from Rotorua in attendance with some having an extended holiday as well. I think we all enjoyed ourselves very much at the AGM but we were very upset to hear of Peter & Lynne s nasty accident and resulting injuries. I am sure you are all up to date with this so will not go into detail. I would like to send our best wishes for a speedy recovery to them both. Feel better soon. Andrea CO ORDINATOR S COMMENTS With the accident I did not feel it necessary to see if Peter could impart some wisdom this month but Peter has sent the following message for us all. Hi everyone, Having just arrived by air ambulance (on Tuesday) after our mishap in the south island I am not quite ready yet to give a full report. The AGM rally in Westport was a great success. Lynne and I will licking our wounds in hospital and later at home and I am not sure if I can make it to the next Branch meeting. Some of you have already details of what happen and I will fill you in when I am up and about. Thanks to those who have offered help and support and assisted us to get back to Rotorua. Cheers Peter V ad.thompson@xtra.co.nz NEXT BRANCH MEETING SUNDAY 3 RD APRIL 2016 AT 7PM
NOAH THINGERTOO SAYS :- I hear the Westport AGM was a memorable weekend. All good except for the few offs. I hear the Taupo Coordinator got a bee in his bonnet, and tried to get it out without stopping his bike, and your own Lynne and Peter didn t get to enjoy Karamea before they had a major dismount. I do hear, though, that they may soon return to Rotorua, even though it may be some time before they join a ride. I also understand the new owner of Rodney s trike, tried to cross the Buller River on it, on the way to the AGM, then after rode back through the Buller Gorge at the blistering top pace of no more than 40 kph, holding up multiple traffic, but oblivious to it all. If you need to know the number of farm irrigation machines on the West Coast, speak to Jack B., I hear he counted them all. I am told that on the Sunday morning (after the dinner and function), Peggy O N backed her rental car over the huge urn containing a pot plant outside her unit! This was just after Flash saw on open door to a unit, walked in to surprise your ex-secretary and Granny B still in bed! I have seen photos of you all dressed as whitebait for the dinner function good enough to eat! The other day I saw the latest Ulysses magazine lying around. I thought, that s unusual! On opening, I found that there was no article about your branch activities whatsoever, so I could understand that the issue got disposed of pretty quickly with no local content. I can guess from this that Okataina registrations must already be full, good going, because that would be your last chance for promotion in a Branch article. I did see the excellent ad vert for Okataina though, good one!
WESTPORT AGM UPDATE From Hartley Westport AGM Weekend of the 18th to 20th March 2016 13 Rotorua members attended the AGM in Westport this year. Only Jack, Bruce and Christine travelled together while everyone else made their way there by themselves and arrived at different times. For a small group, the Buller branch hosted a very good AGM with a good number of Ulyssian s from around the country attending. The West Coast weather was fine as well with the only rain during the Saturday ride to Little Wanganui which is just before Karamea further up the coast. Others visited Cape Foulwind and the seal colony. Our motel was comfortable and close to town. Friday night's treat was whitebait fritters which was well received. The Saturday evening meal was good although the caterer had to make a dash to the local New World to get more ham. Unfortunately no one from Rotorua was lucky enough to win the bike raffle but we as a group did win the local raffle. Some fuel vouchers and a sleeping bag I believe. We all departed on Saturday with some heading straight home and others like myself continuing on for a bit of a tour of the South Island. A highlight of my trip was a visit to Christchurch. I lived there for a year over 30 years ago and was last in town for the Christchurch Ulysses AGM. The scale of destruction was sad to see particularly the Cathedral. I think they are close to making some decisions on what they are to do with it. The rebuild is progressing so I think the future for the city looks good. It was while in Christchurch that I got the bad news that Pete and Lynne had had an accident on the bike and were in hospital. As a motorcyclist either on 2 or 3 wheels it is always a concern when fellow club members are involved. I am sure all Rotorua members wish Lynne and Pete a speedy recovery. Hartley
