OCEAN PINES BOAT CLUB, INC. THE VOICE Website: oceanpinesboatclub.org August 2018 COMMODORE S CORNER Well, it happened again. The weather made us cancel the second raft-up. It seems we are following the same path as last year where we were only able to have one raft-up due to the weather. Hope it ends here. Each year we try to plan different activities from our regular events. Doris Lloyd has planned a trip to Lewes, DE to tour, the last lightship ever built and the Zwaanendale Museum. Joe DiMartino has planned a golf outing at Riddle Farms 9 hole course. He also is trying to plan a day of trap shooting and a BBQ. Here are three great events we can look forward to. If these events are not to your liking, give us an idea of what you would like. Your input is very important to us. You can call any member of the Board, including me. The phone numbers and e-mail addresses for all Board members are listed on the last page of this VOICE. ZWAANENDALE MUSEUM In Lewes, Delaware the Zwaanendael Museum was created to honor the 300th anniversary of Delaware's first European settlement, Zwaanendael, founded 1631. The museum models the former City Hall in Hoorn, the Netherlands. It has 17th century Dutch elements such as stepped facade gable, terra cotta roof tiles, carved stonework, and decorated shutters. The top of the building's front features a statue of David Pietersen de Vries, leader of the expedition that founded Swaanendale. Lewes was settled by the Dutch. Beautiful gardens!! OVERFALLS The last lightship ever built and only the second in the twentieth century. And guess what, it is in our own backyard, Lewes, DE. Ready for a fun and interesting day. Join us on August 27 th to tour the Zwaanendale Museum and OVERFALLS, both in Lewes. A private tour of the Zwaanendale Museum has been arranged for 10 a.m. After this we will proceed to OVERFALLS for a tour of this lightship at about 11 a.m. Then if you aren t too tired, have lunch with us at Gilligans Restaurant, also in Lewes.
